"Di tengah pertumbuhan kota yang semakin menghimpit, masyarakat kota tetap membutuhkan ruang terbuka dimana mereka dapat beraktifitas dengan bebas. Ruang terbuka tersebut dapat diibaratkan sebagai living room sebuah rumah karena memiliki peranan yang sama. Salah satu jenis living roomkota yang dimiliki oleh negara kepulauan seperti Indonesia ialah tepian pantai yang juga dapat disebut sebagai waterfront. Dengan adanya perairan, kawasan ini dapat menjadi ruang beraktifitas yang secara alami mendekat manusia dengan alam sehingga terjadi interaksi yang penting bagi kehidupan manusia. Pada skripsi ini akan dibahas mengenai bagaimana mengembangkan waterfront yang diibaratkan sebagai living room pada sebuah kota terkait dengan keunikan yang dimiliki oleh waterfront.

In the midst of density of a growing city, open space is a necessity for urban society. A place where people can do activities loosely. Open space could be imagined as a living room inside one house, both open space and living room have the same function. One type of city's living room provided by archipelago like Indonesia is the sea shore, or widely known as waterfront. Thanks to the existence of water, this area becomes the centre of activity which stimulates people to attach more to nature and creates important interactions between them. This thesis discusses how to develop the waterfront as a living room for a city, focusing on the uniqueness of waterfront itself."

"ABSTRAKKehidupan manusia sehari-hari berhubungan erat dengan elemen air. Air berfungsi untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan hidup dan kawasan aktivitas publik. Setiap kota yang berbatasan dengan air memiliki kawasan yang biasa disebut dengan waterfront. Waterfront terdapat di berbagai sudut kota dengan bentuk dan fungsi yang berbeda. Dalam skripsi ini, saya mencoba menguraikan dan memahami lebih dalam mengenai arti, bentuk dan fungsi kawasan waterfront. Saya akan melakukan pembahasan mengenai bagaimana karakter, potensi, dan permasalahan waterfront, khususnya pada area laut dan kanal, dapat berpengaruh besar terhadap perkembangan kota dalam bentuk privatisasi kawasan maupun identitas kota.

ABSTRACTDaily human life are closely related to water element. Water is used to meet the needs of life and area for public activities. Every city that borders the water has an area commonly called the waterfront. Waterfront areas are located in every corner of the city with different forms and functions. In this thesis, I tried to enlighten and understand more about the meaning, form, and function of waterfront. I will do the study on how the character, potential, and problems of waterfront, particularly in the area of the sea and canal, can greatly affect the development of the city in the form of privatization of area and city identity."
