"This book is a practical manual of reptile field ecology and conservation and it brings together a distinguished, international group of reptile researchers to provide a review of the many new and exciting techniques used to study reptiles and to track their conservation status and population trends. The book is split into six parts which, following an introduction to reptiles, focus on: the study of individuals; sampling techniques; reptiles in the community; experimental applications, physiological ecology, and genetics; and trends analysis and conservation options. Separate chapters emphasize the application of field and laboratory techniques for achieving an understanding of reptile ecology, behaviour, physiology, and conservation. The book demonstrates how these subjects can be complemented by information related to morphology, population genetics, molecular techniques, veterinary medicine, statistical/modelling approaches, welfare issues, and the utility of reptiles as study animals."

"More than two decades after Michael Rutter (1987) published his summary of protective processes associated with resilience, researchers continue to report definitional ambiguity in how to define and operationalize positive development under adversity. The problem has been partially the result of a dominant view of resilience as something individuals have, rather than as a process that families, schools, communities and governments facilitate. Because resilience is related to the presence of social risk factors, there is a need for an ecological interpretation of the construct that acknowledges the importance of people?s interactions with their environments. The social ecology of resilience provides evidence for this ecological understanding of resilience in ways that help to resolve both definition and measurement problems."

"Handbook of Clinical Techniques in Pediatric Dentistry provides the clinician with an increased level of expertise and skills for timely identification and intervention for various presentations in the developing dentition. It also clearly describes procedures for treatment in the primary and young permanent dentitions, including pulp therapy for primary and young permanent molars, extractions, space maintenance, and more. The most commonly encountered treatment needs are discussed with the goal of increasing clinician and staff confidence while decreasing chair-time and stress.
With an emphasis on practical instruction, Handbook of Clinical Techniques in Pediatric Dentistry is ideal for pediatric and general dentists, pediatric residents, and dental students taking clinical pediatric courses."

"Variable speed drives and the associated electrical motors play a central role in industry as well as the buildings in which we live, work and are entertained. They are arguably the most potent tool we have in the quest to save energy and thereby reduce our carbon footprint. Their rate of development has been rapid and today?s product is in many ways unrecognisable for its ancestors of even twenty years ago. Development continues apace in the components used in the products, the products themselves and the ways in which the products are used."

This book contains a great deal of practical information for drives and industrial engineers who use motors and drives. It is a comprehensive guide to the technology underlying drives and motors. It contains sufficient theory to give both user and student an insight into the design of these components and thereby the constraints and opportunities that exist. It has been radically revised and expanded from the previous edition to contain much new information."

"A state-of-the-art review of key topics in medical image perception science and practice, including associated techniques, illustrations and examples. This second edition contains extensive updates and substantial new content. Written by key figures in the field, it covers a wide range of topics including signal detection, image interpretation and advanced image analysis (e.g. deep learning) techniques for interpretive and computational perception. It provides an overview of the key techniques of medical image perception and observer performance research, and includes examples and applications across clinical disciplines including radiology, pathology and oncology. A final chapter discusses the future prospects of medical image perception and assesses upcoming challenges and possibilities, enabling readers to identify new areas for research. Written for both newcomers to the field and experienced researchers and clinicians, this book provides a comprehensive reference for those interested in medical image perception as means to advance knowledge and improve human health."
