"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Alur Distribusi Batik Tulis di Yogyakarta Tahun 2009. Hal yang diteliti adalah bagaimana alur distribusi produk batik tulis berdasarkan lokasi industrinya. Variabel yang digunakan adalah nilai produksi, nilai investasi, volume produksi, aksesibilitas dan penggunaan tanah dengan jenis usaha, jenis industri, bahan baku, dan pola motif sebagai data dukungan. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah metode deskripstif komparatif dengan pendekatan keruangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa industri batik tulis di Kota Yogyakarta saluran distribusi yang ada adalah produsen - konsumen, produsen - pengecer - konsumen, dan produsen - pedagang besar - pengecer - konsumen. Hasil pembahasan menunjukan produsen - konsumen adalah distribusi yang paling dominan dimana didukung oleh lokasi industrinya di penggunaan tanah pariwisata dan jaringan jalan lokal yang mudah diakses.

The purpose of this research is to fine what types of distribution methods that are used in the supply chain for traditional (handmade) batik industries, based on the location of the industry. Variables used in this study consist of production value, accessesbility, and landuse with industry size, firm type, raws materials, and motif patterns as supporting data. The research is analysed with the decriptive comparative method and spatial approach. Results imply that traditional batik in the city of Yogyakarta is dominated by industries where as manufatures act as sellers due to most of them are located on tourism land use and have easy access to consumers."

"ABSTRAK
Batik Indonesia secara resmi diakui oleh United Nations Educational, Scientific,
and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) pada tahun 2009 dan masuk dalam daftar
representatif sebagai Budaya Tak Benda Warisan Manusia. Faktanya, industri kerajinan
batik di Indonesia telah tumbuh dan berkembang sejak berabad-abad yang lalu.
Saat ini, pembinaan pada Pengrajin Batik merupakan salah satu program kerja
Dinas Perindustrian, Perdagangan, Koperasi, dan Usaha Kecil Menengah Provinsi DIY
Seksi UKM dan termasuk dalam kategori kegiatan informal. Namun ironisnya hingga
saat ini belum semua usaha-usaha ekonomi informal terjangkau oleh program-program
pembinaan dan perlindungan yang berkesinambungan.
Pengrajin Batik Tulis X merupakan salah satu UKM yang berada dibawah
binaan Dinas Perindustrian, Perdagangan, Koperasi, dan UKM Provinsi D.I
Yogyakarta. Berdasarkan pengamatan awal yang dilakukan pada Pengrajin Batik
Tulis X, di wilayah Bantul, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta pada bulan Oktober
2011, Peneliti mendapati kondisi pembatik tulis melakukan pekerjaan membatik
dalam posisi duduk dalam durasi kerja yang panjang, ± 6-8 jam per hari. Namun
ironisnya, ruang dan peralatan kerja (kursi, gawangan dan posisi kompor) yang
dipergunakan belum ergonomis yaitu belum adanya kesesuaian dengan
antropometri tubuh orang Indonesia yang akhirnya mengharuskan pembatik
bekerja dalam postur janggal. Dalam kurun waktu yang panjang hal ini dapat
berakibat munculnya penyakit akibat kerja seperti cedera otot.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan perancangan ulang terhadap
ruang dan peralatan kerja bagi pembatik tulis sehingga dapat meminimalisir
kemungkinan risiko-risiko kesehatan yang mungkin muncul pada kemudian hari
dengan berpedoman pada penerapan dimensi-dimensi tubuh antropometri orang
Indonesia.

Abstract
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
officially recognized Batik Indonesia in 2009, and registered under culture themes of
Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Nevertheless, batik craft industry have grown
and evolved since hundred years ago.
Furthermore, one of work program of Cooperation Trade Industry and Small
Medium Business Unit in Provincial Jogjakarta under Small Medium Business Section is
to coach small and medium business of batik crafter, thus, it is categorized as informal
activity. Unluckily, this informal activity which related to economic empowerment has
not been covered by sustainable coaching and protecting program from local government.
Hand-drawn Batik Craft Industry X is one of small medium business activiy
under supervision of Cooperation Trade Industry and Small Medium Business Unit
Provincial Jogjakarta. Based on preliminary observation Hand-drawn Batik Crafter
Industry X in District of Bantul under Provincial Jogjakarta in October 2011, researcher
captured the hand-drawn batik crafter while they worked, seating for long period 6-8
hours a day. In addition, work space and work tools used (work chair, gawangan and
stove) are not in ergonomic condition, means that the work station and work tools are not
suitable for body anthropometry of Indonesian people; consequently the hand-drawn
batik crafter works in awkward posture. As a result of current working condition, it might
significantly effect to hand-drawn batik crafter such as muscle injury.
This research is aim to redesign of work station and tools by using ergonomic
approach for hand-drawn batik crafter, so that the health effect could be minimized in the
long term period; at once, work station and work tools should be adjusted with dimension
of body anthropometry of Indonesian people."

"Batik tulis Girilayu merupakan kekayaan budaya di Desa Girilayu yang dikenal dengan kualitas tinggi. Namun, belum diupayakan maksimal sehingga kesejahteraan pelakunya masih rendah. Pemdes Girilayu menyikapinya dengan menyelenggarakan berbagai program untuk meningkatkan daya saing dan nilai tambah batik. Hal ini diidentifikasi melalui rantai nilai. Penelitian ini memodifikasi Model Rantai Nilai Porter menjadi aktivitas produksi dan distribusi.  Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu menyintesis pola rantai nilai batik tulis Girilayu dari setiap karakteristik tempat serta keterlibatan pelakunya. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Data diolah dengan transkrip, penetapan tema, dan visualisasi data secara spasial dan aspasial. Selanjutnya, dilakukan analisis tema dan rantai nilai.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembatik, pengusaha, paguyuban, dan pedagang terlibat pada aktivitas distribusi. Sementara itu, hanya pembatik dan pengusaha yang terlibat pada aktivitas produksi. Karakteristik tempat seperti jarak pemasok, lingkungan fisik-sosial, pemanfaatan ruang, dan place utility mempengaruhi terbentuknya pola rantai nilai. Terdapat 3 pola yang terbentuk, yaitu pembatik-konsumen, pembatik-paguyuban-konsumen, dan pembatik-pedagang-konsumen. Setiap pola memiliki variasi nilai tambah, dengan nilai tambah tertinggi pada mata rantai produksi khususnya pelaku pembatik.

Batik tulis Girilayu is a cultural wealth in Girilayu village known for its high quality. However, it hasn’t been properly cultivated so the actor’s welfare still low. The government responded by organizing programs to improve batik’s competitiveness and added value. This is identified through the value chain. This research modifies Porter's value chain model into production and distribution activities.  This research aims to synthesize the value chain pattern of batik tulis Girilayu from each place characteristic and actor’s involvement. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data were processed by transcribing, determining themes, and visualizing spatially-aspatially. Then, theme and value chain analysis were used.  The results showed that batik producers, entrepreneur, association, and traders are involved in distribution. Meanwhile, only batik producers and entrepreneur are involved in production. Place characteristics such as supplier distance, physical-social environment, space utilization, and place utility influence the value chain patterns. There are 3 patterns formed, namely batik producer-consumer, batik producer-association-consumer, and batik producer-trader-consumer. Each pattern has added value variation, with the highest located in production chain, especially the batik producers."

"Tesis ini mengangkat fenomena tren batik yang dapat diamati sepanjang tahun 2008. Analisis wacana dilakukan untuk menjelaskan fenomena ini lebih lanjut dan melihat bagaimana posisi batik sebagai artefak kebudayaan di masyarakat saat ini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif tekstual dengan pendekatan konstruksionis.
Teori utama yang digunakan adalah teori wacana Michel Foucault, dan penjelasan dibantu konsep-konsep cultural studies yang dikemukakan Stuart Hall dkk. Sumber data adalah artikel yang membahas batik, yang dimuat di surat kabar ibukota.
Hasil analisis menunjukkan pembentukan wacana tentang batik melalui representasi makna di media massa, dan bahwa di dalamnya terjadi berbagai kontestasi makna, terutama dari aspek batik sebagai penanda identitas dan sebagai komoditas budaya.

This thesis highlights the batik trend that occured and can be observed in the year 2008. To better explain this cultural phenomenon and understand the position of batik as a cultural artefact in the contemporary society, discourse analysis is conducted. This research is qualitative with textual analysis, using social constructionist approach.
The main theory employed is Michel Foucault?s concept of discourse, and analysis is also based on some cultural studies key concepts conveyed by Stuart Hall et al. Primary data source is taken from newspaper articles that talk about batik.
The result shows how the discourse on batik is formed through representation of meanings in the mass media, and that inside the discourse various meanings are contested, mainly from the viewpoint of batik as an identity signifyer and as a cultural commodity."

"One of the strategies to promote community-based empowermwnt is through participative concept. This refers to developing and legally protecting the rights of the locals. This research is normative and empiric in nature, combining both, sociological and historical approaches. The data was directly collected from the natives in a batik kampong Trusmi, Cirebon, by distributing questionnairesand conducting interviews. The data from primary legal materials was analyzed, and it was then combined with the data from the secondary ones to draw conclusions. The findings suggest that program dissemination and training, particularly on business law, be promoted to empower batik makers in Trusmi. The participants of the program have significantly gained better knowledge on legal issues, especially that related to business law and intellectual rights. It is indicated by the growing number of well-informed participants, from previously 8 persons (20%) to 24 persons (60%). This 16 person increase is worth 40% of the total participants. The participants´ mastery of the material taught in terms of comprehension and atttitude also indicates a reasonable increase ; the number of participants with good grades is growing from 12 persons (30%) to 28 persons (70%). This equal a 16-person increase or 40%Â of the total participants. The program also results in their better mastery of the material taught in terms of practical skills; the number of those who got good grades is increasing from 8 persons (20%) to 28 persons (70%), which means there has been a 20-person increase or 50% of the total participants.Keywords: empowerment, batik makers, legal protection"
