"This clearly written, self-contained volume studies the basic equations of kinetic theory in all of space. It contains up-to-date, state-of-the-art treatments of initial-value problems for the major kinetic equations, including the Boltzmann equation (from rarefied gas dynamics) and the Vlasov-Poisson/Vlasov-Maxwell systems (from plasma physics). This is the only existing book to treat Boltzmann-type problems and Vlasov-type problems together. Although these equations describe very different phenomena, they share the same streaming term.
The author proves that solutions starting from a given configuration at an initial time exist for all future times by imposing appropriate hypotheses on the initial values in several important cases. He emphasizes those questions that a mathematician would ask first: Is there a solution to this problem? Is it unique? Can it be numerically approximated?
The topics treated include the study of the Boltzmann collision operator, the study of the initial-value problem for the Boltzmann equation with "small" and "near equilibrium" data, global smooth solvability of the initial-value problem for the Vlasov-Poisson system with smooth initial data of unrestricted size, conditions under which the initial-value problem for the Vlasov-Maxwell system has global-in-time solutions (in both the smooth and weak senses), and more."

"Perancangan obat baru merupakan permasalahan penting dalam industri farmasi. Metode in silico dianggap lebih produktif dalam proses perancangan obat karena keefektifitasannya yang tinggi. Dalam proses perancangan obat secara in silico, dibutuhkan struktur tiga dimensi dari senyawa kimia. Struktur tiga dimensi dapat diperoleh secara eksperimental dan komputasional. Struktur tiga dimensi yang diperoleh secara komputasional seringkali mengalami ketidaksesuaian stuktur sehingga memengaruhi validitas perancangan obat secara in silico. Pada penelitian sebelumnya, dibuat basis data herbal dengan 1405 senyawa. Dalam basis data tersebut, ditemukan ketidaksesuaian struktur tiga dimensi dari senyawa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan memperbaiki ketidaksesuaian struktur tersebut. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk menemukan metode terbaik dalam pembuatan struktur tiga dimensi. Identifikasi ketidaksesuaian dilakukan pada 1405 struktur tiga dimensi senyawa dari Laboratorium Komputasi Biomedik dan Rancangan Obat Fakultas Farmasi Universitas Indonesia dengan visualisasi menggunakan perangkat lunak PyMOL. Identifikasi menghasilkan 170 senyawa yang diperbaiki dengan beberapa parameter menggunakan perangkat lunak MarvinSketch dan Vega ZZ. Hasil visualisasi perbaikan menunjukan bahwa struktur tiga dimensi senyawa dengan format .mol dan .sdf yang dibuat menggunakan perangkat lunak MarvinSketch dengan force field dreiding memberikan hasil struktur tiga dimensi paling sesuai.
Development of novel drugs is an important issue in the pharmaceutical industry. The in silico method is considered to refine the process of drug design because it lowers the cost. In in silico drug discovery process, a three dimensional structure of the chemical compound is required. Computational three dimensional structures often experience structural mismatch affecting the validity of the in silico drug design process. In the previous study, a herbal database with 1405 compounds were made. In this database, structural mismatches were found in some of the three dimensional structures. This study is aimed to identify and fix the structural mismatch. This study also aims to find the best method in creating three dimensional structure of compounds. Identification of the structural mismatches were done on the herbal database by molecular visualization. The identification process yields 170 compounds with structural mismatch that were fixed with a few different parameters using MarvinSketch and VegaZZ software. The result of the final structure visualization shows that the three dimensional structure of the compound with the .mol and .sdf file format created using Dreiding force fields of MarvinSketch as the best result of three dimensional structures."
