"Opposition to apartheid was one of the great moments in postwar history. Its success remains a symbol of a progressive global community. An African volk looks at this phenomenon from the other side. It explores how the apartheid state in South Africa sought to maintain power as the world of white empire gave way to a new postcolonial environment that repudiated racial hierarchy. Drawing upon archival research across Southern Africa and beyond, as well as over fifty hours of interviews with leading figures from the apartheid order, An African volk shows how instead of simply resisting decolonization and African nationalism in the name of white supremacy, the white power structure looked to hijack and invert the norms of the new global era to relegitimize its rule, break out of isolation, and secure international acceptance. Situated at the nexus of African, decolonization, and cold war history, An African Volk tells the story of how the architects of apartheid used statecraft to redefine whiteness and promote a fresh ideological basis for their rule. In doing so, it offers new global and local perspectives on the apartheid state and illuminates the complexities and contradictions of the postcolonial project. Equally, it shows how the regimes outreach to Africa both reflected and fueled heated debates within Afrikaner society over the relationship between race, nation, and state, exposing a deeply divided polity in the midst of massive economic, cultural, and social change."

Esakova, Nataliya
"Nataliya Esakova performs an analysis of the interdependencies and the nature of cooperation between energy producing, consuming and transit countries focusing on the gas sector. For the analysis the theoretical framework of the interdependence theory by Robert O. Keohane and Joseph S. Nye and the international regime theory are applied to the recent developments within the gas relationship between the European Union and Russia in the last decade. The objective of the analysis is to determine, whether a fundamental regime change in terms of international regime theory is taking place, and, if so, which regime change explanation model in terms of interdependence theory is likely to apply."

This study aims to analyze the association of health status and labor force participation, by using self reported health status and objective measure of health to estimate the value of health of workers aged 40 64. This study uses data from Indonesia Family Life Survey IFLS 2007 and 2014. 2 Stages Least Square estimation using probit and ordered probit are used for the estimation.
It is found that health has a negative effect on labor force participation. People who are unhealthy are less likely to participate in the labor force. Also, the effect of health on labor force participation is found to be larger and significant in the male group. Lastly, the effect of the labor force on health is found to be positive, as those who are participating are more likely to be in healthy condition.

"ABSTRACT
Subsurface models of lithology are often poorly constrained due to the lack of
dense well control. Although limited in vertical resolution, high-quality threedimensional
(3-D) seismic data usually provide valuable information regarding
the lateral variations of lithology. In this thesis, I will show how Bayesian
approach can be used to generate seismically constrained models of
lithology. Unlike cokriging-based simulation methods, this method does not
rely on a generalized linear regression model, which is inadequate when
combining discrete variables, such as lithology indicator; and continuous
variables, such as seismic attributes. This method uses a Bayesian updating
rule to construct a posterior probability distribution function of lithoclasses by
using a priori information from well data and the seismic likelihood to constrain
the 3-D geological scenarios produced by geostatistical technique, which is
then sampled sequentially at all points in space to generate a set of
realizations. The realizations define alternative, equiprobable lithologic
models. The methodology was applied to delineate productive reservoir zone
in Boonsville, Texas. To achieve better result in the Bayesian Sequential
Indicator Simulation, I used acoustic impedance obtained from a seismic
inversion process as the attribute to constrain the simulation. It is expected
that by using this attribute, the separation of the litho-class conditional
distribution will be well defined and at the same time minimizing the overlaps
between the two distributions. The lithology classification obtained from BSIS
is then integrated with the result of the seismic inversion to clearly delineate
the productive zone in the field."
