"A House in the Sun describes experiments in solar house heating in American architectural, engineering, political, economic, and corporate contexts from the beginning of World War II until the late 1950s. Solar houses were built across the United States, and also proposed for sites in India, South Africa, and Morocco. These experiments developed parallel to transformations in the discussion of modern architecture, relying on new materials and design ideas for both energy efficiency and claims to cultural relevance. These experiments also developed as part of a wider analysis of the globe as an interconnected geophysical system. Perceived resource limitations in the immediate postwar period led to new understandings of the relationships among energy, technology, and economy. The solar house, both as a charged object in the milieu of suburban expansion, and as a means to raise the standard of living in developing economies, became an important site for social, technological, and design experimentation. A House in the Sun argues that this mid-century solar discourse was one of the first episodes in which resource limitations were seen as an opportunity for design to attain new relevance. Furthermore, discussion of and experimentation in solar technology established both an intellectual framework and a funding structure for the articulation of global environmental concerns in subsequent decades. In presenting evidence of resource tensions at the beginning of the Cold War, the book presents a new perspective on the histories of architecture, technology, and environmentalism, one more fully engaged with geopolitical and geophysical pressures."

"Salah satu permasalahan yang terdapat dalam pemenuhan energi adalah masih banyaknya daerah yang belum teraliri listrik. Padahal listrik adalah faktor penting untuk mengembangkan potensi ekonomi suatu daerah. Indonesia sebagai negara tropis memiliki banyak potensi energi terbarukan, salah satunya adalah tenaga surya. Dengan penggunaan PLTS sebagai sumber daya listrik, permukiman nelayan di Desa Arungkeke dapat menikmati energi listrik secara mandiri (off grid) tanpa memerlukan bahan bakar dan mesin pembangkit. Pemenuhan kebutuhan energi dipasok oleh PLTS dengan spesifikasi kapasitas 160 Wp sebanyak 46 unit dengan harga Rp 125.120.000,00, baterai tipe 1500 Ah dengan jumlah kebutuhan 2 buah baterai dengan total harga Rp 19.576.000,00, serta konverter seharga Rp 3.334.000,00. Sehingga total biaya yang dibutuhkan sebesar Rp 148.030.000,00.

One of the main problem in energy demand fulfillment is still no electricity in many regions. Whereas, electricity is the main factor for developing a city, or in this case is economy sector. Indonesia is a tropical country which has may potentional renewable energy, for example is solar power. By using solar power plant as power generation can make people in Arungkeke?s Village have access to electricity without fuel engine and off grid. The electricity will be provided by solar power plant with the specifications are: 46 units 160 Wp solar panel Rp 125.120.000,00, 2 batteries 1500 Ah Rp 19.576.000,00, and converter Rp 3.334.000,00. So the total amount is Rp 148.030.000,00."

"Saat ini, banyak aplikasi teknologi berbasis sumber energi alam dan ramah lingkungan. Bagaimanapun, kekurangan yang sering ditemukan pada sumber energi alam adalah intensitasnya yang tidak menentu. Hal ini juga berlaku pada tenaga matahari pada panel surya, dimana intensitas cahaya yang masuk tidak selalu sama di setiap waktu. Intensitas cahaya dapat dipengaruhi berbagai faktor seperti cuaca yang mendung. Perubahan intensitas cahaya ini berujung pada perubahan besar tegangan yang dihasilkan panel surya. Dengan buck-boost converter, nilai tegangan keluaran dapat diatur menjadi lebih besar atau lebih kecil, menjadi nilai tegangan yang diinginkan. Nilai tegangan yang dihasilkan diatur oleh pemrograman mikrokontroler, yang mengatur lebar pulsa pada PWM. Laporan skripsi ini membahas perancangan buck-boost converter untuk panel surya, dengan mengambil studi kasus di Gedung Pusat Inovasi LIPI di Cibinong, Bogor. Regulasi tegangan keluaran yang dihasilkan merupakan faktor utama dari analisa keberhasilan perancangan buck-boost converter, dengan persentase efisiensi berkisar dari 90 hingga 99%.

Currently, there are plenty of technological applications that utilizes a natural, environmental-friendly source of energy. However, a disadvantage often found in natural energy sources is that the intensity produced is uncertain. This occurance is also found in solar panels, wherein the light intensity that enters is not always equal. Light intensity may be affected by various factors such as ones on gloomy or sunny weathers. This irregularity on light intensity leads to deviation of voltage output produced by the solar panel. With the use of buck-boost converters, the amount of output voltage may be set to higher or lower than the input voltage, enabling us to maintain the desired output voltage. The amount of output voltage produced is controlled by a microcontroller program which regulates pulse widths produced by PWM signals. This final project report discusses about the designing of a buck-boost converter for solar panels, with a case study in Gedung Pusat Inovasi LIPI, Cibinong, Bogor. The regulation of output voltage is the main aim in analizing the success of the design created, with an efficiency of 90 to 99%.

Penelitian ini menganalisis tentang perencanaan energi dengan
memproyeksikan kebutuhan energi berupa penyediaan dan permintaan energi
daerah serta optimalisasi energi baru dan terbarukan di daerah tersebut melalui
peranan pemerintah setempat. Kegiatan industri telah mendorong pertumbuhan
ekonomi bagi sebagian masyarakat. Namun demikian ada harga yang harus
dibayar yaitu berupa menurunnya kualitas lingkungan dan meningkatnya
kebutuhan akan sumberdaya. LEAP menyediakan suatu program untuk menyusun
data, menciptakan keseimbangan energi, memproyeksi suatu skenario kebutuhan
dan penyediaan, dan mengevaluasi kebijakan alternatif. Scenario planning dipakai
untuk memperbaiki atau mempertajam keputusan yang harus diambil saat ini yang
berdampak di masa depan. Sehingga hasil proyeksi tersebut dapat digunakan
sebagai referensi baru dalam perencanaan pemilihan teknologi terimplementasi
yang tepat terutama dalam penghematan energi dan pengurangan emisi industri di
wilayah Kabupaten Tangerang

ABSTRACT
This study analyzing the energy planning by projecting energy needed in
the form of region supply and demand also optimalization of new and renewable
energy in that area through local goverment roles. Industrial activity has driven
economic growth for some people. However, there is a price to be paid in the
form of environmental degradation and increasing the resource requirements and
CO2 emissions. LEAP (Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning system) provide
a program to compile the data, creating a balance of energy, projecting a
scenario and supply needs, and evaluate policy alternatives. Scenario planning is
used to improve or refine the decisions to be taken at this time that would be
impact in the future. So that the projection can be used as a new reference in
planning appropriate technology implemented selection mainly in energy saving
and emission reduction in the industrial area of Tangerang regency."
