"Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika untuk menganalisis teks berita konflik Israel-Palestina. Teori semiotika Barthes mengenai konotasi digunakan untuk menggali makna konotasi yang terdapat dalam sejumlah kata atau ungkapan yang menjadi tanda dalam teks berita. Korpus bersumber dari teks berita Kompas pada momentum pengajuan proposal Palestina untuk menjadi anggota PBB, yaitu September-Oktober 2011. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa konotasi sangat berperan dalam menggambarkan tanda yang sesuai dengan apa yang sebenarnya ingin diberitakan media Kompas. Hasil analisis ini juga membentuk makna konotasi yang mengungkap sudut pandang Kompas tentang Palestina, Israel, dan reaksi negaranegara di dunia selama momen tersebut.

This research uses qualitative method with semiotic approach to analyze the news text of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The semiotic theory of Barthes about connotations is used to find the meanings of the words or phrases that acted as sign in the news text. Corpus is taken from Kompas‟s news text at the moment of submission of Palestinian proposal for UN membership, during September-October 2011.

The results of the research analysis show that the connotation is crucial in describing the sign that correspond to what Kompas really want reported. The results of the research analysis also find the connotation meaning which reveal a perspective of Kompas on the Palestinian, Israel, and the reaction of countries in the world during this moment."
