"A lot of different ethnic communities in Lombok have been settled for centuries. A discussion of the self in the local context is often framed in political identity. Meanwhile, a uniqueness of particular cultures no longer have fixed meaning rather than fluid signs. People response to the relation of signified and signifier polysemous as mentioned in gendang beleq. The paper questions the process of signification in the struggle of meaning in Lombok, where the distinctives of representation becomes crucial for lot of the groups. Gendang beleq is a performance in which its identity interrogeted by various groups. The paper shows how new meaning is materialized in traditions."

"Tesis ini menjelaskan pengaruh pengubahan (recasts) terhadap konsistensi penggunaan kata kerja berketerangan waktu lampau dalam penulisan teks rekon. Jurnal dialog dipilih sebagai aktifitas komunikatif sebagai wadah interaksi antara 13 siswa bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing (EFL) dan seorang pengajar sekaligus peneliti. Melalui jurnal tersebut, siswa diminta menulis kegiatan lampau mereka dan tulisan tersebut dikomentari oleh pengajar. Dalam komentarnya, pengajar memberikan pengubahan pada bentuk kata kerja lampau tidak berterima siswa. Terdapat tujuh entri jurnal selama perlakuan diberikan. Tiga jurnal entri pertama menerima pengubahan tanpa penguatan, sisanya menerima pengubahan dengan penguatan. Setiap entri jurnal diukur tingkat konsistensinya untuk melihat perkembangan konsistensi siswa. Terdapat pre- dan post test yang juga diukur akurasinya untuk melihat dampak perlakuan pada siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengubahan, terutama apabila diberi penguatan, memengaruhi konsistensi siswa terhadap penggunaan kata kerja berketerangan waktu lampau. Pengubahan juga memicu siswa untuk memodifikasi keluaran (output) mereka ke dalam bentuk yang lebih berterima dalam bahasa target.

This thesis explains the impact of recasts on students consistency in the use of past tensed verbs in writing recount texts. In this thesis, a journal dialogue is chosen as the communicative activity that facilitates the interactions between 13 EFL students and a teacher (the researcher). Through their journals, the students were asked to write about their past activities. The teacher gave comments on every journal the students had written. Through the comments given, the researcher recasted the errors made by the students. Each student wrote seven journal entries in total during the treatment. The first three journals received recast without enhancement while the rest received recast with enhancement. The consistency in the use of past tense in each journal entry was measured. Students were given pre-and post tests to see the impact of the treatment on their writing. The result of the research shows that recasts, especially when they are enhanced, affect students consistency in the use of past tense in writing recount texts and also encourage most students to modify their output with target-like patterns."

"ABSTRAKThis study is a descriptive-qualitative study with an embedded-case study research design. The purposes of the study are (1) to describe strategies decided to translate comics entitled The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics into Indonesian, 2) to describe the effect of the strategies on the accuracy in content and acceptability of translated text of The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics. The data of the research are English comics entitled The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics and their translation in Indonesian, selected using purposive sampling technique. Two methods of data collection were employed: content analysis used to obtain data from both source and target texts, and questionnaire was used to gather data about the accuracy in content, and acceptability. The accuracy in content and acceptabilty of the translated text were rated by three raters. The results of data analysis show that: (1) there are five strategies used to translate The Very Best of Donald Duck Comics into Indonesian namely structural adjustment, cultural term borrowing, adaptation, maintenance, and deletion, (2) the chosen strategies contribute positively to the accuracy in content and acceptability of the translated texts. The average score for accuracy in content and acceptability is 1.15. This average score means that the source text has been accurately rendered into the target language; the target is easy to understand as determined by the raters and it needs not restructured."
