Background: Sleep disturbance is common in chronic rhinitis, primarily caused by nasal congestion. Nasal congestion is also a risk factor for sleep disordered breathing (SDB). SDB refers to a spectrum of breathing abnormalities, one of which includes obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Although many studies have linked sleep disturbance with allergic rhinitis, data regarding its association with nonallergic rhinitis seem to be limited. Aim : To compare the severity of sleep disturbance between allergic and nonallergic rhinitis. Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of 11 subjects with allergic rhinitis and 11 subjects with nonallergic rhinitis at ORL-HNS outpatient clinic, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. NOSE questionnaire was used to assess the degree of nasal obstruction. The severity of sleep disturbance was subjectively assessed using ESS, PSQI, and ISI questionnaires and objectively assessed using polysomnography. Results: No significant differences in NOSE, ESS, RSI, PSQI, and ISI scores were found between both groups (p > 0,05). There was a significant relationship between RDI NREM, RERA, minimum oxygen saturation and baseline oxygen saturation with OSA classification in the chronic rhinitis group (p <0.05). Conclusion: The type of rhinitis (allergic or nonallergic) did not influence the severity of sleep disturbance."

Introduction: Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. is known as one of the herbs that possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Inflammation has been long suggested to be one of the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disorder that is rooted from insulin impairment and beta cell dysfunction. This study objective is to explore the antiinflammatory effect of Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn towards HOMA-IR (Homeostasis Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance) and Interleukin-6 in diabetes mellitus condition.
Methods: Twenty four Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated into six different group; normal control group, normal with 200mg/kgBW of Hibiscus, normal with 500mg/kgBW of Hibiscus, diabetic control, diabetic with 200mg/kgBW of Hibiscus, and diabetic with 500mg/kgBW of Hibiscus. Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. was administered for 5 weeks for the Hibiscus group, and the blood samples of each group are drawn to obtain blood glucose, insulin, and IL-6. IL-6 level was measured using ELISA kit. HOMA-IR statistical significance was checked using non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test and IL-6 statistical significance was calculated using one-way ANOVA.
Results: Rats in diabetic group that are treated with 200mg/kgBW and 500mg/kgBW had lower value of HOMA- IR and IL-6 although there were no statistical significance between both HOMA-IR (p = 0.127) and IL-6 (p = 0.760) group.
Conclusion: This study does not yield statistically significant decrease of both HOMA-IR and IL-6.

Obesity causes chronic inflammation, prolonged oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and degenerative diseases in various organs. Natural phytochemical agents with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antilipidemic activities are extensively studied as therapeutic modalities for obesity and its various adverse effects. This study explores the ability of coriander seeds (Coriandrum sativum L.) ethanolic extract as a neuroprotectant agent and its effect on oxidative stress and cellular senescence in the brain of high-fat diet-induced obese rats. Brain samples from experimental HFD-induced obese rats were given 100 mg/kgBW/day of coriander extract for 12 weeks. MDA concentration, total glutathione (GSH), SA-β-Gal activity, p16INK4a concentration, the concentration of proBDNF, matureBDNF, mature/proBDNF ratio and relative mRNA expression of BDNF gene were examined to determine the effect of coriander seeds extract on oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and increasing brain’s neuroprotective ability. Coriander seeds ethanolic extract is shown to reduce MDA concentration (p < 0.001), decrease SA-β-Gal activity (p ≤ 0.05), and increase total GSH concentration (p ≤ 0.05). Coriander seed extract at 100 mg/kgBW/day did not decrease p16INK4a concentration or increase BDNF mRNA and protein expression. Daily intake of 100 mg/kgBW Coriandrum sativum seeds ethanolic extract improved the state of oxidative stress and cellular senescence but failed to assert a neuroprotective effect on the brains of obese rats."

"This volume mainly contains information on the diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of brain tumors. Insights on the understanding of molecular pathways involved in tumor biology are explained, which should lead to the development of effective drugs. Information on pathways (e.g., hedgehog) facilitates targeted therapies in cancer. Tumor models are also presented, which utilize expression data, pathway sensitivity, and genetic abnormalities, representing targets in cancer. For example, rat model of malignant brain tumors using implantation of doxorubicin with drug eluting beads for delivery is explained. The future of pathway-driven therapies for tumors is summarized. The importance of personalizing cancer care is emphasized. The need for supportive measures for survivors of brain cancer is pointed out, so is the quality of life monitoring. The need of rehabilitation therapy for patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors is also emphasized. Role of MicroRNA in distinguishing primary tumors from metastatic primary tumors is discussed. Advantages and limitations of chemotherapy (e.g., temozolomide and doxorubicin) are discussed. The complexity of tumor to tumor transfer is explained; examples discussed are: brain metastases from breast cancer and brain metastases fro non-small cell lung carcinoma. Identification and characterization of biomarkers, including those for metastatic brain tumors, are presented. Genomic analysis for identifying clinically relevant subtypes of glioblastoma is included. A large number of imaging modalities are detailed to study progression and invasion of gliomas."

"Research over the past decade has begun to show the many ways in which work affects sleep, and sleep affects work; this book brings all these research findings together in a state-of-the-art review. The book opens with a chapter on sleep disorders meant to ground organizational researchers in the science of sleep. Workplace issues that have benefitted from research for decades, such as shift work, occupational safety and road and transportation are covered in detail. In addition, emerging topics such as the intersection of sleep and work stress and non-work experiences, mood and emotions, energy management, unethical behaviors and work withdrawal (e.g., absenteeism) are considered in detail. Given the changing demographic composition of many workplaces, a separate chapter focuses on sleep and older workers. The book concludes with a consideration of how this information must now be integrated into the curricula of all business programs to enhance the practice of management, and individual and organizational functioning."
