"Motor arus searah adalah sebuah mesin arus searah yang mengubah energi listrik arus searah menjadi energi mekanik dengan memanfaatkan prinsip induksi elektromagnetik. Motor arus searah banyak digunakan dalam berbagai aplikasi karena motor jenis ini mudah dalam pengendaliannya. Salah satu jenis motor arus searah adalah motor arus searah seri. Motor jenis ini mempunyai karakteristik torsi start yang tinggi menjadikan motor jenis ini banyak digunakan dalam berbagai industri terutama untuk traksi. Namun, perubahan beban motor dapat menurunkan kecepatan sudut yang besar. Sehingga pengendalian kecepatan sudut motor arus searah seri memiliki peran yang sangat penting dalam penggunaannya. Untuk mengatur kecepatan motor maka digunakan metode pengaturan tegangan. DC chopper adalah salah satu cara untuk mengatur tegangan yang mencatu motor. Namun metode dc chopper seringkali menimbulkan ripple arus yang ditimbulkan oleh dc chopper itu sendiri.
Untuk mengatasi masalah ripple ini digunakan sistem dengan frekuensi tinggi. Sistem dc chopper menggunakan thyristor jenis GTO yang mampu melakukan switching pada frekuensi tinggi. Dengan frekuensi tinggi, ripple yang ditimbulkan akan semakin kecil. Untuk switching GTO dilakukan oleh PWM, dengan mengatur besarnya frekuensi PWM maka diperoleh frekuensi switching yang diinginkan. Dengan metode tersebut maka dibuat model pengendalian pengendali kecepatan motor arus searah seri menggunakan dc chopper pada beban yang berubah-ubah dengan ripple seminimal mungkin.
DC motor is a machine that converts direct current electrical energy into mechanical energy by utilizing the principle of electromagnetic induction. DC motors are widely used in various applications because of motor easily in control. One type of DC motor are DC series motor. This type of motor has high starting torque characteristics, make this type of motor is widely used in various industries, especially for traction. However, changes in motor load can reduce speed. So the speed control of DC motor series have a very important role in its use. To set the motor speed voltage regulation method is used. DC chopper is one way to regulate the supply voltage of the motor. But the chopper dc methods often cause ripple currents caused by dc chopper itself. To overcome the problem of ripple is used with high frequency systems. So that, the dc chopper system using GTO thyristor types are capable of switching at high frequencies. With high frequency, ripple generated will be smaller. For the GTO switching performed by the PWM, PWM frequency by adjusting the magnitude of the switching frequency can be obtained as desired. With these methods, it made the model controlling the DC series motor speed control using a dc chopper on the variation load with a small ripple."
