""How have Westerners seen the People's Republic of China over the years? The question raises many important issues, which this book aims to present, analyze and explain. The basic conclusion is that Western perspectives are somewhat more complex than simply viewing China's realities. Involved also are politics and power relations, trends in journalism and scholarship, as well as individual and group personalities and psychologies. Based on extensive personal experiences in China dating back to 1964 and wide-ranging travel in Tibet and ethnic regions since the 1980s, the author attempts to distinguish trends in different Western countries. However, most of the material will concern the United States, which has been the dominant contributor to Western perspectives during the whole period of concern to this book. The perspectives are taken up by topic, including politics, economy, society, and ethnic minorities. Inherent in each topic is the way cultures see and react towards each other. Images and perspectives can affect policy, and have done so many times in the past, which adds to the importance of this book. It also takes up questions of the sources of Western perspectives, both in terms of direct sources, such as newspapers, television or the internet, and deeper ones, such as social values and temperament."--"

"Artikel ini membahas tentang implementasi konsep Kebangkitan Damai Tiongkok dalam kebijakan luar negeri RRT era kepemimpinan Presiden Hu Jintao (2003—2013). Konsep Kebangkitan Damai Tiongkok ini dikemukakan untuk memberikan visi yang kredibel mengenai masa depan hubungan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok dengan dunia internasional pasca muncul dan berkembangnya berbagai opini hingga teori tentang Ancaman Tiongkok pada tahun 1990-an. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada artikel ini adalah metode penelitian sejarah, yang mencakup proses heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Artikel ini juga membahas sejauh mana peran konsep Kebangkitan Damai Tiongkok mampu menekan stigma yang muncul dari teori Ancaman Tiongkok dan bentuk implementasinya pada kebijakan luar negeri RRT era pemerintahan Hu Jintao. Hasil analisis atas perkembangan politik Luar Negeri RRT era 2003—2013 menunjukan bahwa keputusan Hu Jintao untuk mengimplementasikan konsep Kebangkitan Damai Tiongkok dalam kebijakan luar negeri terbukti efektif untuk meredam teori Ancaman Tiongkok dan meyakinkan banyak negara untuk menaruh kepercayaan terhadap RRT. Hal itu antara lain terbukti dari meningkatnya kerja sama antara RRT dengan organisasi internasional maupun negara-negara di dunia.

This article discuss about the implementation of China Peaceful Rise Concept on People’s Republic of China foreign policy under Hu Jintao (2003-2013). The concept of China peaceful rise was proposed to provide a credible vision on the People's Republic of China's future relations with the international world after a large number of opinions to theory about China Threat that emerged and developed in the 1990s. The research method used in this article is the historical research method, which includes the process of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. This article also discusses the role of this concept in suppressing the stigma formed by Chinese threat theory and it’s implementation on China’s foreign policy under Hu Jintao. The results analysis on the development of Chinese foreign policy in the 2003-2013 era showed that Hu Jintao's decision to implement the concept of China Peaceful Rise on China foreign policy proved to be effective in suppressing the Chinese Threat theory and convincing many countries to put their trust in China. This was proved by the increased cooperation between China and international organizations and many countries all over the world."
