"Nanoalloys : from fundamentals to emergent applications presents and discusses the major topics related to nanoalloys at a time when the literature on the subject remains scarce. Particular attention is paid to experimental and theoretical aspects under the form of broad reviews covering the most recent developments. The book is organized into 11 chapters covering the most fundamental aspects of nanoalloys related to their synthesis and characterization, as well as their theoretical study. Aspects related to their thermodynamics and kinetics are covered as well. The coverage then moves to more specific topics, including optics, magnetism and catalysis, and finally to biomedical applications and the technologically relevant issue of self-assembly.
With no current single reference source on the subject, the work is invaluable for researchers as the nanoscience field moves swiftly to full monetization.

"The technological exploitation of graphene can be considered to be based on four fundamental interconnected wide topics, growth and synthesis methods, nano-structuring and tailoring of graphene properties, structural and physical characterization, and device design and applications. This proceedings book presents the results highlighted at GraphITA 2011, a multidisciplinary and intersectorial European workshop on synthesis, characterization and technological exploitation of graphene. The workshop realised on 15-18 May at Gran Sasso National Laboratories (Assegi-L'Aquila, Italy) has brought together scientists and engineers working on different technological uses of graphene in a multidisciplinary and multisectorial (academia/industry) environment."

""Callister and Rethwisch?s Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, 4th Edition continues to take the integrated approach to the organization of topics. That is, one specific structure, characteristic, or property type at a time is discussed for all three basic material types -- metals, ceramics, and polymeric materials. This order of presentation allows for the early introduction of non-metals and supports the engineer?s role in choosing materials based upon their characteristics. Also discussed are new, cutting-edge materials. Using clear, concise terminology that is familiar to students, Fundamentals presents material at an appropriate level for both student comprehension and instructors who may not have a materials background"-- Provided by publisher."

"This thesis addresses the fabrication and investigation of the optical response of gold nanoparticle arrays supported on insulating LiF(110) nanopatterned substrates. Motivated by the discovery of the intriguing effects that arise when electromagnetic radiation interacts with metallic nanostructures, the thesis focuses on the application of bottom-up approaches to the fabrication of extended-area plasmonic nanostructures, and the optimization of their optical response.
By developing a sophisticated effective-medium model and comparing the experimental findings with model calculations, the author explores the role of the interparticle electromagnetic coupling and array dimensionality on the collective plasmonic behavior of the array, giving insights into the physical mechanisms governing the optical response."

"This second edition of Nanocrystalline materials provides updated information on the development and experimental work on the synthesis, properties, and applications of nanocrystalline materials. Nanocrystalline materials with new functionalities show great promise for use in industrial applications, such as reinforcing fillers in novel polymer composites and substantial progress has been made in the past decade in their synthesis and processing.
This book focuses primarily on 1D semiconducting oxides and carbon nanotubes, 2D graphene sheets and 0D nanoparticles (metals and inorganic semiconductors). These materials are synthesized under different compositions, shapes and structures, exhibiting different chemical, physical and mechanical properties from their bulk counterparts.
This second edition presents new topics relevant to the fast-paced development of nanoscience and nanotechnology, including the synthesis and application of nanomaterials for drug delivery, energy, printed flash memory, and luminescent materials. With contributions from leading experts, this book describes the fundamental theories and concepts that illustrate the complexity of developing novel nanocrystalline materials, and reviews current knowledge in the synthesis, microstructural characterization, physical and mechanical behavior, and application of nanomaterials."

Gold (Au) is a metal transition element which has been developed in various research field, especially as therapeutic and diagnostic agent. Gold nanoparticles were synthesized by three variations, reducing hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (HAuCl4) using gum arabic (GA-AuNP); reducing hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (HAuCl4) using sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and gum arabic as a stabilizing agent (GA-AuNP); and reducing hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (HAuCl4) using NaBH4 (AuNP). Those nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, AFM, and PSA. Antioxidant activity of gold nanoparticles were also measured by using the DPPH method. Physical stability of gold nanoparticles was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometer during 5 weeks at room temperature. The results showed that the spherical gold nanoparticles, having a particle size 6.52 ± 0.66 nm; 4,045 ± 0,99 nm ; and 55.82 ± 39.87 nm. percentage inhibition of 74.39%; 73.51%; and 72.63%. Stability test showed that the GA-AuNp still physically stable for 5 weeks."
