"The recent studies have concluded that older adults with declining health conditions tend to have a negative self perception of aging. On the other hand, social relationship of people nearby can improve self perceptions of aging. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between perceived social support and self-perception of aging in older adults with chronic illness. This study hypothesized that perceived social support correlates positively and significantly with self perception of aging. The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is used to measure perceived social support and Attitudes Toward Own Aging (ATOA) is used to measure self perception of aging. 127 older adults are involved in this study, consisting of 46 males (36,2%) and 81 females (63,8%). Based on statistical analysis using Pearson Correlation, it is found that perceived social support correlate positively and significantly with self perception of aging (r=0,250; n=127; p<0,01, one tailed).

"This research was conducted to study the relationship between self perception of aging and healthy lifestyle in older adults. This study hypothesized that self perception of aging correlates positively with healthy lifestyle. In order to understand that hypothesis, researcher has studied in 120 older adults using accidental sampling. Self perception of aging is measured using Attitude Toward Own Aging (ATOA) from Lawton (1975; in Mosser, Spagnoli, & Santos-Eggimann, 2011) and healthy lifestyle is measured using Health Enhancement Lifestyle Profile-Screener (HELP-Screener) from Hwang (2010). The result showed that the Pearson Correlation indicates self perception of aging correlates positively and significantly with healthy lifestyle. Some consideration in term of validity and reliability are still occured in this study. Therefore, it is suggested to conduct item analysis and give additional instruction related time.

personal growth, purpose in life, positive relations with others, environmental
mastery, dan autonomy (Ryff & Keyes, 1995), sedangkan self-perception of aging
sub skala Attitudes Toward Own Aging dari Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale.

ABSTRACT
This study aims to investigate the relationship between psychological well-being and selfperception
of aging on elderly with chronic illness. Psychological well-being is defined as
welfare that consists of self-acceptance, personal growth, purpose in life, positive relations
with others, environmental mastery, and autonomy (Ryff & Keyes, 1995), whereas selfperception
of aging is an individual perspective towards the aging process they experience
and the subjective attitude of elderly regarding their own aging process (Lawton, 1975 in
Kim, Jang & Chiriboga, 2012). Previous studies assumed self-perception of aging as one
of the predictor of psychological well-being, but there is not much of attention to see the
correlation between them especially in Indonesian older adults with chronic illness. 110
older adults with chronic illness are involved in this study using Ryff’s Scale of
Psychological Well-Being (RSPWB) and Attitudes Toward Own Aging sub scale of
Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale and it is found that psychological well-being and
self-perception of aging correlates positively and significantly (r = .203; p<.05)."
