Aarts, Bas
"his successful textbook gives students a thorough grounding in the basics of sentence structure and acquaints them with the essentials of syntactic argument. Now updated and expanded, the third edition features an additional chapter on grammatical indeterminacy, a case study on subordinating conjunctions and prepositions, and new exercise."

Radford, Andrew
"This textbook provides a concise, readable introduction to contemporary work in syntactic theory, particularly to key concepts of Chomsky's minimalist program. Andrew Radford gives a general overview of the main theoretical concepts and descriptive devices used in 1990s work. Syntax: a Minimalist Introduction presupposes no prior knowledge of syntax or any language other than English: the analysis is based on Standard, Belfast, Jamaican, Shakespearean and Child English. There are exercises (with helpful hints and model answers) and a substantial glossary."

"Andrew Radford’s latest textbook, Minimalist syntax : exploring the structure of English, provides a clear and accessible introduction to current work in syntactic theory, drawing on the key concepts of Chomsky’s Minimalist Program. Assuming little or no prior knowledge of syntactic theory, Radford takes students through a diverse range of topics in English syntax, such as categories and features, merger, null constituents, movement, case, split projections and phases, and shows how the ‘computational component’ works within the minimalist framework. Beginning at an elementary level, the book introduces grammatical concepts and sets out the theoretical foundations of Principles and Parameters and Universal Grammar, before progressing in stages towards more
complex phenomena. Each chapter contains a workbook section, in which students are encouraged to make their own analyses of English phrases and sentences through exercises, model answers and ‘helpful hints’. There is also an extensive glossary of terms. Although designed primarily for courses on syntactic theory or English syntax, this book also provides an up-to-date, clear and straightforward introduction to the field."

Indonesian students often face difficulties when they have to write in English, especially in forming accurate and acceptable sentences. This research aims to describe the kinds of errors which occur in students' writing, to find the dominant errors, and to seek the most possible factors causing those errors. The research data were collected from the students' writing in English Research Writing course year 2011-2012. This research used descriptive analysis method. The data were analized by classifying the errors using linguistic category, surface structure category, and communication effect category from Dulay (1982). The main theories used in this research were taken from Corder (1973), Selinker (1972), and Richards (1973). The research findings indicated that the hypothesis was confirmed only for frequent and dominant errors found in using determiners in noun phrase category."

"Auxiliaries are one of the most complex areas of English syntax. Disagreement over both the principles and details of their grammar has been substantial. Anthony Warner here offers a new and detailed account of both their synchronic and diachronic properties. He first argues that lexical properties are central to their grammar, which is relatively nonabstract. He then traces in detail the history of processes of grammaticalization in their devel- opment, and claims most notably that we can identify a group of auxiliaries in English from an early period on formal, not just semantic, grounds. This book meets the dual challenge of accounting for both the grammar and the history of the English auxiliary. It will be essential reading for all those interested in English syntax and its history."
