"This book offers an introduction to piezoelectric shells and distributed sensing, energy harvesting and control applications. It familiarizes readers with a generic approach of piezoelectric shells and fundamental electromechanics of distributed piezoelectric sensors, energy harvesters and actuators applied to shell structures. The book is divided into two major parts, the first of which focuses on piezoelectric shell continua, while the second examines distributing sensing, energy harvesting and control of elastic continua, e.g., shells and plates.
The exploitation of new, advanced multifunctional smart structures and structronic systems has been one of the mainstream research and development activities over the years. In the search for innovative structronics technologies, piezoelectric materials have proved to be very versatile in both sensor and actuator applications. Consequently, the piezoelectric technology has been applied to a broad range of practical applications, from small-scale nano- and micro-sensors/actuators to large-scale airplane and space structures and systems."

Next generation of fixed network and Mobile network telecommunication infrastructure and services is evolved from Switched Circuit Network (SCN) based to Packet Switched Network (PSN) based. Within Packet Switched Network interconnection of communication services is built in a connectionless environtment , using a shared communication channel and adopt a statistical multiplexing mechanism for forwarding traffic between network. Real time communication services is not smoothly adopted by this type of forwarding mechanism because the queuing delay and packet drop characteristic of statistical multiplexing. This thesis implement per-flow traffic basis management by utilizing SIP based softswitch to control the enforcement of traffic policy on a packet network infrastructure that adopt IETF's Policy Based Admission Control architecture. The successfulness of offered solution is obeserved in the distribution condition of allocated bandwidth for VoIP traffic compared to other traffic. The experiments show the successful application of throughput conditioning based on SIP user profiles. The performance issue of SIP signalling is addressed by a no feedback scenario between Call Signalling Control Function (CSCF) and Policy Enforcement Point (PEP) but there is a significant difference of completion time on SIP processing and QoS Enforcement."

"The Encyclopedia of Control collects a broad range of short expository articles that describe the current state of the art in the central topics of control and systems engineering as well as in many of the related fields in which control is an enabling technology. The editors have assembled the most comprehensive reference possible, and this has been greatly facilitated by the publisher’s commitment continuously to publish updates to the articles as they become available in the future. Although control engineering is now a mature discipline, it remains an area in which there is a great deal of research activity, and as new developments in both theory and applications become available, they will be included in the online version of the encyclopedia. A carefully chosen team of leading authorities in the field has written the more than 200 articles that comprise the work. The topics range from basic principles of feedback in servomechanisms to advanced topics such as the control of Boolean networks and evolutionary game theory. Because the content has been selected to reflect both foundational importance as well as subjects that are of current interest to the research and practitioner communities, a broad readership that includes students, application engineers, and research scientists will find material that is of interest."

"Over the last 50 years there have been an increasing number of applications of algebraic tools to solve problems in communications, in particular in the fields of error-control codes and cryptography. More recently, broader applications have emerged, requiring quite sophisticated algebra - for example, the Alamouti scheme in MIMO communications is just Hamilton's quaternions in disguise and has spawned the use of PhD-level algebra to produce generalizations. Likewise, in the absence of credible alternatives, the industry has in many cases been forced to adopt elliptic curve cryptography. In addition, algebra has been successfully applied to problems in signal processing such as face recognition, biometrics, control design, and signal design for radar. This book introduces the reader to the algebra they need to appreciate these developments and to various problems solved by these techniques."

"[The complexity of software is continuously growing as a result of today’s interconnected business processes. Governance of architecture and technology strategy helps to ensure coherence of software and avoid excessive complexity. At the same time software development needs room for creativity and empowerment to provide solutions to business problems of increasing complexity. The book looks at this software dilemma from the perspectives of CIOs/CTOs, software architects, and auditors. Each of these groups has different interests which need to be considered, reconciled, and balanced. CIOs/CTOs are provided with the boundary conditions they have to establish assuring the achievement of strategic objectives. Architects and auditors find proven concepts for effectively assessing software projects and architectures, as well as for effectively communicating identified issues to responsible persons. The book is based on the author’s long experience in software engineering, governance, and auditing.
