"[ABSTRAKTesis ini menyuguhkan terjemahan beranotasi novel The Kaisho. Anotasi dilakukan untuk menjelaskan masalah penerjemahan istilah budaya dan penyelesaiannya. Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

ABSTRACTThis thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Annotation is performed to explain the problem and its solution translation of the cultural terms. The uniqueness of the novel in terms of culture and the desire to introduce the cultural background of the source text become a basic of translation that adheres to the ideology of foreignization, without ignoring the localization of ideology. Dalampenelitian ini saya melakukan terjemahan novel Various Pets Alive & Deadkarangan Marina Lewycka dan melakukan anotasi terhadap beberapa bagian TSuyang saya anggap sulit dan menantang. Dalam menerjemahkan novel ini, sayamenggunakan metode penerjemahan semantis dan komunikatif. Metodepenerjemahan semantis saya gunakan untuk menerjemahkan kata, frasa dankalimat yang erat kaitannya dengan budaya, bahasa dan karakter dalam novel,misalnya saja pengucapan bahasa Inggris yang salah oleh orang asing di Inggrisserta istilah asing. Dalam melakukan anotasi, saya menggunakan serangkaian strategipenerjemahan dari Newmark.Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa judul TSu dapat diterjemahkan kedalam BSa jika judul tersebut berpotensi tidak menarik bagi pembaca sasaran.Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menyarankan untuk mempertahankan kesalahan dalampenggunaan bahasa oleh tokoh yang merupakan orang asing di dalam novel ini.Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa penghilangan makna kata, frasa ataukalimat dapat dilakukan jika makna kata, frasa dan kalimat tersebut berpotensimembingungkan pembaca karena tiba-tiba muncul dan penghilangan itu tidakmemengaruhi jalan cerita novel itu. An annotated translation is adding notes for the equivalence I choose while performing a translation. Translation methods applied are semantics and idiomatics. The problems that often emerge in the translation process of this story are related with cultural differences. The deployment of a range of translating procedures attempt to address those problems. In performing annotation, referrence to various dictionaries and websites, along with a small scale survey, were conducted. The annotation conduckd for this final assignment is limited to words, sentences, and phrases. In conclusion, translator's mastery of language, cultural, as well as field of the text are needed in order to produce a good translation."

"Terjemahan beranotasi adalah karya ilmiah yang disusun dengan memberikan anotasi (catatan) tentang permasalahan penerjemahan serta solusinya, baik dari segi linguistis maupun sosial-budaya. Tujuan terjemahan beranotasi adalah memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas padanan yang dipilih oleh penerjemah. Terjemahan beranotasi ini akan membahas penerjemahan pada novel Frankly, Frannie! karya AJ. Stern ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Novel anak ini dipilih berdasarkan ketertarikan penerjemah pada karakter Frannie yang memiliki imajinasi tinggi dan gaya bahasa yang khas serta latar budaya yang khas Amerika Serikat. Dalam anotasi terjemahannya, dibahas beberapa prosedur penerjemahan yang diterapkan untuk mengatasi permasalahan pemadanan. Selanjutnya, saya merujuk pada pelbagai kamus, mengunjungi laman di Internet, dan melakukan wawancara. Banyak hal yang harus dipertimbangkan agar terjemahan menjadi wajar dan berterima dalam budaya BSa anak-anak. Oleh karena itu, pemahaman mengenai metode dan prosedur penerjemahan menjadi acuan bagi saya dalam menerjemahkan.

An annotated translation is a translation done by providing annotations about the discussion of translation problems and solutions, both in terms of linguistic and socio-cultural. The purpose of the annotations is to justify the choices of translation which have been made by the translator. This annotated translation will discuss the translation on Frankly, Frannie! novel by AJ. Stern into Indonesian. Children's novel was selected based on the translator's interest of Frannie's character that has a unique imagination and language style and also contains American background culture.

The method used in translating are semantic and communicative methods to look beautiful and natural, and the contextual meaning can be accepted and understood by the target readers. In doing annotations, translation techniques applied to solve equivalent problems. Furthermore, I refer to various dictionaries, visit the web sites, and conduct interviews. Many things must be considered to be reasonable and acceptable translation in children's TL culture. Therefore, the understanding of methods and procedures of translation becomes a reference for me in translating."

"Terjemahan beranotasi sebagai tugas akhir ini, bertujuan untuk memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas padanan yang dipilih dalam menerjemahkan secara mandiri buku How Come ke bahasa Indonesia. Teks sumber yang saya pilih adalah teks teknis, dan berjenis ilmiah populer. Dalam menerjemahkan saya menggunakan ideologi domestikasi dan metode komunikatif mengingat teks yang bersifat informatif. Unsur yang dipermasalahkan dalam penerjemahan dan dianotasi ada empat kelompok, yaitu istilah, nama jenis, idiom, dan tanda baca. Dengan demikian, sejumlah prosedur digunakan agar berbagai masalah yang ditemukan dalam penerjemahan dapat diatasi. Prosedur penerjemahan adalah transferensi, padanan budaya, penjelasan tambahan, calque, dan transposisi. Selain itu, untuk mencari padanan yang lazim dalam budaya BSa, digunakan berbagai rujukan baik dari narasumber, internet, penelusuran pustaka, dan berbagai kamus. Survei dan wawancara dengan narasumber digunakan untuk mengetahui kelaziman dalam budaya BSa selain pemaharnam teks sumber. Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan dari penelitian ini bahwa penerapan prosedur yang tepat dapat membantu penerjemah untuk mengatasi permasalahan penerjemahan akibat pertemuan dua budaya.

The objective of this final annotated translation assignment is to give justification of the equivalances chosen in translating the book How Come into Indonesian language independently. The source text chosen is a technical text and the type is popular science. The ideology used here is domestication and the method is communicative which is related to informative text. Some elements to be annotated is categorized into four groups: terms, common nouns, idioms, and punctuations. Therefore, some procedures are used in order to cope with the problems found in the translation. They are transference, cultural equivalance, contextual conditioning, calque, and transposition. Besides, to achieve a natural equivalance in the TL culture, some references, Internet, and dictionaries are used. Conducting surveys and interviews to gain the naturalness in TL culture and also comprehensibility of the SL. The conclusion of this research is, that the application of the appropriate method could overcome the translation problems which is caused by the two different cultures."

"Penelitian ini membahas penerjemahan preposisi pemarkah lokatif dan adverbia lokatif bahasa Prancis ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan menganalisis padanannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa preposisi pemarkah lokatif bahasa Prancis dapat diberi padanan berupa preposisi pula dalam bahasa Indonesia, sedangkan adverbia lokatif bahasa Prancis tidak pernah berpadanan adverbia lokatif bahasa Indonesia, sebab bahasa Indonesia tidak mengenal adverbia lokatif. Oleh karena itu, kesejajaran bentuk dapat diterapkan dalam penerjemahan preposisi pemarkah lokatif, sebaliknya penerjemahan adverbia lokatif tidak terikat pada kesejajaran bentuk dan lebih mementingkan kesepadanan tekstual. Hasil analisis juga menunjukkan pergeseran dalam penerjemahan, baik pergeseran tataran maupun pergeseran kategori. Meskipun demikian, amanat yang terdapat dalam bahasa sumber tetap dapat tersampaikan dalam bahasa sasaran.

This research explains the translation of locative prepositions and locative adverbs in French language to Indonesian language by analyzing their Indonesian equivalents. It shows that there are Indonesian equivalents for French locative prepositions that work as prepositions as well, whereas Indonesian equivalents for French locative adverbs can never be determined as adverbs because there is no locative adverb in Indonesian language. Therefore, formal correspondence can be applied in the translation of locative prepositions. On the other hand, the translation of locative adverbs ignores formal correspondence but emphasizes textual equivalence. The result of the analysis shows translation shifts, both level shifts and category shifts. Nevertheless, the message in the source language still can be transferred in the target language."

"ABSTRAKDisertasi ini menyingkap strategi, ideologi, metode, dan teknik penerjemahan ungkapan sapaan bahasa Inggris-Amerika dan ungkapan sapaan bahasa Indonesia serta budaya kebahasaan yang terlibat di dalam penerjemahan. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan tiga novel Amerika beserta terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya dan wawancara dengan penerjemah serta narasumber lain. Didukung oleh teori penerjemahan, ungkapan sapaan, dan budaya kebahasaan, penelitian ini menemukan dua ideologi penerjemahan yang berhulu pada strategi penerjemahan pemancaan (foreignization) dan pelokalan (domestication). Di samping itu, juga ditemukan tujuh metode penerjemahan dan dua puluh empat teknik penerjemahan serta budaya kebahasaan yang menyangkut kuasa (power) dan solidaritas (solidarity).

ABSTRACTThis dissertation reveals the translation strategies, ideologies of translation, translation methods, and translation techniques of American-English forms of address into their Indonesian translations within linguistic culture involved in the translation. This qualitative research employs three American novels with their translation versions and interviews with their translators and other resource persons. Through the theories of translation, forms of address theories, and linguistic culture, the research findings indicate that two ideologies of translation: foreignization and domestication. Besides, it is also found that there are seven methods of translation with twenty four techniques of translation and linguistic culture relating to power and solidarity."

"Tesis ini adalah terjemahan beranotasi. Catatan diberikan sebagai bentuk pertanggungjawaban atas padanan yang dipilih selama penerjemahan. Teori yang digunakan meliputi metode, prosedur, dan ideologi penerjemahan yang dipilih dan digunakan untuk menghasilkan terjemahan yang baik. Dalam penerjemahan TSu yang berupa memoar, metode yang digunakan adalah metode semantis. Anotasi meliputi kesepadanan di tataran kata dan frasa dengan total data anotasi 38 unsur. Ditemukan masalah penerjemahan yang berupa nama diri (3), nama jenis (2), onomatope (3), warna (7), neologisme filsafat (3), metafora (7), idiom (3), dan istilah (10) yang mencakup istilah arsitektur, kedokteran, dan pendidikan. Permasalahan yang dominan adalah frasa figuratif dalam BSu, sedangkan temuan baru yang belum pernah ada di tesis terjemahan beranotasi sebelumnya yaitu  neologisme filsafat. Penerjemahan memoar perjalanan yang ditulis oleh dua penulis berbeda generasi menuntut penerjemah untuk peka pada dua gaya bahasa, sudut pandang, dan pola pikir yang berbeda, demi teralihkannya pesan TSu dengan baik dalam BSa tanpa menghilangkan dua perbedaan itu.

This thesis is an annotated translation. The annotation is given as the form of responsibility on the equivalents chosen. The theories applied to produce a good translation in this study are methods, procedures, and ideology of translation. Since the source text is a memoir, semantic method is applied during its translation to the target text. The annotation is conducted to words and phrases with a total of 38 data. Translation problems are found in the form of proper name (3), type name (2), onomatopoeia (3), color (7), neologism in philosophy (3), metaphor (7), idiom (3), and terms (10) including term of architecture, medic, and education. The dominant problem found is the use of figurative phrases, whereas the new finding in this thesis is equivalents of neologism in philosophy. In translating memoir written by two different authors demand the translator to be sensitive to two different language styles, viewpoints, and mindsets. So that, the source text messages can be transferred into the target language well without neglecting the two unique differences."

"Tesis ini membahas terjemahan beranotasi yang merupakan hasil terjemahan yang disertai anotasi atau diberikan catatan sebagai bentuk pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas padanan yang dipilihnya. Penerjemahan anotasi ini melibatkan sejumlah teori, yakni ideologi, metode, dan teknik penerjemahan. Pemilihan teori dimaksudkan agar terjemahan sesuai dengan tujuan skopos penerjemahan. Ideologi pelokalan dipilih dalam menerjemahankan TSu dengan alasan agar terjemahan dapat berterima bagi pembaca sasaran yang terbilang awam dalam memahami konteks budaya TSa yang berlatar budaya Amerika. Sementara itu, metode semantis dan komunikatif dipilih dengan alasan edukatif, yakni selain berterima, TSa diharapkan mampu mengedukasi pembaca sasaran terkait perbedaan konteks budaya. Dalam penerjemahan karya sastra, penerjemah tidak hanya sekadar dapat mengalihkan pesan dari TSu ke TSa, tetapi juga dituntut untuk memiliki kreatifitas tinggi dalam mencari padanan dalam BSa.

The focus of this study is an annotated translation which is a translation supported by annotations translator rsquo s commentary as the translator rsquo s accountability on the equivalents chosen. This translating and annotating process requires a set of theories consisting the ideology, methods, and techniques. The theories must be selected or applied to produce a translation based on certain translation goals skopos. Domesticating is dominant in translating the ST due to the acceptance of the translation to the target readers that are considered having lacking in competence in understanding the American culture ST. Meanwhile, semantic and communicative methods are chosen based on educational purpose meaning that in addition to the acceptance, TT is expected to be able to educate the readers related to the culture gap. In translating literary texts, a translator is not only capable in rendering the meaning from ST to TT, but is also demanded to be creative in searching for the appropriate equivalence."
