"This concise, pragmatic, pocket-sized book addresses neurological contributions to the diagnosis and management of dementia through a longitudinal examination of the work undertaken in a dedicated neurological dementia clinic. It covers the use of cognitive and non-cognitive screening instruments and their diagnostic utility and the use of other diagnostic investigations: neuroimaging, neurophysiology and neuropathology. The diagnostic mix is discussed in terms of both neuropsychological syndromes and neurological diagnoses, as is the use of conventional treatments for dementia and the impact of national directives (e.g. NICE, National Dementia Strategy) on day-to-day clinical practice. This book, is an illustrated, practical resource for medical professionals involved in the assessment and management of dementia patients. "

"Background: Indonesia is one of ten countries in the world with estimated number of dementia case exceeding a million. The number of elderly population living in Indonesian cities has exceeded the number in rural areas, but the country lacks data representing the urban population better related to modifiable risk factors for dementia, prevention of which is crucial. We aimed to identify the modifiable risk factors for dementia in Indonesia's urban population. Methods: this case-control study used five-year data in Indonesia's national general hospital by tracing back medical record books of individuals aged 60 years and above in geriatric medicine outpatient clinic to the first hospital visit. Statistical analyses included bivariate and multivariate analyses to adjust for confounding factors appropriately. Results: data from 345 patients suggested that the significant risk factors for dementia were history of smoking (adjusted OR 2.860, 95% CI 1.559-5.246), history of hearing loss (adjusted OR 7.962, 95% CI 3.534-17.941), history of depression (adjusted OR 12.473, 95% CI 2.533-61.417), hypertension (adjusted OR 1.751, 95% CI 1.006-3.048), and diabetes mellitus (adjusted OR 2.561, 95% CI 1.482-4.425). Dementia patients had longer median duration of diabetes mellitus (12 years) than elderly without dementia (9 years) before the diagnosis of dementia. Single point late-life underweight condition and low educational attainment were not associated with dementia in Indonesia's urban setting. The risk factors for vascular dementia were largely similar to those of dementia. Conclusion: in Indonesian urban population, history of smoking, hearing loss, depression, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus are associated with dementia."

Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia BPSD can be a challenging clinical manifestation to handle for caregiver. It can cause burden to the caregiver rsquo s health related quality of life both mentally and physically. Aim of this study was to investigate association between BPSD and caregiver rsquo s physical health. This study had a cross sectional design with fourty two family caregivers. Subjects were assessed with Neuropsychiatry Inventory NPI to evaluate the BPSD rsquo s severity and frequency of the person with dementia PWD and Short Form 36v2 SF 36 Bahasa Indonesia version to analyze the caregiver rsquo s physical health. There is no significant correlation between caregiver rsquo s physical health with total NPI score r 0.172, p 0.277 but, there is significant correlation between caregiver rsquo s physical health and total caregiver distress r 0.378, p 0.013 . Furthermore, total NPI score only correlates with one of four domain in physical health which is general health r 0.363, p 0.018 but, total distress had a significat weak moderate correlation with four physical health domains such as physical functioning r 0.436, p 0.002 , physical role r 0.328, p 0.017 , bodily pain r 0.403, p 0.004 , and general health r 0.262, p 0.047 . Caregiver rsquo s physical health is not associated directly with BPSD but more likely through the distress caused by BPSD that caregiver suffers."

Mnemonics is a technique used in making it easier to remember or memorize something. This concept has been widely applied in various fields, especially education. However, nowadays the concept of mnemonics is also widely applied in architecture to stimulate certain memories through special characteristics. The concept of mnemonics can potentially help the activities of the elderly dementia in inhabiting especially ADL (Activities of Daily Living) as an environmental therapy in forming navigation memory. Dementia itself is a progressive syndrome due to decreased brain function which commonly affects the elderly over 60 years old. Although still in a mild stage, people with dementia have shown symptoms of visuospatial disorders. This symptom is characterized by environmental disorientation, contrast and construction disorders, visual agnosia, to visual representation disorders, so it has the potential to interfere with the daily activities of dementia elderly even in the dwelling. Therefore, this thesis will discuss mnemonic concepts applied to visual experiences in dementia-friendly dwellings. Based on the studies carried out, the formation of mnemonic space in the elderly dementia residence requires certain characteristics determined by the vividness of the space elements as landmarks and the repetition of landmarks in forming the flow of activity. Observations were made on two dementia-friendly residential virtual applications as a case study - Dementia-Friendly Home (Australia) and 360° Virtual Reality Dementia-Friendly HDB Home Design (Singapore). Based on these observations, it was found that the toilet room, bedroom, dining room, and kitchen have the most vividness landmarks as an indication of the application of a fairly strong mnemonic concept. In addition, it was found that landmarking can form different flow patterns to evoke navigation memory, e.g. branch patterns and one-way patterns."
