"Pada masa sekarang kendaraan merupakan sarana yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan manusia sehari-hari. Hal ini disebabkan adanya kebutuhan manusia untuk berpindah tempat ataupun memindahkan barang dari satu lempat ke tempat yang lain dengan lebih efektif dan efisien. Teknologi yang terus berkembang telah mendorong terciptanya kendaraan-kendaraan yang bertenaga besar dan berkecepatan tinggi jauh melebihi kemampuan manusia. Kecepatan yang tinggi serta tenaga yang besar inilah yang menjadi bahaya utama dan menjadikan berkendaraan merupakan kegiatan yang mengandung risiko kecelakaan cukup besar.Proyek Duri Area 11 merupakan proyek yang melibatkan operasi kendaraan bermotor antara lain sekitar 60 hingga 70 buah truk pengangkut tanah (dump truk) berkaitan dengan pekerjaan tanahnya. Operasi kendaraan ini telah menjadi perhatian yang sangat serius di lingkungan PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia karena tingkat kecelakaan kendaraan bermotor di proyek ini termasuk yang mencapai angka tertinggi dibandingkan dengan proyek-proyek sejenis disekitarnya.Berangkat dari permasalahan di atas dilakukan penelitian ini dengan tujuan mendapatkan gambaran mengenai besar peranan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kecelakaan kendaraan bermotor di proyek Duri Area 11 antara lain faktor pengalaman kerja, faktor penyumbang (contributing factor), faktor kelemahan sistem (sistem prosedur, sistem pelatihan, sistem manajemen, sistem pengarahan kerja, dll) dan faktor keadaan.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan disain cross sectional. Populasi yang digunakan adalah seluruh data kecelakaan kendaraan bermotor dump truk di proyek Duri Area II, tahun 2000 sampai dengan tahun 2002, Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis univariat, yakni analisis statistik deskriptif (meliputi distribusi frekuensi: sebaran, tendensi, dll). Analisa kualitatif dilakukan dengan cara analisis isi untuk mencoba memperjelas fenomena dari analisis univariat serla hasil wawancara yang dilakukan terhadap pihak yang berkompeten.Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya faktor-faktor yang menonjol peranannya dalam kecelakaan kendaraan bermotor di proyek Duri Area 11 dan tinjauan lebih lanjut terhadap faktor-faktor yang menonjol tersebut mengarah kepada 2 hal pokok yang perlu diperbaiki, yaitu perilaku pengemudi dan kelemahan sistem pengarahan kerja.Analysis of Factors Related to the Motor Vehicle Accident in Duri Area 11 Project, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, Year 2000-2002Currently the use of vehicle is becoming integrated with daily life activities of people. This situation is related to the need of people to have reliable transportation, which is more effective and efficient for moving personnel and object or goods or other else from one place to another. Technology development has invented vehicles, which having great power and capable to move faster. Consequently, these great power and speed arc the major hazard that may lead to accident during its operation.

Duri Area 11 Project uses many motor vehicles about 60 to 70 dump trucks to support operation activities. PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia has seriously give pay attention to Duri Area 11 project activities due to the rate of accident very high above the average rate of other similar project operation surrounding the area.

Starting from the above problem, this research is carried out to achieve the objective to have a view regarding the contribution of each factors related to the accident of motor vehicle in Duri Area 11 Project, e.g. experience, immediate cause, condition and lack of system such as procedures, training, management, work direction, etc.

The Research is performed using quantitative and qualitative approaches and the design is cross sectional. Population sample is taken from all data of dump truck accident in Duri Area 11 Project from the year 2000 to 2002. The quantitative analysis is performed using descriptive statistic analysis such as frequency distribution, tendency distribution, etc. Qualitative analysis is carried out to clarify the phenomena resulted from quantitative analysis and the result of depth interview with the competent person in the project.

The conclusion of this research shown that the prominent factors are strongly contributed in motor vehicle accident in Duri Area 11 Project. Further clarification concluded that 2 major factors, drive behavior and lack of work direction should be improved."
