"ABSTRACTPenelitian ini berfokus pada diskusi mengenai de-demokratisasi di Thailand sejak tahun 2006-2017. Sebagai negara demokratis, Thailand mulai menunjukkan indikasi keruntuhan demokrasi sejak kudeta militer tahun 2006. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk melihat penyebab dari de-demokratisasi melalui proses keruntuhan demokrasi di Thailand. Penelitian ini menggunakan landasan teori keruntuhan rezim demokrasi Linz yang melihat interaksi antar elemen keruntuhan melalui tiga tahapan proses. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus yang diperoleh melalui data sekunder. Hasil dari temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa de-demokratisasi di Thailand tidak hanya terjadi karena interaksi antar elemen keruntuhannya saja tapi juga karena kegagalan proses penyeimbangan kembali.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to thoroughly discuss the de democratization in Thailand during the period 2006 2017. Despite being a democratic country, the country has shown indications of democratic breakdown following the military coup during the period. This study attempts to address the causes such de democratization through the democratic breakdown process. Utilizing Linz rsquo s democratic regime breakdown theory, the discussion revolves on the interactions among the breakdown elements throughout three stages. In particular, this study qualitatively discusses study cases that are analyzed using secondary data relevant to the subject. The findings suggest that Thailand rsquo s de democratization ensued not only due to such interactions between the aforementioned elements, but also the country rsquo s reequilibration failures."

"Skripsi ini mengelaborasi konflik kepentingan yang terjadi antara pengusaha Sino-Thai pada era pemerintahan Thaksin Shinawatra, tahun 2001-2006, di Thailand. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan data sekunder. Temuan penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa pemerintahan Thaksin membangun pola teknokrasi yang ditujukan untuk mengembalikan dominasi modal Sino-Thai yang sempat terdesak oleh modal asing. Terdesaknya modal domestik merupakan akibat dari solusi IMF untuk menanggulangi krisis ekonomi Thailand. Konflik kepentingan muncul ketika keluarga Shinawatra menjadi yang paling diuntungkan dalam teknokrasi yang dijalankan oleh pemerintah Thailand untuk mengembalikan dominasi modal domestik pasca krisis ekonomi 1997. Untuk mengakhiri konflik tersebut, konglomerat Sino-Thai berkonsolidasi dengan monarki Thailand untuk mengambil alih pemerintahan dari kekuasaan Thaksin Shinawatra.

This Sarjana Thesis elaborates on the conflicts of interest among Sino-Thai business during the era of Thaksin Shinawatra, in 2001-2006, using a qualitative method based on secondary data. Thaksin’s government built a system of technocratic governance to bring back the domination of domestic capital, which was being threatened by foreign capital. The domination happened as a result of the impacts of the 1997 economic crisis. Conflicts of interest appeared after Shinawatra’s family became the only oligarch who benefited significantly from the government’s technocratic style. To overcome the conflicts, Sino-Thai oligarchs attempted to consolidate with the monarchy of Thailand to overthrow the Thaksin Shinawatra government. "

Various actions taken by the Red Shirt leads to political instability and take effect on Abhisit, The Prime Minister Of Thailand, to losing his popularity. This thesis looks at the theory of pessure group propounded by Stuart Gerry Brown and Edmund Burke, that Pressure groups are a very important agent of political participation. This groups seek to influence public support through activities such as demonstrations, petitions, provide political education for its members, and occupied on vital objects which resulted in unstable political situation."

"Skripsi ini membahas mengenai sebuah gerakan sosial sebagai politik perlawanan. Gerakan sosial yang dimaksud dalam skripsi ini adalah Peoples Alliance for Democracy PAD atau yang biasa disebut dengan Kaus Kuning. Fokus penelitian ini adalah upaya dari PAD yang berusaha untuk menjatuhkan Perdana Menteri Samak Sundaravej di Thailand. Dalam upayanya untuk menjatuhkan perdana menteri, PAD menggunakan konflik Kuil Preah Vihear sebagai isu politik. Hal ini tidak terlepas dari strategi PAD yang menggunakan isu sebagai alat politiknya. Melalui teori gerakan sosialyang diajukan oleh Sidney Tarrow 1998, penulis mencoba menganalisis upaya yang dilakukan PAD yang menggunakan konflik Kuil Preah Vihear untuk menjatuhkan Perdana Menteri Samak Sundaravej di Thailand. Selain itu, melalui teori gerakan sosial yang diajukan oleh Tarrow, peneliti juga akan menganalisis Mahkamah Konstitusi sebagai jaringan elite yang membantu PAD dalam menjatuhkan Perdana Menteri Samak Sundaravej.

This bachelor thesis discusses about one of social movements as a contentious politics. This social movement is called People rsquo s Alliance for Democracy PAD or commonly addressed as yellow shirt. This research focuses on the effort of PAD that attempts to overthrow Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej in Thailand. In an effort to overthrow the prime minister, PAD uses Preah Vihear Temple conflict as a political issue to mobilize Thai society. This cannot be separated from the PAD strategy that uses the issue as a political tool. Through the social movement theory proposed by Sidney Tarrow 1998 , the author tries to analyze the effort of PAD using the Preah Vihear Temple conflict to overthrow Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej in Thailand. In addition, through the social movements theory proposed by Tarrow, researchers will also analyze the Contitutional Court as an elite network that assist PAD to overthrow Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej."
