"ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap hubungan antara penguasaan kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia pelajar Madrasah Aliyah MA dengan kemampuan membaca bahasa Inggris mereka serta untuk mengetahui sikap mereka terhadap kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran yaitu kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 48 pelajar Madrasah Aliyah Negeri MAN Muara Labuh, Solok Selatan. Teori yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah teori kosakata kognat Park dan Dronjic: 2013 . Tes kosakata dan tes membaca bahasa Inggris dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara tingkat penguasaan kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia dengan kemampuan membaca bahasa Inggris mereka. Untuk mengetahui sikap pelajar terhadap kosakata kognat diberikan instrumen berupa kuesioner dan stimulated recall. Dari hasil olah data penelitian ditemukan bahwa nilai kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia pelajar MA masih sangat rendah dengan nilai rata-rata 43 dari total nilai yaitu 100. Sementara itu, nilai rata-rata tes kemampuan membaca bahasa Inggris berada pada kategori kurang dengan rata-rata 47 dari total nilai 100.Setelah dianalisis, terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia dengan kemampuan membaca untuk pemahaman bahasa Inggris. Terakhir, Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner, juga diperoleh bahwa para pelajar MA memiliki sikap yang positif terhadap kosakata kognat bahasa Inggris-Indonesia.

ABSTRACTThis research aimed at identifying correlation of English Indonesias Cognate rsquo s Mastery of Madrasah Aliyah Students and their reading comprehension skills in English and also knowing the attitude of the students toward English Indonesian cognate. The research used a mix method, quantitative and qualitative. The samples were 48 students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri MAN Muara Labuh Solok Selatan, Sumatera Barat. The theory used in this research is the theory of cognates Park and Dronjic 2013 . Vocabulary test and reading comprehension test were conducted to identify student rsquo s mastery of English Indonesian cognates and English reading comprehension. A questionnaire was also distributed to know students rsquo attitude toward English Indonesian cognates. The finding showed that the students rsquo score on the cognate test was low with an average of 43 from total score which is 100. Meanwhile, the score of English reading comprehension test was also low with an average of 47. The analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between the mastery of English Indonesian cognates and English reading comprehension skills . Based on the questionnaire, it was found that the students have a positive attitude toward English Indonesian cognates."

"Reading journal is one way to record students' independent learning based on text they read. This study was conducted to find out the students' level of reading comprehension through some notes written in the reading journal, the extent to which the activity of writing reading journals improved students reading comprehension, whether the students got benefit from reading journal. There were 104 respondents coming from four different departments in Bina Nusantara University were asked to read a text related to the subject they learned in a certain session. Then they were assigned o write a journal that records the things they had read. When this task was finished lecturer ran a quiz containing related questions to check whether they really understood the content of the text. Afterwards, students were to fill in a questionnaire regarding their opinion on the impact of the reading journal toward their reading comprehension. The findings indicate that more than half of the participants appear to understand the material well, and the task plays a certain role in improving students' understanding. The most crucial thing is that most students think they get benefit by writing the reading journal. "

"Kurikulum 2013 K13 yang sedang berlaku saat ini mengharuskan siswa SMA kelas X yang baru masuk tahun ajaran baru untuk langsung melakukan peminatan sebelum proses pembelajaran dimulai. Salah satu cara menentukan kelompok peminatan ialah dengan menggunakan tes psikologis atau tes peminatan. Selain itu, metode belajar dalam kurikulum 2013 pun secara tidak langsung memaksa siswa SMA untuk lebih aktif membaca materi pelajaran secara mandiri karena guru mengurangi pemberian materi pelajaran dengan metode ceramah. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dapat dikatakan bahwa kemampuan pemahaman bacaan merupakan hal yang utama bagi siswa SMA saat ini, sehingga diperlukan adanya tes psikologis, khususnya tes inteligensi yang mengukur pemahaman bacaan sebagai alat bantu penetapan kelompok peminatan. Alat ukur ini dibuat berdasarkan teori inteligensi CHC. Sampel dari uji coba ini ialah 97 siswa SMA kelas X dari berbagai SMA di daerah Jakarta dan Depok. Alat ukur terdiri dari 15 item dan menggunakan multiple-choice dengan 4 pilihan jawaban. Hasil uji reliabilitas menunjukkan bahwa Tes RC tidak memiliki konsistensi antar item dalam mengukur pemahaman bacaan dengan koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,61. Hasil uji validitas konstruk menunjukkan bahwa Tes RC valid dalam mengukur konstruk pemahaman bacaan dengan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,323 p < 0,01 . Hasil uji analisis item menunjukkan bahwa item-item pada alat ukur belum dapat membedakan individu yang memiliki kemampuan pemahaman bacaan yang tinggi dengan yang rendah. Norma yang digunakan ialah scaled score dengan M=10 dan SD=3.

The current curriculum K13 requires new high school students to choose a major when entering the new academic year before the learning process begins. One way to determine the major is to use psychological testing. In addition, the learning method in the current curriculum also indirectly forced high school students to more actively read the subject matter independently. It happens because the teacher reduces the provision of subject matter by lecture method. Based on that, it can be said that reading comprehension is the main ability needed by high school students nowadays, so it takes a psychological testing that measures reading comprehension as a tool for majoring.

This intelligence testing construction is based on CHC theory. The sample of this trial involves 97 high school students of 10th grader from various high schools in Jakarta and Depok area. The intelligence testing consists of 15 items and uses multiple choice with 4 choices. The reliability statistic indicates that RC test does not have inter item consistency in measuring reading comprehension with reliability coefficient equals to 0.61. The result of construct validity shows that RC test is valid for measuring reading comprehension with correlation coefficient equals to 0,323."

"ABSTRAKPada penelitian ini intervensi yang dilakukan untuk meningkatkan reading comprehension dan reading self efficacy adalah dengan memberikan pelatihan pemahaman bacaan melalui self expalanation reading training (SERT) sehingga diharapkan siswa dapat meningkatkan kemampuannya dalam menjelaskan isi bacaan dengan menggunakan berbagai strategi memahami bacaan yang terdapat di SERT. Selain itu, memberikan pelatihan memahami bacaan dengan SERT dapat membuat siswa mengembangkan kemampuan untuk meregulasi proses memahami bacaannya secara mandiri sehingga siswa merasakan pengalaman keberhasilan dalam memahami bacaan ekspositori. Penelitian ini menggunakan single subject design pada siswa dengan pemilihan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Setelah dilakukan analisis perbandingan hasil pre-test dan post-test, diketahui bahwa melatih pemahaman bacaan melalui self explanation reading training yang diberikan efektif dalam meningkatkan reading comprehension dan reading self efficacy pada siswa kelas 4 SD.

ABSTRACTThis research using intervention in order to improve reading comprehension and reading self-efficacy by providing training through self explanation reading training (SERT) so that student is expected to improve its ability to explain the content of the reading materials using a variety of reading comprehension strategies contained in SERT. In addition, providing a training activity to understand the reading materials using SERT can make the student develop the ability to regulate the process of reading on their own understanding, so that student experienced success in expository reading comprehension. This research uses a single subject design with the selection of the student sample using purposive sampling. After analyzing the results between pre-test and post-test results, it is understood that the given reading comprehension through self-explanation reading training proved as effective in improving reading comprehension and reading self-efficacy on fourth grade elementary student."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian kuasi eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode pemelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD pada kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks recount siswa kelas VIII dan persepsi siswa di kelompok eksperimen terhadap metode ini. Penelitian ini melibatkan satu kelas eksperimen yang terdiri dari 35 siswa dan satu kelas kontrol yang terdiri dari 33 siswa yang diambil menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Untuk memperoleh data, pre-test, kuis, post-test, kuesioner, dan wawancara digunakan. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan ANOVA one way pada nilai post-test, hasil Fhitung 4.730 lebih besar dari Ftabel 3.99. Hasil ini menyatakan bahwa H0 ditolak dan HA diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai kedua kelas setelah mendapatkan perlakuan yang berbeda. Berdasarkan hal ini, peneliti menyarankan penggunaan metode pemelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas VIII.

ABSTRACTThe aims of this quasi experimental research were to investigate the effectiveness of cooperative learning method type STAD on the 8th graders' reading comprehension of recount texts and to find out the experimental group students' perception towards this type of method. This research involved one experimental class which consisted of 35 students and one control class which consisted of 33 students that were taken by using purposive sampling technique. To obtain the data, pre-test, quiz, post-test, questionnaire, and interview were employed. Based on the hypothesis test using ANOVA one way on post-test scores, it was found that Fcount 4.730 was greater than Ftable 3.99. The findings indicated that H0 was rejected and HA was accepted. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference between both classes' scores after gaining different treatments. In addition, most of the experimental group students had positive perception towards STAD. Based on this, the researcher recommends the use of cooperative learning method type STAD to improve the 8th graders' reading comprehension."
