"“Born global” (BG) firms have attracted many researchers throughout the last decade. The emergence of this phenomenon initially posed a serious challenge to the validity and applicability of the traditional “stage” theory of internationalization; however, scholars have more recently been able to reconcile traditional and new theories into a single framework for studying the process of internationalization. This volume applies both network theory and knowledge-based theory to analyze export assistance in the context of internationalization of low-tech BG firms in developing countries (with an in-depth study of the apparel industry in Bangladesh).

"Previous literature has documented various aspects of behavior in the budgeting process. Behavioral problems that are often discussed include budgetary slack and opportunistic behavior that occur due to information asymmetry. However, there is little attention to behavioral problems in previous studies called ratcheting behavior. This study investigates such behavior in a governmental budgeting setting. Besides, this study extends by testing ratchet behavior when local government adopts a well-known budget control mechanism, called analysis on standardized expenditure. To accomplish this purpose, study participants role-played as the budget preparer on a government budgeting task. The experiment used a web-based instrument that involved 51 participants. Results showed that budget preparer engaged in a ratchet behavior when setting their budget. Furthermore, budget ratcheting did not occur when preparer using an analysis of standardized expenditure. However, this situation only remains for one year. In the next year, preparer engaged in a ratchet behavior, at a lower intention. These findings underscore the importance of analysis of standardized expenditure in a government budgeting process environment. As a practical contribution, these findings suggest that using and monitoring for the adoption of analysis on standardized expenditure should be maintained continuously. "

"While widely accepted as the only global instrument to tackle global warning, Kyoto protocol has proven its inadequacy to enforce the basic principles of polluter pays and common but different responsibility. Kyoto's legacies which was concluded by the results of 13th conference of parties (COP) in Bali, late last year, has overtly shown that its flexible mechanism are failing ever since its acquiescence...."

"In Making It to the forefront, Nesli Aydogan-Duda has assembled a distinguished group of authors to analyze the particular challenges and opportunities of nanotechnology emergence and management in the developing world. In so doing, they address the issues from several angles, ranging from cultural issues to capital markets, industrial clusters to government policy and legal structure. Drawing from in-depth research and case studies in Turkey, Latin America, India, China, and Iran, and a comparison with the development of the industry in the United states, the authors present a cross-cultural approach, with particular emphasis on the strategic nature of the nanotechnology industry for economic development, consumer welfare, and homeland security. Among the topics they consider are the importance of knowledge transfer from universities to the market and, more generally, the interface between science and its commercialization and the institutional infrastructure that is necessary to maximize the potential of science and technology. In doing so, the authors provide unprecedented theoretical and empirical contributions to the study of nanotechnology, and, more generally, insight into the complex business, political, and cultural environment that must be established in order for such an industry to thrive in the context of a developing country."

"Geriatric hip fractures are common; however, surgery on a 100-year-old patient is rare in Indonesia. We report arthroplasty in 100-year-old woman with right hip fracture and right Colles fracture; which benefits her a three year of active and qualified life. Despite her age, the patient was quite independent, active, and mobile beforehand. Hence a meticulous preoperative planning and post-operative rehabilitation were structured by a comprehensive medic and non-medic geriatric team. Cementless bipolar hemiarthroplasty was perfectly sufficient for the hip fracture under regional anesthesia while the Colles fracture was managed with a close reduction and plastering. Rehabilitation was started on Day-2 and continued weeks after discharge. The patient is still alive and well 3 years after the surgery. Surgery is beneficial for the 100-year-old patient; it is in the best interests of the patient’s mobility and quality of life. Age alone should not limit a surgical decision as long as all comorbidities are controlled by a comprehensive medic and non-medic geriatric team."
