"By covering the full spectrum of topics relevant to peptidic drugs, this timely handbook serves as an introductory reference for both drug developers and biomedical researchers interested in pharmaceutically active peptides, presenting both the advantages and challenges associated with this molecular class.
The first part discusses current approaches to developing pharmaceutically active peptides, including case studies of the use of peptidic drugs in cancer and AIDS therapy. The second part surveys strategies for the development and targeting of peptidic drugs.
With its integration of biochemical, pharmaceutical and clinical research, this work reveals the full picture of modern peptide drug research in a single volume, making it an invaluable reference for medicinal chemists, biochemists, biotechnologists, and those in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries."

"This volume focuses on the roles of various peptide signaling molecules in development, defence and homeostasis. As it is likely that further plant peptide signaling molecules remain to be discovered, the last section takes a practical look at methods to identify new peptides and characterise their functions."

"Summary:
There are more than 500 biopharmaceuticals on the market, including more than 200 therapeutic proteins, making biologics the fastest growing sector in the biopharmaceutical market. These products include more than 40 monoclonal antibodies, for indications ranging from treatment or mitigation of various types of cancer to rheumatoid arthritis. The clinical application of these therapeutic peptides and proteins is limited by several problems, such as lack of physical and chemical stability or the lack of desirable attributes for adequate absorption or distribution. Thus, as these therapeutic p

"This is the first work devoted to the topic and draws together knowledge gained on different types of peptidomimetics and other pseudo-peptides with drug properties. As such, it includes peptoids, beta-peptides, polyamide DNA binders as well as peptide nucleic acids.
The expert authors and editor discuss chemical properties and stability, biological activity and reactivity, as well as practical aspects of synthesis, making this a prime resource for drug developers and bioorganic chemists working with these compounds.

"Successful delivery of biopharmaceuticals is a major challenge because their molecular properties lead to poor physical and chemical stability in the body and limited membrane permeability. Delivery technologies for biopharmaceuticals is the first single-volume reference to describe the strategies to overcome the main barriers for successful delivery of all major classes of biopharmaceuticals--peptides, proteins, nucleic acids, and vaccines. With extensive case studies showing how the science has been put into practice."

The high number of diseases in Indonesia requires fast and effective treatment, unfortunately the currently available medications, although effective, can have a negative impact if used continuously. For example, chemotherapy drugs used to treat cancer if used continuously can cause hair loss and neurological dysfunction. It is necessary to develop new medications that have milder side effects and are easy to procure locally. Such potential for new medication candidate is animal venom sourced from C. rhodostoma. In this study, activity test was carried out on toxins and peptides derived from C. rhodostoma as anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-cancer using the Kirby Bauer Disk Diffusion method against Escherichia coli and Candida albicans and using MTT Assay method against Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF-7). The results of the study showed that the inhibition zone for fungi and bacteria had the same value as the negative control, this indicates that the toxins and peptides tested did not have anti-bacterial or anti-fungal activity at the concentrations tested based on lethal dose (LD50). Meanwhile, for cancer test results, it was found that several peptides could inhibit MCF-7 cells based on the Half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value. These peptides were IK8 with IC50 of 18,82 ppm, LK16 with an IC50 of 63,18 ppm and VK10 with IC50 of 180,67 ppm."
