"Sekuestrasi karbon pada makroalga melalui fotosintesis dapat berkontribusi terhadap permasalahan perubahan iklim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis potensi sekuestrasi karbon pada makroalga Kappaphycus striatum dengan umur pemeliharaan yang berbeda; usia bibit (25 hari) dan usia panen (60 hari). Sampel diambil secara acak pada sistem budidaya lepas dasar, di Desa Alaang, Pulau Alor, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Parameter yang diamati ialah kadar karbon melalui analisis gravimetri. Pengukuran laju pertumbuhan dan eksperimen botol gelap-terang juga dilakukan untuk dianalisis lebih lanjut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa potensi sekuestrasi karbon pada lahan budidaya rumput laut seluas 1,552 m2 ialah sebesar 13.28 ton C/siklus tanam untuk makroalga usia bibit dan 26.23 ton C/siklus tanam untuk makroalga usia panen. Nilai ini secara berturut-turut setara dengan 66.07 ton C/ha/siklus tanam dan 125.51 ton C/ha/siklus tanam. Berdasarkan hal ini, potensi sekuestrasi karbon pada makrolaga usia panen 32.78 % lebih besar daripada makroalga usia bibit. Hasil juga menunjukkan bahwa potensi sekuestrasi karbon dapat dipengaruhi oleh laju pertumbuhan dan produktivitas primer. Selanjutnya, manajemen kawasan budidaya rumput laut dengan mengintegrasikan nilai ekologi dan nilai ekonomi, dapat berpotensi untuk menyediakan berbagai manfaat baik bagi masyarakat maupun lingkungan.

Carbon sequestration on macroalgae through photosynthesis can contribute to the mitigation of climate change problem. This research aimed to analyse carbon sequestration potential on macroalgae Kappaphycus striatum with different harvested ages; i.e. young (25 days) and adult (60 days). Samples were collected randomly from off-bottom seaweed aquaculture system, at Alaang Village, Alor Island, East Nusa Tenggara. The parameter observed was carbon content determined by using gravimetric analysis. Growth rate measurement and light-dark bottle experiment were also conducted to be further analysed. Results showed that total area of seaweed aquaculture in Alaang Village was 1,552 m2. According to our analysis, it was estimated that the carbon sequestration potential of macroalgae Kappaphycus striatum was 13.28 tonnes C/cycle for young and 26.63 tonnes C/cycle for adult. These results were equal to 66.07 tonnes C/ha/cycle and 125.51 tonnes C/ha/cycle, respectively. Therefore, the carbon sequestration potential of adult was higher about 32.78% than that of young. It can be concluded that the carbon sequestration potential was influenced by growth rate and primary productivity. Further study on sustainable management of seaweed aquaculture sites, by considering ecological and economic values, could potentially provide multiple
functions both for human and ecosystem.

"Ruang lingkup dan cara penelitian: Penentuan daerah endemis merupakan langkah paling awal yang harus dilakukan dalam program eliminasi filariasis. Dalam program eliminasi filariasis global WHO menganjurkan penggunaan metode serodiagnosis. Untuk filariasis brugia, metode serodiagnosis terbaik yang ada saat ini adalah deteksi antibodi IgG4 anti-filaria. Deteksi tersebut telah dikembangkan dalam bentuk dipstik (disebut brugia rapid) yang pengerjaannya sangat mudah dan singkat. Dalam penelitian ini ingin diketahui apakah brugia rapid dapat digunakan untuk mendeteksi IgG4 anti-filaria terhadap B. timori dan menentukan daerah endemis filariasis timori.
Penelitian ini merupakan studi uji diagnostik dengan desain cross-sectional. Sebagai pembanding digunakan metode baku emas diagnosis filariasis secara mikroskopis melalui deteksi mikrofilaria dengan teknik membran filtrasi (data sekunder), Penelitian dilakukan di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Mainang di Pulau Alor, Nusa Tenggara Timur, menggunakan 500 sampel. Untuk melihat perbedaan hasil membran filtrasi dan brugia rapid dalam mendeteksi infeksi filariasis digunakan uj: Chi-square Mc-Nemar.
Hasil dan kesimpulan: Dalam peneltitian ini diperoleh angka infeksi filariasis berdasarkan pemeriksaan membran filtrasi sebesar 27,2%, sedangkan berdasarkan brugia rapid sebesar 77%. Uji McNemar menyatakan kedua metode tersebut memiliki perbedaan bermakna (p=0,000). Hasil pemeriksaan dengan brugia rapid memiliki sensitivitas 100% dan spesifisitas 31,59% terhadap membran filtrasi.
Disimpulkan bahwa: Metode brugia rapid dapat digunakan sebagai indikator daerah endemis filariasis timori. Brugia rapid dapat mendeteksi adanya infeksi filariasis timori, namun tidak dapat digunakan untuk memperkirakan angka mikrofilaria. Brugia rapid memberikan hasil yang lebih sensitif dibandingkan membran filtrasi. Brugia rapid dapat mendeteksi populasi normal endemik, karier mikrofilaremia dan pasien filariasis kronis di daerah endemis filariasis timori.

Scope and method: Identification of endemic area is needed to initiate global elimination program of filariasis. In such program, WHO proposed a serodiagnostic method to determine the endemic areas. The best serodiagnostic method for brugian filariasis is anti-filarial IgG4 antibody detection, which is now being available in dipstick format (named brugia rapid test). The test is easy to perform and the result can be read in ten minutes. In this study I intended to test the ability of brugia rapid to detect filariasis infection in order to determine timorian filariasis endemic area.
This was a cross-sectional diagnostic test study done in Mainang Puskesmas, Alor Island, East Nusa Tenggara. A total of 500 people were participated in this study. Conventional method, filtration membrane technique, was used as control method (secondary data). The result was analyzed by McNemar Chi-square test.
Result and conclusion: This present study showed that filariasis infection rate based on filtration membrane technique (mf rate) was 27.2%, while brugia rapid was 77.0%. McNemar test clarified that both methods were significantly different (p=0.000). Examination using brugia rapid has 100% sensitivity and 31.59% specificity against filtration membrane.
Based on the results, it was concluded that: Brugia rapid method could be applied as indicator to determine timorian filariasis endemic areas. Brugia rapid was able to detect timorian filariasis infection, but mf rate cannot be predicted by brugia rapid. However, brugia rapid gave more sensitive result compared to filtration membrane. Besides, brugia rapid was able to detect endemic normal, microfilaraemic carriers and chronic lymphoedema patients.

"Filariasis limfatik disebabkan cacing nematoda dari superfamili Filarioidea dan ditularkan nyamuk. WHO mencanangkan program eliminasi filariasis di negara endemis dengan strategi pengobatan tahunan berbasis komunitas pada populasi yang berisiko menggunakan DEC 6mg/kg berat badan dan albendazol 400 mg. Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui keberhasilan program pengobatan masal selama 5 tahun dalam menurunkan prevalensi hingga kurang dari 1% di Pulau Alor, NTT, sebagai daerah endemis filariasis Brugia timori. Peneliti menggunakan data sekunder dari desain studi eksperimental berupa prevalensi penderita filariasis sebelum dan setelah masa pengobatan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan pengobatan selama 5 tahun berhasil menurunkan prevalensi infeksi filaria. Disimpulkan bahwa metode pengobatan filariasis dengan kombinasi DEC dan albendazol terbukti mampu memenuhi target eliminasi filariasis WHO.

Lymphatic filariasis is caused by nematodes from superfamily of Filaroidea, with mosquito as its vector. Yearly medication based on the community treatment of risked population using DEC 6mg/kg and albendazol 400 mg is the strategy set by WHO. This research is proposed to know the success of 5 years mass treatment run in Alor Island, NTT, an endemic area for filariasis Brugia timori, to decrease the prevalency of filariasis until less than 1%. This research uses secondary data from the experimental study design in form of prevalency of people with filariasis before and after the medication. The result shows the five-year-medication with DEC and albendazol succeeds in decreasing the prevalence of filarial infection. The medication method of filariasis using the combination of DEC and albendazol is proved to fulfill the target set by WHO to eliminate filariasis."

"Program eliminasi filariasis melalui pengobatan masal DEC-Albendazol divKabupaten Alor. Obat diberikan setiap tahun selama 6 tahun dari tahun 2002-2007. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prevalensi filariasis setelah program eliminasi melalui pemeriksaan serologi pada murid SD dan orang dewasa. Deteksi serologi, antibodi anti-filaria IgG4, dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji Pan LF.
Desain potong lintang telah digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan data sekunder dari Departemen Parasitologi FKUI. Sebanyak 1232 murid SD ( 629 anak laki dan 605 anak perempuan) dan 427 orang dewasa (206 laki-laki dan 221 perempuan) telah diambil darah jari pada malam hari dan diperiksa adanya antibodi anti-filaria IgG4.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 12 sampel (0,97%) positif IgG4 pada murid SD dan 14 sampel (3,27%) pada orang dewasa. Analisis statistik dengan menggunakan uji Chi-square menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok tersebut (p = 0.001).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa orang dewasa laki-laki memiliki prevalensi positif IgG4 yang lebih tinggi (3,39%) dibandingkan dengan murid SD laki-laki (0,95%) dengan hasil uji Fisher’s (p= 0,022) yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa orang dewasa perempuan memiliki prevalensi positif IgG4 yang lebih tinggi (3,16%) dibandingkan dengan murid SD perempuan (0,99%) dengan hasil uji Fisher’s (p= 0,034) yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan. Dari penelitian ini dapatlah disimpulkan bahwa ada penurunan prevalensi IgG4 positif yang cukup signifikan pada murid SD dibandingkan pada orang dewasa.

Filariasis elimination program through DEC-albendazole mass treatment in Alor District. The drug is given every year for 6 years from 2002-2007. This study aims to determine the prevalence of filariasis after elimination program through serology test in primary school students and adult. Serological detection, anti-filarial IgG4 antibodies, carried out by using the test LF Pan.
Cross-sectional design was used in this study. The data used in this study is a secondary data from the Department of Parasitology Faculty of medicine. There are total of 1232 elementary school students (629 boys and 605 girls) and 427 adult (206 men and 221 women) had blood taken from finger at night finger and checked the anti-filarial IgG4 antibodies.
The results showed that 12 samples (0.97%) positive IgG4 in elementary school students and 14 samples (3.27%) in the adult. Statistical analysis using Chi square test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001).
The results showed that adult male have a higher IgG4 positive prevalence (3.39%) compared with male primary school students (0.95%) with the results of Fisher's test (p = 0.022) indicating a significant difference.
The results showed that adult women have a higher IgG4 positive prevalence (3.16%) compared with girls of elementary school children (0.99%) with the results of Fisher's test (p = 0.034) indicating a significant difference. From this study it can be concluded that there is a significant decrease of IgG4 positive prevalence in elementary school students compared to adult.

"Filariasis limfatik merupakan penyakit infeksi yang disebabkan oleh cacing Filaria dan ditularkan melalui gigitan nyamuk. Pada tahun 2000 WHO mencanangkan program eliminasi filariasis limfatik dengan strategi pengobatan massal selama minimal lima tahun menggunakan kombinasi dietilkarbamazin(DEC) 6mg/kg berat badan dan albendazol 400mg. Untuk mengevaluasi keberhasilan program tersebut, maka dilakukan penelitian melalui pengukuran kadar antibodi IgG4 dengan Pan LF.
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan desain studi uji cross sectional pada populasi dewasa di Kabupaten Alor, Nusa Tenggara Timur setelah enam tahun pengobatan. Sebanyak 427 sampel darah malam telah diperiksa antibodi IgG4 dengan Pan LF yang terdiri dari 206 orang laki-laki dan 221 orang wanita dengan kisaran umur 18-85 tahun.
Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan penurunan prevalensi positif IgG4, tidak terdapat perbedaan prevalensi yang bermakna pada berbagai kelompok umur (p=0,555), jenis kelamin (p=0.894), dan kecamatan tempat tinggal (p=082). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa prevalensi IgG4 pada populasi tidak dipengaruhi oleh umur, jenis kelamin maupun kecamatan dan terbukti program pengobatan massal telah berhasil menurunkan prevalensi positif IgG4 di Kabupaten Alor.

Lymphatic Filariasis is an infectious disease caused by Filaria worms and is transmitted through mosquito bites. In 2000, WHO launched a program of elimination of lymphatic filariasis by mass treatment strategies for at least five years using a combination of dietilkarbamazin (DEC) 6mg/kg and albendazole 400 mg. To evaluate the success of the program, the research carried out by measuring the levels of IgG4 antibodies using Pan LF.
The research was conducted using cross-sectional study design in the adult population in Alor regency, East Nusa Tenggara after six years of treatment. A total of 427 night blood samples were examined by Pan LF IgG4 antibody consisting of 206 men and 221 women with age range of 18-85 years.
The results show a decrease in the prevalence of IgG4 positive, there were no significant differences in prevalence in different age groups (p = 0.555), gender (p = 0894), and sub-district residence (p = 082). It is concluded that the prevalence of IgG4 in the population is not influenced by age, gender and district and the mass treatment program has proven successful in reducing the prevalence of IgG4 positive in Alor district.

Penyakit ini masih merupakan masalah kesehatan masyarakat diberbagai negara tropis dan subtropis termasuk di Indonesia dengan perkiraan 6 juta orang terinfeksi filariasis (2004). Pada tahun 2000 WHO mendeklarasikan "The Global Goal of Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis as a Public Health Problem by 2020" dan Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang menyepakati kesepakatan tersebut. Strategi dari program tersebut adalah dengan pengobatan tahunan berbasis komunitas pada populasi yang berisiko menggunakan dietilkarbamazin (DEC) 6mg/kg berat badan dalam kombinasi dengan albendazol 400 mg. Oleh WHO dianjurkan untuk mengevaluasi program eliminasi karena anak-anak dengan serodiagnosis pada anak berusia 6-10 tahun untuk mengetahui apa transmisi masih berlangsung. Oleh sebab itu, peneliti ingin meneliti lebih lanjut tentang penggunaan serodiagnosis, Brugia Rapid, dalam memantau keberhasilan program eliminasi filariasis setelah 5 tahun pengobatan kombinasi DEC-abendazol di daerah endemik filariasis timori, Pulau Alor dengan mengetahui prevalensi antibodi anti filaria IgG4 pada anak-anak sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan data sekunder IgG4 dengan Brugia Rapid dari desain studi uji cross sectional pada Anak Sekolah Dasar setelah 5 tahun pengobatan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan adanya perbedaan prevalensi IgG4 pada berbagai kelompok umur dengan nilai tertinggi pada usia 10 tahun (6,78%). Terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada prevalensi IgG4 pada anak usia < 10 tahun (1,41% - 2,63%) dibandingkan dengan anak usia > 10 tahun (6,78%). Perbedaan prevalensi juga diamati antara kelompok laki-laki (4,94%) dan perempuan (3,03%) meskipun perbedaan ini tidak bermakna. Dari hasil penelitian dapat diketahui bahwa prevalensi IgG4 pada anak Sekolah Dasar tidak dipengaruhi jenis kelamin tapi dipengaruhi oleh umur.

Filariasis is a disease caused by filarial worms and transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. The disease is still a public problem in tropical and subtropical countries including Indonesia where it is estimated that 6 million people were infected filariasis (2004). In 2000 WHO launched "The Global Goal of Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis as a Public Health Problem by 2020" and Indonesia is one of the countries agreed in this agreement. The strategy of this program is an annual treatment of Diethylcarbamazine Citrate (DEC) 6mg/kg body weight in combination with 400 mg albendazol to risked population. To evaluate the success of the program, WHO recommended to use serodiagnosis in children aged 6-10 years. Therefore, this research is proposed to investigate furthur the use of serodiagnosis, Brugia rapid, in monitoring the success of the filariasis elimination program after five years treatment with a combination of DEC-Albendazole (2002-2007) in filariasis timori endemic area, Alor Island by determining the prevalence IgG4 anti-filaria antibody in primary school children. The research was conducted using secondary data of IgG4 detected by Brugia rapid from a cross sectional study in Primary School Children after 5 years treatment. The result showed that there was differences in the prevalence of various age groups with the highest prevalence at the age of 10 years (6,78%) . The differences of the prevalence between children < 10 years old (1, ...% - 2,..%) and children > 10 years old (6,78%) is significant. However, the difference of IgG4 prevalence between boys and girls is not significant. This study revealed that sex of the children did not influence the prevalence of IgG4 but it was influenced by age."

"Indonesia secara geografis merupakan negara kepulauan dengan dua pertiga luas lautan lebih besar daripada daratan. Oleh sebab itu Indonesia memiliki potensi dalam pemanfaatan sumber daya kelautan. Rumput laut merupakan salah satu komoditas sumber daya laut yang memiliki potensi yang besar untuk dikembangkan. Di Pulau Tidung dapat dimanfaatkan tidak hanya dari sektor pariwisata, melainkan dapat dimanfaatkan dari sektor sumberdaya lautnya. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan wilayah potensi pengembangan budidaya rumput laut dengan metode skoring. Berdasarkan data-data dari variabel kondisi perairan, budidaya, dan objek wisata ditumpangtindihkan dan kemudian dianalisis secara spasial. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dari segi kondisi fisik perairan di pesisir utara Pulau Tidung pada segmen U1, U2, U3, dan U4 merupakan wilayah yang sesuai. Potensi pengembangan budidaya rumput laut berada di segmen U2 yang didukung oleh jumlah produksi yang tinggi, jarak objek wisata yang jauh, dan jumlah penginapan yang rendah membuat di wilayah tersebut menjadi berpotensi untuk dikembangkan.

Indonesia is geographically an archipelagic country with two thirds of the oceans larger than the mainland. Indonesia has the potential in the utilization of marine resources. Seaweed is one of the marine resources commodities that have great potential to be developed. In Tidung island can be utilized not only from the tourism, even can be utilized from the marine resources. In this study aims to determine the potential areas of seaweedcultivation development by the scoring method. Based on data from the variables oceanography, cultivation, and tourist objects overlapped and then analyzed spatially. The results of this study show that in terms of oceanography in the north coast of Tidung island in U1, U2, U3, and U4 segments are the suitable areas. Potential development of seaweed cultivation in Tidung island is in U2 segment, which is support by high production quantities, long distance from tourism object, and low number of accommodation makes it potentially to be developed area.

"Energi angin adalah salah satu energi baru dan terbarukan yang sedang dikembangkan sebagai energi alternatif untuk mengatasi krisis energi yang akan dihadapi. Nusa Tenggara Timur merupakan wilayah yang memiliki potensi angin yang cukup baik untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai pembangkit listrik. Salah satu teknologi yang banyak digunakan untuk pemanfaatan energi menjadi pembangkit listrik adalah turbin angin. Dalam pembangunan turbin angin, terdapat beberapa variabel yang mempengaruhi diantaranya yaitu kecepatan dan arah angin, kemiringan lereng, dan beberapa faktor lain seperti penggunaan tanah dan wilayah permukiman. Dengan kondisi angin di Nusa Tenggara Timur yang memiliki kecepatan rata-rata 3 m/s hingga 7 m/s maka jenis turbin angin skala menengah sangat cocok untuk dikembangkan. Sehingga hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu berupa gambaran mengenai potensi angin di Nusa Tenggara Timur serta wilayah yang berpotensi untuk pembangunan turbin angin untuk memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat dalam kebutuhan akan energi.

Wind energy is one of the new and renewable energy is being developed as an alternative energy to overcome the energy crisis to be faced. East Nusa Tenggara is a region that has a good enough wind potential to be used as a power plant. One of technology that is widely used for the utilization of energy into electricity generation is wind turbines. In the construction of wind turbines, there are several variables that affect them is the speed and direction of wind, slope, and several other factors such as the landuse and residential areas. With the wind conditions in East Nusa Tenggara which has an average speed of 3 m/s to 7 m/s the kind of medium scale wind turbine is suitable to be developed. "[Penelitian mengenai potensi makroalga alami Sargassum polycystum
dan makroalga budidaya Eucheuma cottonii dalam menyerap dan menyimpan
karbon serta nutrien di Pulau Panjang, Teluk Banten telah dilakukan pada bulan
Oktober hingga November 2014. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui laju
penyerapan karbon, kandungan nutrien dan produktivitas primer dari makroalga S.
polycystum dan E. cottonii. Lokasi penelitian terletak di bagian hamparan gosong
karang dan berlumpur dengan kedalaman 0,5-5 m. Pengamatan pertumbuhan dan
laju penyerapan karbon menggunakan metode penandaan thallus pada 30 sampel
makroalga setiap hari selama 7 hari. Sampel makroalga selanjutnya dianalisis
kandungan nutriennya. Hasil penelitian didapatkan estimasi laju penyerapan
karbon S. polycystum dan E. cottonii adalah 0,0081 gC/hari dan 0,0083 gC/hari.
Kandungan karbon, nitrogen dan fosfat di S. polycystum adalah sebanyak 6,84%,
1,72% dan 0,009% sedangkan kandungan karbon, nitrogen dan fosfat di E.
cottonii adalah 5,99%, 0,67% dan 0,006%. Berdasarkan analisis statistik dengan
uji t, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada laju pertumbuhan, kandungan
nitrogen dan fosfat S. polycystum dengan E. cottonii. Sedangkan untuk kandungan
karbon tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara S. polycystum dengan E.
cottonii. Selanjutnya, uji korelasi didapatkan bahwa adanya korelasi antara laju
pertumbuhan S. polycystum dan E. cottonii dengan kandungan nitrogen masingmasing
sedangkan antara laju pertumbuhan dengan kandungan karbon dan fosfat
tidak terdapat korelasi. Produktivitas primer diukur dengan metode botol terang
dan botol gelap yang dimodifikasi. Pengukuran produktivitas primer dilakukan
pada kedalaman 0,5 m untuk S. polycystum dan 0,1 m untuk E. cottonii.
Kandungan oksigen terlarut diukur dengan DO meter. Hasil penelitian didapatkan
rata-rata produktivitas primer S. polycystum sebesar 10,259 ± 3,385 mgC/g/hari
