Bertoluzza, Silvia
"This book is a collection of lecture notes for the CIME course on "Multiscale and Adaptivity: Modeling, Numerics and Applications," held in Cetraro (Italy), in July 2009. Complex systems arise in several physical, chemical, and biological processes, in which length and time scales may span several orders of magnitude. Traditionally, scientists have focused on methods that are particularly applicable in only one regime, and knowledge of the system on one scale has been transferred to another scale only indirectly. Even with modern computer power, the complexity of such systems precludes their being treated directly with traditional tools, and new mathematical and computational instruments have had to be developed to tackle such problems. The outstanding and internationally renowned lecturers, coming from different areas of Applied Mathematics, have themselves contributed in an essential way to the development of the theory and techniques that constituted the subjects of the courses."

"The issue of regularity has played a central role in the theory of Partial Differential Equations almost since its inception, and despite the tremendous advances made it still remains a very fruitful research field. The course aimed to show the deep connections between these topics and to open new research directions through the contributions of leading experts in all of these fields."

Alabau-Boussouira, Fatiha
"It contains five major contributions and is connected to the CIME Course on Control of Partial Differential Equations that took place in Cetraro (CS, Italy), July 19 - 23, 2010. Specifically, it covers the stabilization of evolution equations, control of the Liouville equation, control in fluid mechanics, control and numerics for the wave equation, and Carleman estimates for elliptic and parabolic equations with application to control. Rivasseau, Vincent
"The book is based on the lectures given at the CIME school "Quantum many body systems" held in the summer of 2010. It provides a tutorial introduction to recent advances in the mathematics of interacting systems, written by four leading experts in the field, V. Rivasseau illustrates the applications of constructive Quantum Field Theory to 2D interacting electrons and their relation to quantum gravity, R. Seiringer describes a proof of Bose-Einstein condensation in the Gross-Pitaevski limit and explains the effects of rotating traps and the emergence of lattices of quantized vortices, J.-P. Solovej gives an introduction to the theory of quantum Coulomb systems and to the functional analytic methods used to prove their thermodynamic stability, finally, T. Spencer explains the supersymmetric approach to Anderson localization and its relation to the theory of random matrices. All the lectures are characterized by their mathematical rigor combined with physical insights."

"This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 7th IFIP WG 9.2, 9.6/11.7, 11.4, 11.6 International Summer School, held in Trento, Italy, in September 2011. The 20 revised papers were carefully selected from numerous submissions during two rounds of reviewing. The book also contains two invited talks. The papers are organized in topical sections on privacy metrics and comparison, policies, privacy transparency in the age of cloud computing, privacy for mobile applications, consumer privacy, privacy for online communities, privacy for eHealth and eID applications, privacy attacks and problems, and ethics."

Engquist, Bjorn, editor
"This book is a snapshot of current research in multiscale modeling, computations and applications. It covers fundamental mathematical theory, numerical algorithms as well as practical computational advice for analysing single and multiphysics models containing a variety of scales in time and space. Complex fluids, porous media flow and oscillatory dynamical systems are treated in some extra depth, as well as tools like analytical and numerical homogenization, and fast multipole method."

"Software engineering, is widely recognized as one of today's most exciting, stimulating, and profitable research areas, with a significant practical impact on the software industry and academia. The LASER school, held annually since 2004 on Elba Island, Italy, is intended for professionals from industry (engineers and managers) as well as university researchers, including PhD students. This book contains selected lecture notes from the LASER summer schools 2008-2010, which focused on concurrency and correctness in 2008,software testing in 2009, and empirical software engineering, in 2010.
