"The last three decades have revealed substantial change in
population :nobility in Indonesia. In the l9S0s population :nobility was
greatly determined by the government rather than the individuals
concerned. This is called a ''direct policy' implemented through
transmigration program. The mobility pattern was dominated by out-
migration flow from Java to outside Java. However, in the next two decades l990-2000} the migration pattern was determined by the migrants
themselves, and is called 'indirect policy'. The pattern shows a polarization
of mobility which indicates migrant flows from outside Java into Java as
well as into other centers of growth in indonesia. This paper tests spatial
interaction model which is well known in geography. The model is derived
from Newton's gravity model and was developed by Ravenstein and Reilly
(1931). The result of statistical test shows that the flows of migration have
positive relationship to the size of population in each region of origin and
destination, and have negative relationship to the distance between origin
and destination. The statistical model developed in this paper also rises the
origin and destination region as an explanatory variable.

"In the fast developing economies of Asia migration has come to
play an important role. However. It has also remained opposed by public
opinion and workers organizations, who consider migrants detrimental to
the employment opportunities and working conditions of local workers.
The crisis, which sent some Asian economies into recession and caused
widespread social costs, had a specific impact on migration. A large
number of migrants were repatriated, others had la endure wage curs and
worsening of labor conditions. This paper argues that because of the
structural role that migration has acquired in Asian economies, it should be
part of the workers organization concerns and of a regional dialogue by
migrants to ensure that it is orderly and protected.

"In the last two decades, Indonesia has witnessed a surplus growth in the young and educated labor force. A significant proportion of educated people tend to move to other regions in search of jobs. Data from the 1995 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS) clearly documented this phenomenon and that many people who migrated belong to younger age groups. The improvements in socioeconomic development across various regions have exerted a tremendous impact on the flow of people as well as gonads across the regional and ethics boundaries within Indonesia. This paper mainly focuses on the region-to-region migration in Indonesia and the influence of major determinants specifically education and employment. For the analysis, logistic regression models are confined to explain the differentials in migration by selected explanatory variables. "

"Over the last two decades there have been numerous profound changes in UK society which have had an impact on the scale, geographies, meaning and experiences of internal migration. Providing a critical appraisal of migration scholarship from the perspective of Geography, reviewing theory, substantive foci and method, this book demonstrates how sub-national migration in the UK gives rise to and reflects new patterns of population, housing, economies and cultures. Each chapter is written by a Population Geographer together with a scholar representing another Human Geography sub-discipline thus.

"The chapters show that people?s transnational linkages and migration across national boundaries entail manifold political, economic, social, cultural and educational implications. Although political-social-economic-educational transformations fostered by migrant transnationalism constitute the main topic of the book, the starting assumption is that the large-scale institutional and actor-centred patterns of transformation come about through a constellation of parallel processes."

Shock BI Rate.

This study explains how the Shock BI Rate influences the return and volatility
of banking stocks in Indonesia Stock Exchange after tested using OLS
(Ordinary Least Squares) and GARCH (Generalized Autoregressive
Conditional Heteroscedasticity) showed that Shock BI Rate significantly
influenced the return and volatility of very large capitalization banking stocks.
Furthermore, the results of this research can be used as a guide for individual
investors and portfolio managers to determine the right time in taking a

"This article provides a description of Bugis and intra-island migration, analyzing the pattern of migration when Bugis settlers move from their home villages of Bone to the new frontier area of Baras in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. I argue that unlike migrants in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and their present-day con- temporaries, Bugis in Baras are permanent migrants referred to as those who have mallékké dapûrêng (“moved the kitchen out,” in their language). This ethnographic study in Baras presents an alternative interpretation of migration patterns among the Bugis. The findings of this study indicate that farmers are the main participants in this permanent migration. Bugis in Baras commit to mallékké dapûrêng because of their traditional value of siri’ (self-esteem and honor), further influenced by environmental, economic, social, and political factors."
