"This article examines the relationship between career system and ability development
of candidates for next generation business managers. Two research questions
are set, and they are as follows; 1) Are there abilities unique to business managers
those are irrelevant to any specific function and those are not expected by
Intellectual Skills Theory? If they are, then their contents and development process
should be identified. 2) Do the candidates pursue their specialists' careers with wide
ranging careers or develop their generalists' one through multi-functional jobs experiences
among which there is no complementarity, or both of the two exist? An interview
research on the relationship between the learning contents through the 22
candidates' careers in a large electronic component company and opportunities to
learn is conducted for the purpose of finding the answers to the two research questions.
The results are as follows; The 129 learning contents are found and almost two
thirds of the contents are abilities irrelevant to a specific function such as managerial
one in spite of their wide range careers within one or two functions. Identified managerial
abilities are for coordinating with other departments, understanding situations
of entirety of their firm, judging based on their firm's strength and weakness, and
bearing trust from other employees and networks within their firm. The process of
mastering management abilities identified in this research is analogical learning based
on comparison that is triggered by difference recognition to their work triggered by
a personnel move. And this process is not expected by Intellectual Skills Theory.
Then the concurrent learning hypothesis is proposed that recognition of difference
triggers by a personnel move encourages two types of learning. One of those is
cause-effect learning that develops uncertainty processing ability unique to a specific
job which is supposed by Intellectual Skills Theory, and the other is analogical learning
based on comparison between the two jobs that a personnel move brings in that
is not relevant to any specific function."

"his article seeks first of all to gain an accurate picture of the types of expectations that individual Japanese regular employees have toward their jobs and careers, which we will approach through the concept of “career orientation.” Secondly, it seeks to analyze the extent to which opportunities for job ad- vancement and internal promotion and regular employees’ working styles are diversified in relation to their career orientations. Thirdly, it aims to assess levels of job satisfaction among groups with different career orientations. And finally, it seeks to draw some implications from the findings related to the featured theme of “diversification of regular employees.”
Our findings are as follows: for one thing, the career-orientations of em- ployees are indeed diversified. Their opportunities for job advancement and internal promotion are also diversified corresponding to their career orienta- tions. Also, there are correlations between the length of working hours and ca- reer orientation, but only among female employees. In addition, it was found that job satisfaction is lowest among male employees who place a priority on a working style that emphasizes balance between work and private or family life. Based on these findings, we have examined the significance of introducing systems that formally establish multiple employment categories among regular employees to accommodate their different career patterns and working styles according to their diversified career orientations."

Disertasi ini membahas verbalisasi prinsip kepemimpinan yang terdapat dalam debat calon presiden dan wakil presiden Indonesia tahun 2014 dengan memadukan pendekatan analisis wacana dan pragmatik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan tuturan yang mencerminkan prinsip kepemimpinan, menginterpretasikan kesesuaian strategi yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan tuturan kepemimpinan, dan menguraikan pola argumen sebagai dasar untuk menentukan kesahihan tuturan kepemimpinan. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan kualitatif dengan data yang dikuantifikasi untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian. Debat yang berlangsung selama lima putaran dan melibatkan empat calon pemimpin digunakan sebagai sumber data. Pertama, melalui analisis proposisi mikro dan makro, peneliti menemukan bahwa tiap penutur menghasilkan bentuk tuturan kepemimpinan yang berbeda antara yang satu dengan yang lain, baik dari aspek diksi maupun pola. Kedua, hasil dari analisis ilokusi menunjukkan bahwa pilihan strategi yang digunakan oleh penutur dalam menyampaikan prinsip kepemimpinan disesuaikan dengan maksud dari tuturan kepemimpinan. Ketiga, analisis pola argumen dan analisis kesahihan tuturan memperlihatkan bahwa tidak semua tuturan kepemimpinan dapat disebut sahih. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan melalui kelengkapan argumen-argumen yang hadir menyertai tuturan kepemimpinan di dalam debat. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa perbedaan bentuk tuturan kepemimpinan, strategi penyampaian tuturan kepemimpinan, dan kesahihan tuturan kepemimpinan merupakan petunjuk yang menyatakan perbedaan model kepemimpinan.


This dissertation discusses the verbalisation of leadership principles in the debate of Indonesian president and vice president candidates in 2014 by combining discourse analysis and pragmatic approach. The aims of this research are to find speeches that reflect leadership principles, to intrepret the compatibility of the strategis used to deliver leadership utterances, and to dissect the pattern of argument as the foundation to determine the felicity of leadership utterances. To achieve those aims, qualitative method accompanied with quantified data is applied to analyse the data on candidate of leaders’ utterances. The debate which was held five rounds and involved four candidates of leaders, is used as source of data. First, using the analysis of micro and macro propositions, the researcher finds that each speaker produced different forms of leadership utterances. Second, the result of illocutionary acts analysis shows that the choices of strategy used by the speakers to deliver leadership principles were adjusted to the intention of leadership utterances. Third, patterns of arguments analysis and felicity conditions analysis reveal that not all utterances are felicitous as demonstrated from the completeness of arguments for leadership utterances. Based on those findings, this research concludes that different forms of leadership utterances, strategies used to deliver leadership utterances, and felicity of leadership utterances are the markers showing different models of leadership.
