"Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjelaskan dimensi poskolonial dalam novel The House of Seven Gables. Dengan menggunakan teori poskolonial Gandhi dan konsep tempat dan ruang Giles dan Middleton, penulis menunjukkan ambivalensi pada perilaku karakter-karakter di dalam novel tersebut. Penulis juga menggunakan konsep exile (pengasingan) oleh Said untuk menunjukkan tanda-tanda perilaku poskolonial pada interaksi antar karakter di dalam novel sebagai indikasi ketidakmampuan koloni untuk betul-betul bebas dari pengaruh penjajah.

This research is conducted in order to explain the postcolonial dimension of the novel The House of the Seven Gables. Using Gandhi's postcolonial theory and Giles & Middleton's space and place concept, I enunciate the ambivalence found in some of the characters conducts inside the book. I also use Said?s concept of exile to shows the subtle signs or symptoms of postcolonial behaviour shown in the characters' interaction in the novel as an indication of the colonies' inability to be free from the colonizers' influence completely."
