"Latar belakang: Peningkatan populasi usia lanjut diikuti dengan meningkatnya masalah kesehatan terkait penurunan kapasitas fungsional. Gangguan kognitif ringan sering dijumpai pada usia lanjut, yang merupakan fase transisi sebelum berkembang menjadi demensia. Aktivitas fisik yang bersifat aerobik terbukti bermanfaat mempertahankan fungsi kognitif usia lanjut dan mencegah terjadinya demensia pada populasi ini, namun studi berjalan kaki terukur menggunakan pedometer belum diteliti di Indonesia.
Metode: Studi ini bertujuan menilai efek aktivitas berjalan kaki terukur minimal 4000 langkah setiap hari selama 12 minggu terhadap fungsi kognitif usia lanjut dengan gangguan kognitif ringan. Studi ini adalah studi intervensi mixed method, quantitative and qualitative research, dilakukan pada 12 subjek, berusia 60-74 tahun, di Poliklinik Rumah Sakit Ciptomangukusumo. Penilaian fungsi kognitif menggunakan kuesioner MoCa-Ina berbahasa Indonesia, yang dinilai sebelum dan setelah intervensi.
Hasil: Rerata capaian jumlah langkah harian adalah 5689 ± 505,59 langkah. Terjadi peningkatan rerata nilai MoCa-Ina sebelum dan setelah intervensi (26,0 ± 3,16 dan 27,29 ± 1,49, p=0,175). Pada akhir intervensi, dilakukan wawancara kepada seluruh subjek yang berhasil menyelesaikan program, didapatkan bahwa seluruh subjek merasakan peningkatan kebugaran fisik dan tidak ada efek samping yang terjadi selama intervensi.
Simpulan: Aktivitas berjalan kaki terukur minimal 4000 langkah setiap hari selama 12 minggu dapat mempertahankan fungsi kognitif usia lanjut dengan gangguan kognitif ringan.

Background: The increasing of elderly population followed by increasing health problems due to decreased functional capacity. Mild cognitive impairment commonly found in the elderly, which is a transitional phase before developing into dementia. Aerobic physical activity has been shown to be beneficial in maintaining cognitive function in the elderly and preventing dementia in this population, however, studies of walking-based pedometer have not been studied in Indonesia.
Methods: This study aims to assess the effect of 12 week of 4000-daily steps of the pedometer-home based walking activity on cognitive function in elderly with mild cognitive impairment. This study is a mixed method, quantitative and qualitative research intervention study, conducted on twelve subjects, aged 60-74 years, at the outpatient Ciptomangukusumo Hospital. Evaluation of cognitive function using the MoCa-Ina questionnaire Indonesian version, which was assessed before and after the intervention.
Results: The average number of daily steps count was 5689 ± 505.59 steps. There was an increase in the mean value of MoCa-Ina before and after the intervention (26.0 ± 3.16 and 27.29 ± 1.49, p=0.175). Interviews were conducted with all subjects who successfully completed the program, it was found that all subjects felt an increase in physical fitness and no side effects occurred during the intervention.
Conclusion: Twelve weeks of 4000 daily steps maintain cognitive function in the elderly with mild cognitive impairment.

"ABSTRAK
Latar belakang : Usia lanjut berhubungan dengan terjadinya gangguan kognitif ringan. Pada umumnya usia lanjut memiliki keterbatasan mobilitas. Sebuah metode latihan yang dapat meningkatkan fungsi kognitif pada usia lanjut dengan keterbatasan mobilitas sangat dibutuhkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai pengaruh latihan koordinasi terhadap peningkatan fungsi kognitif pada usia lanjut dengan gangguan kognitif ringan
Metode : Metode penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan jumlah sampel 35 orang usia lanjut dengan gangguan kognitif ringan pada sebuah pusat kesehatan, Rumah sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM). Program latihan koordinasi metode Jockey Club for Positive Aging (JCCPA) diberikan 3x seminggu selama 8 minggu. Penilaian fungsi kognitif menggunakan MoCA-Ina pada sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan.
Hasil : Latihan koordinasi selama 8 minggu menghasilkan nilai fungsi kognitif MoCA Ina yang meningkat secara statistik dengan uji T-test berpasangan ( mean 21,23 sebelum perlakuan menjadi 26,00 sesudah perlakuan; p<0,001). Uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada ranah-ranah fungsi kognitif yaitu visuospatial/ fungsi eksekutif (p<0,001), atensi (p=0,005), bahasa (p=0,004), abstraksi (p=0,002), memori tunda (p<0,001), orientasi (p=0,0025) kecuali pada ranah penamaan (p=0,157) .
Kesimpulan: Latihan koordinasi bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan fungsi kognitif pada usia lanjut dengan gangguan kognitif ringan.

ABSTRACT
Background: Elderly is associated with the occurrence of mild cognitive impairment and limited mobility. An exercise method that can increase the cognitive function in elderly with limited mobility is therefore needed. This study aimed to measure the effect of coordination exercise in increasing the cognitive function in elderly with mild cognitive impairment..
Methods: A pre-experimental study with 35 participants from one health center (RSCM) were given 3 session per week for 8 weeks of JCCPA coordination exercise method. MOCA-Ina was used to measure the cognitive function of the subjects. This assessment is performed before and after the program.
Results: Paired-t test using MoCA-Ina score increases significantly from mean score of 21.23 before intervention to mean score of 26.00 after intervention (p< 0.005). Wilcoxon test showed improved scores in the cognitive domains of visuospatial / executive function (p <0.001), attention (p = 0.005), language (p = 0.004), abstraction (p = 0.002), delayed memory (p <0.001), orientation (p = 0.0025) except naming (p = 0.157).
Conclusion: Coordination exercise is beneficial to increase the cognitive function elderly with mild cognitive impairment."

"[Latar Belakang : Jumlah usia lanjut (Usila) makin meningkat dan tumbuh cepat, yang membawa konsekuensi meningkatnya gangguan terkait usia, termasuk penurunan fungsi kognitif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek pemberian aktivitas berjalan kaki terstruktur, yaitu minimal 6000 langkah/hari, terintegrasi dalam aktivitas sehari-hari dengan kecepatan yang nyaman selama 12 minggu, dalam memelihara fungsi kognitif pada usia lanjut dengan fungsi kognitif normal di komunitas.
Metode : Desain penelitian ini adalah studi ekperimental, berupa uji klinis acak tersamar tunggal. Subyek terdiri dari 20 orang Usila pada kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan aktivitas berjalan kaki terstruktur, dan 19 orang Usila pada kelompok kontrol yang beraktivitas sebagaimana biasanya, selama 12 minggu. Subyek dinilai fungsi kognitifnya menggunakan MoCA Ina pada awal dan akhir perlakuan. Aktivitas berjalan kaki diukur menggunakan pedometer.
Hasil : Aktivitas berjalan kaki terstruktur yang mampu dilakukan oleh kelompok perlakuan adalah 7531 langkah/hari, dan kelompok kontrol adalah 3527 langkah/hari (p=0,000). Pada akhir penelitian, skor total MoCA pada kelompok perlakuan (median=29) adalah lebih tinggi (p=0,022) dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (median=27), dan begitu pula untuk selisih skor MoCA antara awal dan akhir penelitian (rerata selisih pada kelompok perlakuan adalah 3,35; kelompok kontrol adalah 1,47; p=0,003). Efek perlakuan pada domain fungsi kognitif menunjukkan skor Visuospasial/Fungsi Eksekusi secara siknifikan (p=0,08) lebih tinggi pada kelompok perlakuan dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Selisih skor domain MoCA pada awal dan akhir penelitian ditemukan lebih besar pada kelompok perlakuan pada domain Visuospasial/Fungsi Eksekusi, Bahasa, dan Abstraksi.
Kesimpulan : Aktivitas berjalan kaki terstruktur 7500 langkah/hari memiliki efek positif dalam memelihara fungsi kognitif usia lanjut secara umum, dengan domain yang paling dipengaruhi adalah Visuospasial/Fungsi Eksekusi. Intervention group were given structured walking activity, and control group did their usual activity, for 12 weeks. Results : Amount of walking activity that was able to do was 7531 steps/day in intervention group, and 3527 steps/day in control group (p=0,000). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai perbaikan fungsi kognitif pada usia lanjut dengan demensia setelah pemberian terapi musik dengan metode interaktif secara berkala. Musik dapat meningkatkan fungsi memori melalui mekanisme aktivasi jalur dopaminergik, aktivasi hipotalamus dan konektivitas neuron. Musik telah terbukti dapat mengakses dan mengaktifkan sistim otak yang terkait dengan penghargaan dan emosi sehingga dapat meningkatkan kemampuan memori melalui perbaikan proses atensi. Penelitian ini merupakan studi intervensional dengan desain kontrol acak yang melibatkan subjek usila yang berada di panti wredha Pusaka 41 sebagai kelompok intervensi (n = 29) dan Santa Anna sebagai kelompok kontrol (n = 35). Subjek dari kedua kelompok diambil secara konsekutif. Para subjek kemudian dilakukan skrining dan pemeriksaan medis. Pada kelompok intervensi diberikan terapi musik menggunakan metode interaktif sebanyak 2x/ minggu dengan durasi 45 menit selama 6 minggu oleh terapis musik yang tersertifikasi internasional, sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol subjek diminta untuk melakukan aktivitas sehari-hari yang dijadwalkan dan kegiatan rekreasi. Karakteristik subjek penelitian ini didominasi oleh jenis kelamin perempuan (79,3% pada kelompok intervensi dan 65,7% pada kelompok kontrol), berusia usia rata-rata 73,77± 9,93 tahun dan pada kelompok terapi musik 69,41 ± 7,29 tahun. Pada kelompok kontrol, tingkat pendidikan terbanyak adalah >SMA berjumlah 28 orang, sedangkan pada kelompok terapi musik tingkat pendidikan terbanyak adalah SD-SMP berjumlah 24 orang. Median nilai MoCA-Ina pada kelompok kontrol adalah 20 (14-24), sedangkan pada kelompok terapi musik adalah 18 (14-24). Perbedaan signifikan antara kelompok kontrol dan terapi musik ditemukan pada karakteristik usia (p=0,049) dan tingkat pendidikan (p=0,001). Hasil analisa uji Anova repeated measurement yang dikontrol dengan faktor usia, perbedaan yang signifikan hanya terdapat pada skor total MoCA-Ina (p <0,001), sub bagian memori (p=0,020) dan fungsi abstraksi (p=0,681) sub bagian atensi (p=0,003). Sedangkan pada sub bagian orientasi (p=0,133) dan fungsi abstraksi (p=0,681) tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan bermakna. Pemberian intervensi terapi musik selama 6 minggu terbukti dapat meningkatkan fungsi atensi dan memori sebagai sub-bagian dari fungsi kognitif. Fungsi atensi merupakan mekanisme dasar dalam fungsi kognitif sehingga dalam praktik pemberian intervensi yang bertujuan untuk memperbaiki fungsi kognitif, atensi seharusnya menjadi sasaran pertama yang harus ditingkatkan. Dengan adanya fungsi atensi yang baik diharapkan proses input sensorik dapat menjadi lebih baik sehingga dapat mendukung proses rehearsal memori.


This study aims to assess the improvement of cognitive function in the elderly with dementia after the provision of music therapy with interactive methods regularly. Music can improve memory function through the activation mechanism of dopaminergic pathways, activation hipothalamus, and neuronal connectivity. Music has been proven to be able to access and activate the brain system associated with appreciation and emotions so that it can improve memory skills through improving attention processes. This research is an interventional study with a randomized control design involving elderly subjects who are in Pusaka 41 nursing home as an intervention group (n = 29) and Santa Anna as a control group (n = 35). Subjects from both groups were taken consecutively. The subjects were then screened and had a medical examination. In the intervention group music therapy was given using an interactive method two times a week with duration 45 minutes for 6 weeks by music therapists who were international certified, while in the control group subjects were asked to carry out scheduled daily activities and recreational activities. The characteristics of the study subjects were dominated by female sex (79,3% in the intervention group and 65,7% in the control group), average age of 73,77 ± 9,93 years and in the music therapy group 69,41 ± 7,29 years. In the control group, the highest level of education was> SMA with 28 people, while in the music therapy group the highest level of education was SD-SMP amounting to 24 people. The median MoCA-Ina score in the control group was 20 (14-24), whereas in the music therapy group it was 18 (14-24). Significant differences between the control group and music therapy were found in the characteristics of age (p = 0,049) and level of education (p = 0,001). Anova repeated measurement test results are controlled by the age factor, significant differences are only found in the total MoCA-Ina score (p < 0,001), memory sub-section (p = 0,020) and abstraction function (p = 0,681) attention sub-section (p = 0,003). Whereas in the orientation sub-section (p = 0,133) and abstraction function (p = 0,681) there were no significant significant differences. The provision of music therapy interventions for 6 weeks has been shown to improve attention and memory functions as sub-parts of cognitive function. Attention function is a basic mechanism in cognitive function so that in the practice of providing interventions aimed at improving cognitive function, attention should be the first target that must be improved. With good attention function, it is expected that the sensory input process can be better so that it can support the memory rehearsal process.

"ABSTRAK
Gangguan kognitif ringan merupakan gejala awal dari perkembangan penyakit demensia yang dapat dicegah dan diperbaiki. Deteksi MCI menggunakan bantuan informan memiliki kelebihan dibandingkan pemeriksaan langsung ke lansia. Salah satu pemeriksaan berdasarkan informan adalah IQCODE-S. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk melakukan adaptasi lintas budaya, uji validitas dan reliabilitas IQCODE-S Bahasa Indonesia.Metode Penelitian. Penelitian dibagi menjadi 2 tahap. Tahap pertama meliputi adaptasi lintas budaya berdasarkan ketentuan World Health Organization WHO , dilanjutkan uji validitas interna, reliabilitas interna dan reliabilitas test-retest pada 30 pasien epilepsi yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Tahap kedua adalah uji diagnostik. Hasil IQCODE-S dengan titik potong ge;3,19 dibandingkan dengan pemeriksaan neuropsikologi sebagai baku emas.Hasil. Kuesioner IQCODE-S versi bahasa Indonesia didapatkan melalui proses adaptasi lintas budaya menurut WHO. Hasil uji validitas interna dengan korelasi Spearman didapatkan koefisien korelasi 0,382 hingga 0,778. Uji reliabilitas konsistensi interna dengan Cronbach rsquo;s Alpha 0,854. Perbedaan nilai koefisien korelasi dan Cronbach rsquo;s Alpha antara pemeriksaan pertama dan retest menunjukkan reliabilitas test-retest yang baik. Dari 63 subyek uji diagnostik, proporsi MCI hasil pemeriksaan neuropsikologi sebanyak 87,3 . Dengan titik potong ge;3,19, IQCODE-S memiliki sensitivitas 76,4 dan spesifisitas 87,5 . Kesimpulan. Kuesioner IQCODE-S versi Indonesia terbukti valid dan reliabel sehingga dapat digunakan untuk menapis MCI. Dengan titik potong ge;3,19, IQCODE-S memiliki nilai akurasi yang tinggi tapi belum dapat menjadi alat skrining MCI di komunitas.Kata Kunci. MCI, IQCODE-S versi Indonesia, uji validitas dan reliabilitas, uji diagnostik.

ABSTRACT
Mild cognitive impairment MCI is the most early clinical symptom from the progression stage of dementia which this stage can be prevented or fixed. Detection of MCI by using informant based report has many advantages compared with objective screening test. One of informant based tools is Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly short version IQCODE S . The aim of this study is to develop transcultural adaptation, validity and reliability test and diagnostic test with neuropsychological test of the IQCODE S.Method. The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase included transcultural adaptation based on World Health Organization WHO standards, followed by internal validity test, internal reliability test and test retest in 30 elderly patients within their informants who fulfill the inclusion criteria. The second phase was diagnostic test, in which, IQCODE S, with cut off point ge 3,19,will be compared with Neuropsychological test as the gold standard examination for diagnosing MCI.Results. The Indonesian version of IQCODE S was obtained by transcultural adaptation based on WHO standards. Internal validity test with Spearman correlation obtained the correlation coefficient 0.38 to 0.778 Internal consistency reliability test with Cronbach rsquo s Alpha was 0.854. The difference of correlation coefficient and Cronbach rsquo s Alpha between the first and the retest showed good test retest reliability. Out of 63 of subjects of diagnostic test, the proportion of MCI using neuropsychological test was 87.3 . With cut off point 3,19, IQCODE S had sensitivity rate of 76,4 and specificity 87,5 .Conclusion. The Indonesian version of the the IQCODE S was proven to be valid and reliable, also was found to be accurate but there should be cut off point determination as screening test so sensitivity could be higher than specificity. Tujuan penelitian iniadalah untuk mengetahui hubungan diabetes mellitus dengan kejadian gangguan kognitif ringanpada lansia di wilayah kerja puskesmas kecamatan Cipayung kota Depok. desain studi yangdigunakan adalah cross sectional menggunakan data primer dengan instrument MoCa-Inatervalidasi. Sampel berjumlah 272 pasien lanjut usia. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan coxregression. Hasil analisis data diperoleh prevalensi MCI sebesar 47,1 dan lansia dengan DMsebesar 17,3 . Pada analisis multivariat didapatkan MCI berisiko 2,4 kali lebih besar pada lansiayang memiliki DM dibandingkan dengan lansia yang tidak memiliki DM setelah dikontrolvariabel hipertensi dan variabel interaksi DM dengan hipertensi PR=2,436 95 CI: 1,191-4,983 .Skrining deteksi dini MCI pada lansia dengan DM merupakan intervensi awal untukmencegah terjadinya demensia.Kata kunci:Diabetes mellitus DM , Mild Cognitive Impairment MCI , Lansia

"Proses penuaan mengakibatkan perubahan fisiologis yang terkait dengan masalah kesehatan pada orang usia lanjut (usila). Penyakit degeneratif merupakan faktor risiko terjadinya gangguan kognitif pada orang usila. Terbentuknya akumulasi amyloid β (Aβ) merupakan hal utama terjadinya gangguan kognitif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan desain potong lintang pada 58 orang usila di Kelurahan Kartini yang dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari 2019 untuk mengetahui korelasi kadar seng rambut dengan fungsi kognitif pada populasi usila. Pemeriksaan kadar seng rambut dengan inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICPS) dan fungsi kognitif dinilai dengan instrumen abbreviated mental test (AMT). Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji korelasi. Rerata usia subjek 65,4 ± 4,4 tahun. Nilai median asupan seng sebesar 5,65 (3,2-13,3) mg/hari. Rerata kadar seng rambut sebesar 123,23 ± 69,71 µg/gram rambut. Sebagian besar memiliki fungsi kognitif normal (91,4%). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat korelasi asupan seng dengan kadar seng rambut (p=0,349 ; r= -0,125) serta tidak ditemukan adanya korelasi kadar seng rambut dengan fungsi kognitif pada populasi usila (p=0,871 ; r= -0,022). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah tidak terdapat korelasi antara kadar seng rambut dengan fungsi kognitif pada populasi usila.

Aging process cause physiological changes related to health problems in elderly. Degenerative diseases are the risk factor for cognitive impairment in elderly. Amyloid β (Aβ) accumulation is the major cause of cognitive impairment. Zinc has an important role in antioxidant and Aβ accumulation process. A cross sectional study of 58 elderly subjects was done at Kartini Regency in January 2019 to evaluate the correlation between hair zinc level and cognitive function in elderly population. Hair zinc level was measured by inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICPS) and cognitive function assessed by abbreviated mental test (AMT). Data analysis was done by correlation test. The mean age was 65.4 ± 4.4 years. The median value of zinc intake was 5.65 (3.2 - 13.3) mg/day. The mean hair zinc level was 123.23 ± 69.71 µg/gram hairs. Almost all subjects had normal cognitive function (91.4%). The results of this study indicate that there was no correlation between zinc intake and hair zinc level (p=0.349 ; r= -0.125) and there was no correlation between hair zinc level and cognitive function in elderly population (p=0.871 ; r= -0.022). In conclusion, there was no correlation hair zinc level and cognitive function in elderly population. "

"Peningkatan harapan hidup manusia akan menambah populasi lanjut usia diikuti dengan peningkatan problem, antara lain penurunan fungsi kognitif. Salah satu faktor risiko penurunan fungsi kognitif ialah social engagement yang dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan tempat tinggal. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode cross sectional di kelurahan Jelambar dan Jelambar Baru, Jakarta atas 286 lanjut usia yang tinggal di keluarga dan di panti werdha menunjukkan adanya pengaruh social engagement terhadap fungsi kognitif lanjut usia, terutama di kalangan panti werdha. Social engagement buruk berhubungan dengan gangguan fungsi kognitif setelah dikendalikan oleh aktivitas kognitif, khususnya pada kelompok social engagement buruk dan tinggal di panti; di kelompok lanjut usia perempuan, social engagement buruk berhubungan dengan fungsi kognitif lebih rendah. Komponen social engagement yang paling berperan terhadap fungsi kognitif para lanjut usia adalah aktivitas di masyarakat dan keanggotaan di kelompok masyarakat lain. Kegiatan ke luar rumah dan berbelanja, dan kerja sukarela/amal merupakan komponen aktivitas di masyarakat yang paling berpengaruh. Di kalangan perempuan, komponen social engagement yang paling berpengaruh adalah keanggotaan di kelompok lain. Aktivitas kognitif yang terbesar pengaruhnya adalah masak sendiri dan menonton siaran televisi berita.

The increase of life expectancy brings a problem of elderly, among others is problem of cogntive decline. One of the risk factors for cognitive decline is social engagement which can be influenced by living environment. This research was done with cross sectional method in kelurahan Jelambar and Jelambar Baru with 286 respondents living in family and institution. Social disengagement was associated with lower cognitive function, especially in institution, influenced by cognitive activity. Among women, social disengagement was associated with lower cognitive function. The most important component of social engagement are to become a member of social club and active in the community, especially outdoor activities and doing shopping for daily needs. Among women, the most important component of social engagement is to become a member of social club. Cognitive activity with biggest influence on cognitve function are self-cooking and watching news in television."

"Transisi demografi di Indonesia mengubah struktur umur penduduk yang menua. Meningkatnya jumlah penduduk lansia di Indonesia berpotensi besar terhadap permasalahan kesehatan mental, salah satunya Penyakit Demensia. Demensia merupakan stadium akhir dari kemunduran fungsi kognitif, yang sebelumnya diawali dari mudah lupa dan gangguan kognitif ringan MCI . Penelitian sebelumnya di negara lain menunjukkan bahwa salah satu faktor risiko penurunan fungsi kognitif yang dapat dimodifikasi adalah keterlibatan sosial. Namun, penelitian mengenai pengaruh keterlibatan sosial pada konteks negara berkembang khususnya di Indonesia masih terbatas.
Penelitian ini mengukur pengaruh keterlibatan sosial terhadap fungsi kognitif dari 228.216 orang lansia di Indonesia berdasarkan data SUPAS 2015. Keterlibatan sosial lansia diukur melalui kegiatan sosial kemasyarakatan, mengasuh cucu, dan pasangan hidup. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode regresi multinomial logit. Umur, jenis kelamin, pendidikan, gangguan penglihatan, gangguan pendengaran, aktivitas fisik, dan aktivitas kognitif digunakan sebagai variabel kontrol. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa keterlibatan sosial lansia berpengaruh terhadap fungsi kognitif pada lansia di Indonesia. Partisipasi lansia dalam aktivitas sosial kemasyarakatan, mengasuh cucu dan keberadaan pasangan hidup dapat mengurangi risiko gangguan fungsi kognitif MCI dan Demensia pada lansia di Indonesia.

Demographic transition in Indonesia changes the age structure of ageing population. Increasing number of elderly population in Indonesia has big potential to mental health problem, one of them is Dementia Disease. Dementia is the final stage of cognitive decline, preceded by forgetfulness and mild cognitive impairment MCI . Evidence from previous studies in other countries suggests that one potential modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline may be social engagement. However, research that identifies the modifiable risk factors in the context of developing countries, especially in Indonesia is still scarce.
This study analyses the influence of social engagement on cognitive function of 228.216 elderly people in Indonesia from SUPAS 2015. Social engagement is measured through social activities, looking after grandchildren, and the presence of a spouse. This study uses the multinomial logistic regression method. Age, sex, education, visual impairment, hearing loss, physical and cognitive activity are used as covariates. The results suggest that social engagement influences cognitive function of elderly in Indonesia. Participation in social activities, looking after grandchildren and the presence of spouses can reduce the risk of cognitive decline, both MCI and dementia, in the elderly in Indonesia.

Peningkatan stres oksidatif selama penuaan, dianggap sebagai kontributor utama pada proses neuro-degenerasi dan kehilangan neuron, dan merupakan faktor utama dalam patologi penyakit Alzheimer dan penurunan kognitif terkait usia. Vitamin E merupakan antioksidan potensial yang menjadi fokus utama penelitian gangguan fungsi kognitif dan penyakit Alzheimer. Penelitian potong lintang pada populasi lansia sehat di Kelurahan Cikoko ini dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2014 untuk menilai hubungan antara kadar vitamin E serum dengan fungsi kognitif. Selain itu juga menilai asupan vitamin C dan E dengan metode FFQ. Penilaian fungsi kognitif dengan instrumen MoCA-Ina. Pemeriksaan laboratorium untuk mengetahui kadar vitamin E menggunakan metode HPLC. Data dianalisis dengan uji Mann-Whitney dan Chi-square. Sebagian besar subyek (75,9%) adalah perempuan dengan usia rata-rata 65 tahun. Sementara, kadar rata-rata vitamin E adekuat, yaitu 21,6 μmol/L. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan signifikan antara kadar vitamin E serum dengan fungsi kognitif yang dinilai dengan skor MoCA-Ina. Meskipun berat badan normal hingga obes I menunjukkan hubungan signifikan dengan skor kognitif (r = 0,17 p = 0,026), tetapi tidak ada hubungan signifikan antara asupan vitamin C dengan fungsi kognitif (r = 0,19 p = 0,15) atau antara asupan vitamin E dengan fungsi kognitif (r = 0,04, p = 0.72) pada penelitian ini. Kesimpulan, tidak terdapat hubungan antara kadar vitamin E serum dengan fungsi kognitif.

Oxidative stress increases during ageing, is considered as a major contributor to neuro-degeneration and neuronal loss, and is a primary factor in the pathology of both Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline. Vitamin E has been the main focus of investigation in studies of cognitive impairment and alzheimer’s disease during aging as a potent antioxidant. A cross-sectional study of an elderly population in Cikoko Regency in December 2014 was conducted to evaluate the association between serum vitamin E levels and cognitive function in elderly. Correlation between intakes of vitamin C and E as well as Body Mass Index to the MoCA-Ina scores were also investigated. Fifty four elderly were included in the study and interviewed for their vitamins intake using a Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQ). Cognitive function was examined by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Indonesian version (MoCA-Ina). Levels of vitamin E serum were assessed by high performance liquid chromatography. Data were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney and Chi-square test. The majority of the subjects were female (75.9%) with median age 65 years old. While, the median levels of vitamin E was 21.55 μmol/L. The result of this study showed that there was no association between vitamin E level and MoCA-Ina scores. Although normal weight to obese I was significantly associated with cognitive scores (r = 0,17 p = 0.026), no significant correlation between vitamin C intake and cognitive function scores (r = 0.19 p = 0.15) or between vitamin E intake and MoCA-Ina scores were found in this study (r = 0.04, p = 0.72).
