"Salah satu metode promosi yang terkenal yang dilakukan oleh para pramuniaga di Indonesia adalah metode sapa. Ketika para pramuniaga melakukannya, mereka mengucapkan beberapa kata mengundang secara agak keras untuk menarik pelanggan baik untuk melihat produk mereka atau untuk datang ke toko mereka. Kata-kata penyambut yang khas adalah "Silakan!" dan "Boleh!". Makalah ini menganalisis ekspresi yang digunakan oleh para pramuniaga kafe XXI terutama pada kekuatan metode sapa pelanggan dan keberadaan fungsi direktif dalam kata-kata dan dampaknya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan bantuan dari para mahasiswa Departemen Inggris Universitas Indonesia. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa bentuk-bentuk direktif dari metode sapa adalah deklaratif yang dimodifikasi, dan hasil survei adalah bahwa meskipun sebagian besar responden tidak merasa terganggu atau terganggu oleh penyapaan tersebut, mereka juga tidak merasa disambut dan cenderung mengabaikannya.

One of the famous promotion methods by salesclerks among Indonesian is the greeting method When salesclerks do it they chant some inviting words loud to attracts customers either to look at their products or to come into their shops The typical greeted words are Silakan and Boleh This paper analyzes these expressions used by XXI cafe salesclerks on the power of customer greetings and the existence of directive function within the words and the impact of them The research of the greetings 39 impact was conducted with the help of English Department students of Universitas Indonesia The study concludes that the directive forms of the greeting is the modified declarative and the result of the survey is that although most of respondents do not feel disturbed or annoyed by the greeting they also do not feel welcomed and tend to ignore it ."

"Brown dan Levinson 1983, 1987 mengemukakan bahwa semakin tidak langsung penutur bertutur, maka semakin santunlah penutur tersebut. Namun, pola kesantunan ini telah diuji kembali Gao, 1999; Rue Zhang, 2008. Pernyataan Brown dan Levinson ini dianggap belum tentu berlaku pada berbagai bahasa dan hanya merepresentasikan bahasa barat.Artikel ini akan mengamati strategi meminta sehari-hari yang muncul dalam cerpen berbahasa Mandarin. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa bentuk mood derivable merupakan strategi yang paling banyak digunakan.Terkait dengan keterkaitan antara ketidaklangsungan dengan kesantunan, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun mood derivable muncul dalam situasi kedudukan petutur yang lebih tinggi dari penutur. Namun, tuturan tersebut masih tergolong santun karena penggunaan kata sapaan address term dan kata qing yang berarti 'tolong'. Secara umum, hasil penelitian ini mendukung pernyataan Gao 1996 bahwa tuturan langsung masih relevan dengan kesantunan dalam masyarakat Cina.

According to Brown and Levinson 1983, 1987 , the more indirect a speaker speaks, the more polite that speaker becomes. However, this model of politeness had been reexamined Gao, 1999; Rue Zhang, 2008 . Brown and Levinson rsquo;s remarks seem not necessarily applicable to all languages and only represent western languages.This current study will observe the strategies of daily requests occurred in Chinese short fictions. This study finds mood derivable is the most dominant strategy utilised by the speakers.With regards to the relationship between indirectness and politeness, this study proves that although a high-power speaker utilises mood derivable to ask a low-power addressee to do something, the request is still considered polite because of the usage of address term and the word ldquo; rdquo; which means 'please'. Overall, the finding supports Gao 1996 that explains direct request is still considered polite within Chinese society."
