"Perkembangan Depok diikuti dengan inkorporasi Jakarta terhadap Depok, telah memberikan kesempatan terbuka bagi anak muda untuk bekerja, terutama dalam sektor jasa. Kesempatan bekerja ini tidak hanya terbuka untuk anak laki-laki saja namun juga terbuka untuk anak perempuan. Meskipun Depok mengalami perkembangan, nilai-nilai tradisional mengenai peran perempuan masih dipahami oleh sebagian masyarakat, contohnya nilai-nilai yang menyatakan bahwa anak perempuan tidak harus bekerja. Skripsi ini kemudian berfokus pada peristiwa mengenai anak perempuan akhirnya memilih untuk bekerja yang dipengaruhi oleh pemahaman dan pemaknaan mereka terhadap bekerja itu sendiri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan konsep rite of passage sebagai kerangka analisis. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan melakukan observasi dan wawancara tak terstruktur terhadap anak perempuan muda bekerja, yang tinggal dan besar di Depok, Jawa Barat.

The accelerated development of Depok, coinciding with the city’s rapid economy incorporation into the capital city Jakarta, has opened the opportunity for youth to work, especially in the service sectors. The opportunity is not only open for young men but also open for young women. Although under the development, Depok has traditional values that still understood by most people about roles for women, for example the values of stating women that they don't need to work. This thesis is focused on young women who have chosen to work influenced by their knowledge about what work means for them. This thesis utilizes uses qualitative methods with ‘right of passage’ as the key analytical concept. Data has been collected through observation and unstructured interviews with young women workers, who grew up and reside/live in Depok, West Java."
