"In the communication of pain, language matters. Telling someone to feel pain is not just a description of one’s pain, it is – as philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein informs us – also asking for recognition of that pain. This requires a shared language which communicates it. Do we need a new language which can communicate and recognize the pain of the colonial past more effectively? Commencing with the recent apology for waging “a colonial war” in Indonesia by the Dutch prime minister, this article suggests an intervention in postcolonial recognition politics by exploring the idea of the multi-voicedness. Multi-voicedness (Meerstemmigheid) has become a catchword in current public and scholarly debates about the Dutch colonial past and its legacy, in which decades of recognition politics have tended to privilege clear-cut binary identities favouring certain voices above others. There is little conceptual clarity around what the term multi-voicedness entails and even less about its utility in postcolonial discourse. Although commonly associated with juxtaposing different perspectives, this article argues that introducing the lens of multi-voicedness – more specifically the idea of the dialogical self (Hubert J.M. Hermans 2004) – into the recognition discourse, contributes to a better understanding of transnational recognition politics. Capturing the diaspora’s multi-voicedness permits wider scrutiny of what is otherwise a too simplified identity and generation question implicated in post-colonial recognition politics. It will be argued that recognition claims, although supposedly part of an emancipatory struggle, are silencing the multi-voicedness of entangled Indonesian-Dutch family history, the driver for the fight for justice in the first place."

Bandung which was originally an isolated area experienced a very rapid progress in the colonial era, many places were built to support the lives of its people such as schools, markets, housing, factories, etc., thus Karsten planned to build tram lines and its stops to support Bandung’s citizens in their daily activities. So that the problem of how the railroad system landscape in Bandung in colonial era interpreted by the community at that time for their daily lives becomes a very interesting research problem. With descriptive-analytical research, researchers divide the data into two types, namely primary in the form of field observations and secondary which constitute library data, using landscape archeological frameworks and post-processual paradigms capable of solving the problem of this research. The results of this study suggest that there are strategic and effectiveness aspects for the passengers who are residents of Bandung and around Bandung. The tram stops affect the travel time of the citizens who will travel to these locations to be shorter and require less effort compared to if there are no shelters located near the facilities these public facilities. The novelty of this research is in its interpretation which is in the realm of the minds of its inhabitants, so that it is not only a functional problem.

"Transportasi menjadi aspek penting selama proses pendistribusian barang, informasi, dan tenaga kerja ke berbagai wilayah. Industri perkebunan turut mempengaruhi perkembangan sistem transportasi, termasuk distribusi komoditas industri perkebunan kolonial.

Transportation is an important aspect during the process of distributing goods, information and labor to various regions. The plantation industry also influenced the development of the transportation system, including the distribution of colonial plantation industry commodities. Banjoewangi Station has a significant role difference as a terminus station compared to other stations. This research seeks to determine the connectivity of regional networks and the role of Banjoewangi Station in the mobilization of the plantation industry during the Dutch colonial period using the concept of a network approach. This research was conducted using archaeological research methods consisting of data collection, data processing, and data interpretation. The results of data interpretation show that the distribution of industrial areas influenced the formation of settlement patterns and mobilization networks between regions. The network forms a centralized pattern that places Banjoewangi Station as the central point for the surrounding area."
