"o the colonized, the term 'research' is conflated with European colonialism; the ways in which academic research has been implicated in the throes of imperialism remains a painful memory. This essential volume explores intersections of imperialism and research - specifically, the ways in which imperialism is embedded in disciplines of knowledge and tradition as 'regimes of truth.' Concepts such as 'discovery' and 'claiming' are discussed and an argument presented that the decolonization of research methods will help to reclaim control over indigenous ways of knowing and being.
Now in its eagerly awaited second edition, this bestselling book has been substantially revised, with new case-studies and examples and important additions on new indigenous literature, the role of research in indigenous struggles for social justice, which brings this essential volume urgently up-to-date."--Pub. desc.

"In this paper, I offer a reflection on two cases to assess in preliminary manner the viability of an indigenous methodology for Southeast Asian Studies. The first is Kaupapa Maori Research (hereafter KM) as spelt out in the much talked about book by Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous People (Smith 1999). The second case is Sikolohiyang Pilipino (Filipino Psychology, SP), which began to take shape in the late 1960’s and 1970’s in the Philippines. Arguably these are among the most developed efforts at decolonization or indigenization of methodology. I intend to use these cases to explore the factors that made possible the flourishing and stagnating of indigenous methodologies. I shall argue that the broader context of knowledge consumption, not epistemological and methodological concerns, poses the most formidable challenge to the
viability of indigenization efforts."

"This is an edited volume with contributions by leading scholars on the central epistemological, theoretical, political, and pedagogical questions and debates that constitute the discipline of Indigenous Studies. The volume emerges from a 2012 symposium hosted by the Indigenous Studies Research Network at Queensland University of Technology. The volume is organized into three sections: the first section includes essays that interrogate the embeddedness of Indigenous studies within academic institutions; the essays in the second section explore the epistemology of the discipline; and the third section's essays are devoted to understanding the locales of critical inquiry and practice. Moreton- Robinson's introductory essay provides a brief history of the discipline"

"ABSTRACT
This study employs CDA to investigate discrimination againnst Taiwans indigenous peoples in a one minute long scene from the film, David Loman 2. A description of the scene is firstly provided to allow a contextualization in the debate about ideological construction of racism in the film. This is followed by an elaboration of the principles of CDA which allows readers to follow analytical analysis of discriminatory aspects of the scene. Finally, narrative data gathered from interviews with key stakeholders are presented as a supplement to the in depth discourses analysis of specific utterances by the film director, made in the aftermath of the media incident regarding allegations of racism. The study concludes with a dscussion about possible solutions to reduce the recurrence of stigma and predjudice againts Taiwan indigenous peoples in media."

"Challenging the assumptions of 'mainstream' International Political Economy (IPE), this Handbook demonstrates the considerable value of critical theory to the discipline through a series of cutting-edge studies. The field of IPE has always had an inbuilt vocation within Historical Materialism, with an explicit ambition to make sense, from a critical standpoint, of the capitalist mode of production as a world system of sometimes paradoxically and sometimes smoothly overlapping states and markets. Having spearheaded the growth of a vigorous critical scholarship in the 1960s and 1970s, however, Marxism and neo-Gramscian approaches became increasingly marginalized over the course of the 1980s. The authors respond to the exposure of limits to mainstream contemporary scholarship in the wake of the onset of the Global Financial Crisis, and provide a comprehensive overview of the field of Critical International Political Economy. Problematizing socioeconomic and political structures, and considering these as potentially transitory and subject to change, the contributors aim not simply to understand a world of conflict, but furthermore to uncover the ways in which purportedly objective analyses reflect the interests of those in positions of privilege and power."
