"Wireless power transmission is being investigated as a means to operate tiny medical devices such as the capsular endoscope, which is able to exist for a long period during diagnostic procedures within the body. In this paper, we examine the wireless power transmission to a capsular endoscope by electromagnetic waves to show its usability for medical applications. A modified helical antenna inside the endoscope is proposed as a power receiving antenna, operating at 915 MHz. By calculating a maximum received power in the stomach using such antenna, the results show that adequate power can be well received."

Wireless power transfer (WPT) has many applications especially for elctronic devie charging such as biomedic implants, low powered devices (smartphone and smart watch), and high powered devices (electronic vehicles). Although, a WPT with simple design that provides decent efficiency is still a challenge because most of developed WPT has complexity added to its circuit with the addition of DC-DC converters such as Class E converters. This research presents a WPT using IPT method as a bridge between transmitter and receiver which coils are made by hands. The simulation with ideal components resulted with an average efficiency of 77.25%, simulation with non-ideal comonents resulting in 46.17%, and the designed circuit on a protoboard with 41.62% average efficiency with the highest point in 45.90%."

ABSTRACTThis thesis has presented a rectifier design for wireless power transfer applications with novel topology as an initial study. This topology combines and modifies the adaptive reconfigurable rectifier with the active class E rectifier. Modifications made were to replace the NMOS switch in the active class E rectifier to PMOS in the active class E rectifier topology and change the number of diodes and transistors used in the adaptive reconfigurable rectifier topology. Switching switches to PMOS increases efficiency and produces better Waveform output. Increasing the number of diodes and the number of transistors prevents the diodes from reaching the breakdown voltage, thereby increasing efficiency and allowing the circuit to maintain and increase efficiency at higher input values. The proposed circuit consists of the PMOS IRF9Z24 switch on the active class E rectifier and 3 diodes -3 transistors on the adaptive reconfigurable rectifier, which has an efficiency of 76% at 5 V."

"This book addresses the design challenges in near-field wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, such as high efficiency, compact size, and long transmission range. It presents new low-profile designs for the TX/RX structures using different shapes of defected ground structures (DGS) like (H, semi-H, and spiral-strips DGS). Most near-field WPT systems depend on magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) using 3-D wire loops or helical antennas, which are often bulky. This, in turn, poses technical difficulties in their application in small electronic devices and biomedical implants. To obtain compact structures, printed spiral coils (PSCs) have recently emerged as a candidate for low-profile WPT systems. However, most of the MRC WPT systems that use PSCs have limitations in the maximum achievable efficiency due to the feeding method. Inductive feeding constrains the geometric dimensions of the main transmitting (TX)/receiving (RX) resonators, which do not achieve the maximum achievable unloaded quality factor. This book will be of interest to researchers and professionals working on WPT-related problems."
