"This is an updated and substantially revised edition of Peter Matthews's well-known Morphology, first published in 1974. It includes chapters on inflectional and lexical morphology, derivational processes and productivity, compounds, paradigms, and much new material on markedness and other aspects of iconicity. As in the first edition, the theoretical discussion is eclectic and critical: its scope ranges from the ancient grammarians to the work of Chomsky and his followers, the disintegration of the classical Chomskyan scheme, and the renewed standing of morphology and historical linguistics in recent years. The examples are drawn from English and other European languages, both ancient and modern. The work will appeal to both specialists in particular languages - it contains much original material, and students of general linguistics. For this new edition much now obsolete discussion has been removed and replaced by discussion of current issues, and the further reading sections have been thoroughly updated.

"This textbook discussing morphology and its processes within a general framework that will incorporate the most recent developments in the field, but also in their relation with syntax, lexical semantics and phonology. It pays particular attention to the debate between lexicalism and constructionism, and provides open activities designed to help students start their own original research and stimulate their own thinking over the morphology of their languages beyond what is usually described in published works. This approach is particularly important because many textbooks ignore some of the most recent developments in syntax when it comes to defining the place of morphology and the lexicon in the architecture of grammar or to providing evidence about the existence of morphology as an independent module. This textbook discusses developments in Construction Grammar and in the Minimalist Program which have helped reframe the discussion about the Lexical Integrity Hypothesis and related issues. By presenting the latest theories and highlighting the current challenges in morphology, upper level undergraduate and postgraduate students will find this textbook an invigorating and inspiring resource."

Internet has now become a media for people to access information and to communicate with ease. Through internet many social medias and digital increase. Terms and words in social medias and digital technologies that are mostly from English are borrowed by other foreign languages, like Dutch. The problems of the morphological word formation of the English loanwords in Dutch and the adaptation of the words in Dutch grammatical context are interesting to be researched. The method used in this research is qualitative. The main focus in this research is the morphological processes of word formation of those loanwords. Furthermore, the use of the words in the the Dutch grammatical context is another interesting case. The result of this research indicates that the English loanwords would be adopted in Dutch after the morfphological adjustment. The conclusion of this research is that the borrowed words in Dutch are mostly loanwords or vreemde woorden lsquo foreign words rsquo that would become bastaardwoorden lsquo hybrid words."

"In this radically new approach to morphological typology, the authors set out new and explicit methods for the typological classification of languages. Drawing on evidence from a diverse range of languages including Chinantec, Dakota, French, Fur, Icelandic, Ngiti and Sanskrit, the authors propose innovative ways of measuring inflectional complexity. Designed to engage graduate students and academic researchers, the book presents opportunities for further investigation. The authors' data sets and the computational tool that they constructed for their analysis are available online, allowing readers to employ them in their own research"
