"Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) pada umumnya diasosiasikan dengan suatu peta. Pada peta, informasi yang terkandung di dalamnya dapat beragam, sesuai kebutuhan pembuat atau pengguna. Seiring dengan perkembangan media digital dan bentuk komunikasinya, aplikasi SIG juga berkembang dengan makin memudahkan diakses dan tersebarnya informasi. Hal ini ditandai dengan munculnya berbagai aplikasi peta online, salah satunya adalah Google Maps. Penggunaan Google Maps yang dapat dikostumisasi dengan menyediakan API dapat dimanfaatkan untuk membentuk suatu aplikasi SIG mengenai kondisi geografis dan sosial kampus Universitas Indonesia (UI) Depok. Pada skripsi ini akan dibahas mengenai tahapan-tahapan yang diperlukan dalam membuat suatu aplikasi SIG berbasis web.

A Geographical Information System (GIS) is most often associated with a map. A map should contains useful information for the user. The new era of information technology and the World Wide Web complement the development of GIS. As most people are familiar with, online map could be find within the internet, one of which is Google Maps. Google maps' feature to customize with its API can be use to create a web based GIS application about University of Indonesia (UI). This thesis will discuss about the steps that are necessary to build a web based GIS application, ranging from the planning to the implementation."
