Flat plate ship is one of alternative ship that can provide convenience in the assembly process. However, Flat plate ship has a higher resistance than the streamlined shape of the ship. So a modification is needed to reduce resistance by improving performance of propeller to thrust. The way is by using a water tunnel with added water flow direction. The purpose of this research is to improve the effectiveness of ship propulsion that will affect the speed of the ship. The research method is done by passing electrical power to the dynamo model boat motor and use a digital stopwatch to obtain the travel time during the test. Results of testing showed that the amount of flow directed into the propeller effective increasing the propeller thrust, so the increase of velocity in boat can be reach."

In the process of designing geotechnical structures, it is important to consider the uncertainty of soil shear strength parameters. This uncertainty can influence the soil structure stability and resulting in unexpected expenses due to structural failure. This research will provide a decision making process to choose which type of slope excavation structure in urban areas by considering the uncertainty of soil parameters using probabilistic method. Slope excavation structures which will be considered are open-cut slopes, excavation with sheet pile and secant pile retaining wall. The decision making process will be calculated by using Expected Monetary Value analysis which considers land acquisition cost, construction cost, reconstruction cost caused by failure and revenue lost caused by failure. The result shows that the biggest cost which affected the decision is the land acquisition cost, followed by revenue lost cost, construction cost, and reconstruction cost."

ABSTRACT
The rapid growth of railway based public transportation in metropolitan city is followed by its supporting facilities such as underground tunnel. The minimum exposure towards ambient air in underground tunnel encourages the further studies about the conflagration smoke behavior which effects visibility change. In the existing situation, the smoke extraction system is supported by forced ventilation which has been qualitatively known to be able in extracting smoke during the evacuation time. The studies about the effect of natural ventilation on visibility in a laboratory scale underground tunnel simulation become interesting to be done due to the possibility of smoke extraction system failure while evacuation is being held. The laboratory scaled conflagration simulation is held at a 1:16,25 scaled tunnel model and numerical simulation using Fire Dynamics Simulation version 6 with 1:16,25 scale. The Froude Number is kept to be constant for both of the methods to ensure the ratio between fluid inertia force and its gravitational weight are similar so the full scaled smoke behavior can be generally predicted by the laboratory scaled result. The different trend in visibility declination among the methods as the result indicates an inaccuracy of the simulation method to predict the visibility declination characteristic by the time. It is only generally able to predict the final value of visibility and whether it is decline or is constant by the time. The final conditional conclusion can be highlighted from this research is natural ventilation is proven to be able to reduce the visibility declination when the conflagration occurs.

"ABSTRAK
For dynamic excitation, it is convenient to idealize homogeneous soil under a base mat by a semi-infinite truncated cone. It is easy to analyze the cone model for vertical and horizontal translation, as well as for rocking and torsional rotation. The accuracy by comparison to rigorous half-space solutions is quite adequate for practical applications. Time-domain computational methods for translational and rotational motions are described in both the stiffness and flexibility formulations and elucidated by examples. The infinite cone is dynamically equivalent to a discrete element representation of the soil, consisting of an interconnection of a small number of masses, springs, and dashpots. As an alternative to the physical-component model, the response may be determined directly by simple recursive numerical procedures. The recursive methods are exact and particularly well suited for hand calculations of short-duration excitations."

"This book presents the development of optimization platform for geotechnical engineering which is one of the key components in smart geotechnics. The book discusses the fundamentals of the optimization algorithm with constitutive models of soils. Helping readers easily understand the optimization algorithm applied in geotechnical engineering, this book first introduces the methodology of the optimization-based parameter identification, and then elaborates the principle of three newly developed efficient optimization algorithms, followed by the ideas of a variety of laboratory tests and formulations of constitutive models. Moving on to the application of optimization methods in geotechnical engineering, this book presents an optimization-based parameter identification platform with a practical and concise interface based on the above theories. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate-level teaching in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering and other related engineering specialties. It is also of use to industry practitioners, due to the inclusion of real-world applications, opening the door to advanced courses on both modeling and algorithm development within the industrial engineering and operations research fields."
