This study was brought up due to a concern of 308 mismatched image-text vocabulary learning in the Baina Yadaik Arabic textbook. This study focused on the compatibility of visual images with written vocabulary and students' perceptions of visual images in this textbook. The object used was 1386 images from eight chapters of the Baina Yadaik Arabic textbook volume 1A and 26 Arabic students. Baina Yadaik is an Arabic learning book widely used to learn everyday vocabulary for student beginners in a high school and university level. This research employed the visual representational meaning framework proposed by Kress and Van Leeuwen. Under a multimodal discourse analysis, the pictures used in the book would be described and examined in detail based on their function and suitability as learning tool. This study used the VGG Image Annotator corpus tools to analyze images with written vocabulary. This study concluded that despite the essential roles visual images play in learning basic Arabic vocabulary, image use in Baina Yadaik Arabic volume 1A does not suggest useful for vocabulary learning. This book still adheres to Arabic culture which is very different from the culture in Indonesia, needs special attention for teacher to use this book as a learning tool."
