Gloor, Peter A.
"Sociometrics and Human Relationships translates the latest academic research into practical business strategies and techniques as well as actionable insights, providing a wealth of examples for social network analysis and predicting trends. Gloor illustrates how to improve organizational performance by optimizing communication and collaboration through email. Based on Collaborative Innovation Networks courses which have been taught for over a decade to students forming virtual teams across a number of universities, Gloor shows readers how to leverage virtual collaborative creativity in the Internet age, and helps them understand and apply the dynamics of online communication via a variety of tools. Gloor has also created a tool that analyses all types of social media such as: Twitter, Wikipedia, online blogs and Facebook as well as email or Skype logs to predict election outcomes, perception and strength of brands, customer and employment satisfaction, or fraudulent behavior. Gloor explains how to use his tool, Condor, to visualize, monitor and manage brands, products and topics online, as well as analyzing organizations through their email networks. "

The study of life measurement has been developed over the decades. Social well-being has become a measurement that quantifies people quality of life-based on the social character of their community. The previous study shows that structural and cultural factors affect social well-being. By using the International Comparative Surveys on Lifestyle and Values (ICSLV) data set provided by SWB Study Consortium, this study strives to connect the gap of that study with
examining several independent variables as determinant factors of social well-being such as stratification, gender discrimination, and religious capital. Social well-being conditions in conceptual of generations as another novelty of this study. The findings show that religious capital affects social well-being more than the others and then followed by gender discrimination. Contrary to those conditions, stratification shows weak correlation. Religious capital more effects in Baby Boomers generation, and the others more effectively in Generation Z.

This thesis aims to explain the role of actors in social networks to compete for access and control over valuable resources in the form of social assistance programs. As a perceived poor area due to landscape change due to the masive sedimentation, Ujung Alang Village in Segara Anakan Cilacap becomes a remote area for various community and community-based social empowerment programs. The actors who have power or not in the community, seek to gain valuable resources by gaining legitimacy from the community. Social controls run by actors over the management of social assistance programs, involving social networks, established and owned power. This study also shows that a functional structural perspective rich in explanations of the value system and norms can not be used to describe complex and heterogeneous communities in a variety of interpretations and interests. While the social networking approach is able to capture the cultural changes that occur very quickly and dynamically. The study used a descriptive social network approach with three stages: 1) determining the star actors; 2) determining other actors and social relations; 3) conducting focused discussions as well as in the ex post facto framework."

"Leading scholars in the field of social networks from diverse disciplines present the first systematic and comprehensive collection of current theories and empirical research on the informal connections that individuals have for support, help, and information from other people. Expanding on concepts originally formulated by Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman, this seminal work will find an essential place with educators and students in the fields of social networks, rational choice theory, institutions, and the socioeconomics of poverty, labor markets, social psychology, and race.
The volume is divided into three parts. The first segment clarifies social capital as a concept and explores its theoretical and operational bases. Additional segments provide brief accounts that place the development of social capital in the context of the family of capital theorists, and identify some critical but controversial perspectives and statements regarding social capital in the literature. The editors then make the argument for the network perspective, why and how such a perspective can clarify controversies and advance our understanding of a whole range of instrumental and expressive outcomes.
Social Capital further provides a forum for ongoing research programs initiated by social scientists working at the crossroads of formal theory and new methods. These scholars and programs share certain understandings and approaches in their analyses of social capital. They argue that social networks are the foundation of social capital. Social networks simultaneously capture individuals and social structure, thus serving as a vital conceptual link between actions and structural constraints, between micro- and macro-level analyses, and between relational and collective dynamic processes. They are further cognizant of the dual significance of the "structural" features of the social networks and the "resources" embedded in the networks as defining elements of social capital"
