"This volume focuses on the broad pattern of increasing biodiversity through time, and recurrent events of minor and major ecosphere reorganization. Intense scrutiny is devoted to the pattern of physical (including isotopic), sedimentary and biotic circumstances through the time intervals during which life crises occurred. These events affected terrestrial, lacustrine and estuarine ecosystems, locally and globally, but have affected continental shelf ecosystems and even deep ocean ecosystems. The pattern of these events is the backdrop against which modelling the pattern of future environmental change needs to be evaluated."

Coal is basic commodity in several provinces that have great potential in Indonesia, including the Province of South Sumatra. The non-fulfillment of domestic coal supply through the ‘Domestic Market Obligation’ system from year to year is an indicator that coal is sold by export with the orientation of obtaining maximum income. In the sustainable development paradigm, production that depends on export demand is considered to make economic be volatile and create negative externalities. In Evolutionary Economic Geography, Path Dependence approach is used in this study to unravel this conditions based on tracing historical process of South Sumatra Province as a coal exporting region formed by institutions, and examines this condition being locked the place identity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of institutions in shaping and lock the identity of the province of South Sumatra as a Coal Exporting Region. The qualitative approach used in this research is desk research for and related history literature around Indonesia post-independence period, and conducting in-depth interviews with institutions this era. The results of the study was concluded that institutional from time to time gave contributions in various forms and continued to develop, then the related institutions locked the place identity of South Sumatra Province as a coal exporting region."

"The research paper "Extinction risk from climate change" published in the journal Nature in January 2004 created front-page headlines around the world. The notion that climate change could drive more than a million species to extinction captured both the popular imagination and the attention of policy-makers, and provoked an unprecedented round of scientific critique.
Saving a Million Species reconsiders the central question of that paper: How many species may perish as a result of climate change and associated threats? Leaders from a range of disciplines synthesize the literature, refine the original estimates, and elaborate the conservation and policy implications."
