Ewald, Roland
"Roland Ewald analyzes and discusses existing approaches to solve the algorithm selection problem in the context of simulation. He introduces a framework for automatic simulation algorithm selection and describes its integration into the open-source modelling and simulation framework James II. Its selection mechanisms are able to cope with three situations : no prior knowledge is available, the impact of problem features on simulator performance is unknown, and a relationship between problem features and algorithm performance can be established empirically. The author concludes with an experimental evaluation of the developed methods."

"This book combines a model reduction technique with an efficient parametrization scheme for the purpose of solving a class of complex and computationally expensive simulation-based problems involving finite element models. These problems, which have a wide range of important applications in several engineering fields, include reliability analysis, structural dynamic simulation, sensitivity analysis, reliability-based design optimization, Bayesian model validation, uncertainty quantification and propagation, etc. The solution of this type of problems requires a large number of dynamic re-analyses. To cope with this difficulty, a model reduction technique known as substructure coupling for dynamic analysis is considered. While the use of reduced order models alleviates part of the computational effort, their repetitive generation during the simulation processes can be computational expensive due to the substantial computational overhead that arises at the substructure level. In this regard, an efficient finite element model parametrization scheme is considered. When the division of the structural model is guided by such a parametrization scheme, the generation of a small number of reduced order models is sufficient to run the large number of dynamic re-analyses. Thus, a drastic reduction in computational effort is achieved without compromising the accuracy of the results. The capabilities of the developed procedures are demonstrated in a number of simulation-based problems involving uncertainty."

"Kebutuhan energi nasional Indonesia semakin meningkat setiap harinya.

Indonesia electrical power demand is increasing day by day. Getting along with an unimproved potential source, renewable energy is starting to become a solution in need, such as solar energy. However, solar panel is still considered as an alternative with lower efficiency rate and a complex system that needs a backup source and direct current storage which is battery. In order to raise the performa as well as to secure the system with that kind of complexity, an algorithm to manage a joint switch between each system optimally is very much needed. In the design presented, the performance and efficiency given by solar panel system can be elevated by a MPPT Solar Charge Comtroller. The controller will determine the voltage reference maximizing the power output given by the solar panel. MPPT will then be optimized by a PI controller to reduce the settling time of the system. Battery is arranged paralelly with the load and is modelled as a DC power storage and as well as a power source for supplying the lload were the solar panel is not working. This block is equipped with an automatic switching system based on an algorithm created by writer considering all the parameters contained to optimize and secure the work of the system. When its in testing process, PI MPPT solar panel battery deliver a result suitable to a real condition with a below 1 second settling time. After that, the system is tested upon two random conditions, which are A with a random parameter stated by writer and B with a parameter based on a literature cited by writer. Eventually, the system is giving an appropriate result in all conditions with the switching algorithm is working properly. This result proves that the system and algorithm given by writer is eligible to be applied and develop further."
