"The "Rudolf Mössbauer story" recounts the history of the discovery of the "Mössbauer Effect" in 1958 by Rudolf Mössbauer as a graduate student of Heinz Maier-Leibnitz for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1961 when he was 32 years old. The development of numerous applications of the Mössbauer Effect in many fields of sciences , such as physics, chemistry, biology and medicine is reviewed by experts who contributed to this wide spread research. In 1978 Mössbauer focused his research interest on a new field "Neutrino Oscillations" and later on the study of the properties of the neutrinos emitted by the sun."

"PT. X merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang bergcrak di bidang penerbitan majalah, yang mengangkat fenomena seputar "tren tempat tinggal". Saat ini PT X sedang mengalami permasalahan terkait dengan kinenja pemimpin redaksi. Berdasarkan wawancara yang dilakukan kepada pihak manajemen PT. X disebutkan bahwa kompetensi pemimpin redaksi selama ini jauh dari apa yang diharapkan. Pemimpin umum PT. X beranggapan bahwa pemred tidak menunjukkan kinerja yang maksimal sebagai pemimpin redaksi. Keluhan yang disampaikan adalah kinerja pemred sclama ini dinilai kurang produktif, hal ini disebabkan karena pemimpin redaksi tidak memiliki kemampuan yang dibutuhkan dalam melaksanakan tugasnya. Proscs pengangkatan pemimpin redaksi selarna ini didasarkan pada keputusan beberapa orang level pemimpin di PT. X. Parameter untuk menilai kemampuan seorang karyawan yang digunakan di perusahaan dilakukan melalui observasi selama ia bekerja dan penilaian langsung olch pemimpin perusahaan.
Proses penempatan yang tidak melalui suatu proses, diduga menjadi salah satu penyebab kurang efektilhya kinerja pemimpin nedaksi. Untuk mengatasi kondisi tersebut, dlperlukan suatu model kompetensi pada jabatan pemimpin redaksi untuk dapat digunakan oleh PT. X dalam memilih dan rnenempatkan seorang staf redaksi untuk memegang jabatan pemred yang akan bcrakhirjabatannya dalam waktu dekat. Oleh karena itu penulis mengusulkan unmk menyusun suatu model kompetensi spesiflk untuk jabatan Pemimpin Redaksi, termasuk di dalamnya penentuan level dan indikator perilaku untuk setiap kompetensi. Penulis mengajukan 6 kompetensi spesiflk untuk Pemimpin Redaksi PT. X. Kompetensi spesiflk tersebut adalah Managing Others, Planning & Organizing Entrepreneurial Skill, Networking, Crealivity, dan Concern for Excellent.
PT. X is one of the publishing companies who focus on exploiting current housing trend phenomena. lt is in now in trouble conceming editor in chiefs performance. Management mentioned in the interview that editor in chiefs competency is far from the expected. The director assumes that he hasn’t show the optimum performance so far. This happens because the person in charge doesn’t have enough ability to meet his requirement. Moreover, this lack of competency leads to disrespect from his inferiors which also cause the motivational decreasing. The worst scenario would be that the company would be hard to survive from competitor’s attack. The process in appointing the person in charge is based on managerial decisions, but not always in some organizing standardization process, like competency assessment. For all this time, company uses observation and judgment from direct supervisor as the parameter to assess someone’s capability. The lack of standardization in this company’s mapping system is accused as the reason for chief in editorial`s inefficiency. To deal with that, the company needs a competency model for this position to choose and put the right person as the editorial chief For that, author suggests to design a specific competency model for the position of editor in chief; including all behavioral level and indicator for each of them. Based on the interviews with all the job holders, author proposes 6 specific competencies for chief editor. Those competencies are Managing Others, Planning & Organizing, Entrepreneurial Skill, Networking, Creativity, dan Concem for Excellent."
