"This study revisits one of the most extensive examples of the spread of ideas in the history of civilization: the diffusion of Indian religious and political ideas to Southeast Asia before the advent of Islam and European colonialism. Hindu and Buddhist concepts and symbols of kingship and statecraft helped to legitimize Southeast Asian rulers, and transform the political institutions and authority of Southeast Asia. But the process of this diffusion was not accompanied by imperialism, political hegemony, or colonization as conventionally understood."

"This is the Tamil version of Nagapattinam to Suvarnadwipa, Reflections on the Chola Naval Expeditions to Southeast Asia, published by ISEAS in 2009. The expansion of the Cholas from their base in the Kaveri Delta saw this growing power subdue the kingdoms of southern India, as well as occupy Sri Lanka and the Maldives, by the early eleventh century. It was also during this period that the Cholas initiated links with Song China.Concurrently, the Southeast Asian polity of Sriwijaya had, through its Sumatran and Malayan ports, come to occupy a key position in East-West maritime trade, requiring engagement with both Song China to the north and the Chola kingdom to its west."

ABSTRACT
This research examines the progress of ASEAN towards a security community by analysing the armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. How ASEAN responds to the conflict as well as the interaction dynamic between the two countries have played a central role in analysing why the armed conflict occurs in the middle of ASEAN’s effort to develop a more mature security community. By employing constructivist framework which emphasises norms and identity development, this theses analyses three factors behind the armed conflict, namely “organisation”, “transaction”, and “social learning”. These factors will be crucial in determining ASEAN’s development and decline in the future."

In 1991, government of India initiated the so-called look east policy as a policy guidance to intensify its relations with ASEAN. Look east policy aimed not only to expand India's economy but also to pursue its political security interests in a changing landscape of global and regional environment.
As the focus in this paper, Look east policy will be understood by exploring ontological, epistemological and axiological aspects of three main paradigms in International Relations: realism, liberalism and constructivism. Three different theories-balance of power of realism, institutional liberalism and ideational constructivism- would be exploited to understand the impact of Look east policy on the India-ASEAN relations.
This paper concludes that, Look east policy is an instrument to increase power of India and a part of India's balancing policy (realism), as an instrument to intensify cooperation between India and ASEAN (liberalism) and as an ideational instrument to construct social relations between India and ASEAN (constructivism). Axiologically, Look east policy is used to enhance economic cooperation and political security alliance between India and ASEAN (realism), to institutionalize India-ASEAN relations and provide gains for both parties (liberalism) and to bring India closer to ASEAN through social interactions (constructivism). These goals are pursued through economic and political security alliance and also the making of social structure within the framework of India-ASEAN relations.
