"A House in the Sun describes experiments in solar house heating in American architectural, engineering, political, economic, and corporate contexts from the beginning of World War II until the late 1950s. Solar houses were built across the United States, and also proposed for sites in India, South Africa, and Morocco. These experiments developed parallel to transformations in the discussion of modern architecture, relying on new materials and design ideas for both energy efficiency and claims to cultural relevance. These experiments also developed as part of a wider analysis of the globe as an interconnected geophysical system. Perceived resource limitations in the immediate postwar period led to new understandings of the relationships among energy, technology, and economy. The solar house, both as a charged object in the milieu of suburban expansion, and as a means to raise the standard of living in developing economies, became an important site for social, technological, and design experimentation. A House in the Sun argues that this mid-century solar discourse was one of the first episodes in which resource limitations were seen as an opportunity for design to attain new relevance. Furthermore, discussion of and experimentation in solar technology established both an intellectual framework and a funding structure for the articulation of global environmental concerns in subsequent decades. In presenting evidence of resource tensions at the beginning of the Cold War, the book presents a new perspective on the histories of architecture, technology, and environmentalism, one more fully engaged with geopolitical and geophysical pressures."

This study was performed to characterize in-house phantoms on computed radiography (CR) systems in terms of image quality parameters that represented coefficient of linearity (CL), coefficient of variation (CV), and modulation transfer function (MTF). This study used three different phantoms as a comparison, combined with abdominal anatomy representation. The CL is a value that shows the changes of contrast linearity to the changes of object depth, while the coefficient of variation shows the value of contrast consistency to changes of object size.
MTF showed the spatial resolution that evaluated using the slanted edge method using copper slabs in the in-house phantoms. The results obtained from this study are that in-house phantom 1.0 is recommended to be used at 75 kV with filters 1 mm Al + 0.1 mm Cu for contrast linearity, 65 kV with 2 mmAl filters for contrast consistency and 70 kV with 1 mm Al filter + 0.2 mm Cu for MTF. As for the in-house phantom 2.0 the recommended conditions are 60 kV value with a filter of 1 mm Al + 0.2 mm Cu for contrast linearity and 60 kV with a 0 mm Al filter for contrast consistency.

Rumah Ulu is a traditional house of people who live in South Sumatra, one of them in Ogan, which is rumah panggung with people who like to socialize with their neighboor and families. When people move from Ogan to the city, they will build a house that still follows the Rumah Ulu. There are modern house inspired from a traditional house. The house are translated to fit the needs and circumstances in place so it has a uniqueness. One of them is to apply two functions of Ulu house room in a modern house room. Translations is a process of transferring the concept from one region to another. From that process not only changes are found, but it will find strong things that require modern house to adapt from traditional house. This thesis will discuss the change of a house that has through a process of translation by comparing the Rumah Ulu with a house that has through a translation process.
