"This book treats dynamic stability of structures under nonconservative forces. It is not a mathematics-based, but rather a dynamics-phenomena-oriented monograph, written with a full experimental background. Starting with fundamentals on stability of columns under nonconservative forces, it then deals with the divergence of Eulers column under a dead (conservative) loading from a view point of dynamic stability. Three experiments with cantilevered columns under a rocket-based follower force are described to present the verifiability of nonconservative problems of structural stability. Dynamic stability of columns under pulsating forces is discussed through analog experiments, and by analytical and experimental procedures together with related theories. Throughout the volume the authors retain a good balance between theory and experiments on dynamic stability of columns under nonconservative loading, offering a new window to dynamic stability of structures, promoting student- and scientist-friendly experiments."

"The book offers a unified view on classical results and recent advances in the dynamics of nonconservative systems. The theoretical fundamentals are presented systematically and include: Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, non-holonomic constraints, Lyapunov stability theory, Krein theory of spectra of Hamiltonian systems and modes of negative and positive energy, anomalous Doppler effect, reversible systems, sensitivity analysis of non-self-adjoint operators, dissipation-induced instabilities, local and global instabilities. They are applied to engineering situations such as the coupled mode flutter of wings, flags and pipes, flutter in granular materials, piezoelectric mechanical metamaterials, wave dynamics of infinitely long structures, radiative damping, stability of high-speed trains, experimental realization of follower forces, soft-robot locomotion, wave energy converters, friction-induced instabilities, brake squeal, non-holonomic sailing, dynamics of moving continua, and stability of bicycles and walking robots.
The book responds to a demand in the modern theory of nonconservative systems coming from the growing number of scientific and engineering disciplines including physics, fluid and solids mechanics, fluid-structure interactions, and modern multidisciplinary research areas such as biomechanics, micro- and nanomechanics, optomechanics, robotics, and material science. It is targeted at both young and experienced researchers and engineers working in fields associated with the dynamics of structures and materials. The book will help to get a comprehensive and systematic knowledge on the stability, bifurcations and dynamics of nonconservative systems and establish links between approaches and methods developed in different areas of mechanics and physics and modern applied mathematics."

In this modern era, composite materials are oftenly used for a lot of industrial needs, including automotive, aviation, and structural. Composite materials are used for their advantages instead of using conventional materials, such as steel ana wood, mainly because of their mechanical properties having high strength-to-weight ratio, high temperature resistance, and modifiable for any different needs. Composite materials have one considerable weakness, they have low resistance to relatively high impact loads. Moreover, a cyclic impact load for a long duration would have worse effect to the material. There are no standards for both testing procedures and testing machine design for composite material based impact and fatigue testing in a single machine. For that reason, an impact-fatigue testing machine is designed to provide impact energy in a range of 1 to 10 Joules with 12000 cycles every hour. From design calculation of the linear system, the impactor needs to collide with the specimen in 1,87 m/s velocity, which can be produced with a 110-mm crank throw radius.]"

"This book offers engineering students an introduction to the theory of partial differential equations and then guiding them through the modern problems in this subject.
Divided into two parts, in the first part readers already well-acquainted with problems from the theory of differential and integral equations gain insights into the classical notions and problems, including differential operators, characteristic surfaces, Levi functions, Green’s function, and Green’s formulas. Readers are also instructed in the extended potential theory in its three forms: the volume potential, the surface single-layer potential and the surface double-layer potential. Furthermore, the book presents the main initial boundary value problems associated with elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations. The second part of the book, which is addressed first and foremost to those who are already acquainted with the notions and the results from the first part, introduces readers to modern aspects of the theory of partial differential equations. "This book is designed to serve as a textbook for a course on ordinary differential equations, which is usually a required course in most science and engineering disciplines and follows calculus courses. The book begins with linear algebra, including a number of physical applications, and goes on to discuss first-order differential equations, linear systems of differential equations, higher order differential equations, Laplace transforms, nonlinear systems of differential equations, and numerical methods used in solving differential equations. The style of presentation of the book ensures that the student with a minimum of assistance may apply the theorems and proofs presented. Liberal use of examples and homework problems aids the student in the study of the topics presented and applying them to numerous applications in the real scientific world. This textbook focuses on the actual solution of ordinary differential equations preparing the student to solve ordinary differential equations when exposed to such equations in subsequent courses in engineering or pure science programs. The book can be used as a text in a one-semester core course on differential equations, alternatively it can also be used as a partial or supplementary text in intensive courses that cover multiple topics including differential equations."

ABSTRACT
Stock options are one type of derivative securities whose contract value depends on the value of the shares listed on the option contract. Asian stock options fall into the type of exotic options whose value is affected by the average share value throughout the lifetime of the option. In this thesis the average asset value used is the geometric average. The stock value used in this thesis will follow the CEV Constant Elasticity of Variance model which is a general form of the famous Black Scholes model. In determining the analytic option value with the CEV model it is very difficult, because of that the value of the Asian option is modeled into a partial differential equation. Partial differential equations for Asian options will be solved by perturbation method. The perturbation method used is a regular perturbation method. In the end a formula will be generated to determine the price of Asian call option with CEV model and geometric mean."

"This research monograph deals with a modeling theory of the system of Navier-stokes-fourier equations for a newtonian fluid governing a compressible viscous and heat conducting flows. The main objective is threefold. First , to 'deconstruct' this Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in order to unify the puzzle of the various partial simplified approximate models used in Newtonian Classical Fluid Dynamics and this, first facet, have obviously a challenging approach and a very important pedagogic impact on the university education. The second facet of the main objective is to outline a rational consistent asymptotic/mathematical theory of the of fluid flows modeling on the basis of a typical Navier-Stokes-Fourier initial and boundary value problem. The third facet is devoted to an illustration of our rational asymptotic/mathematical modeling theory for various technological and geophysical stiff problems from, aerodynamics, thermal and thermocapillary convections and also meteofluid dynamics."

"[This book covers recent advances in the development and usage of DUNE. It consists of a collection of 13 articles which mainly evolved from talks given at the First DUNE User Meeting in Stuttgart, Germany, 6.-8.10.2010. The articles nicely illustrate the advanced capabilities and the strong versatility of the DUNE framework. The first part presents extensions of the DUNE core modules, including the construction of local finite element spaces, a discretization toolbox, and two meta-grids, as well as a discussion of performance pitfalls. The second part introduces several external DUNE modules dealing with, e.g., reduced basis methods, unfitted discontinuous Galerkin methods, optimal control problems, and porous media applications. Specific methods and applications are subject of the third part, ranging from two-phase flow in porous media over the implementation of hybrid discontinuous Galerkin and heterogeneous multi-scale methods up to the coupling of DUNE with an existing finite element package.
