"[ABSTRAKJohn Green?s The Fault in Our Stars and Jenny Downham?s Before I Die are the two most prominent teen sick-lit in the last few years. Using these two novels, this study seeks to examine the relationship between death, sexuality, and abjection. This study also aims to explore how teen sick-lit with death as its ending fares to its implied young readers. The findings contend that sexuality is used by the protagonists in both novels as a tool to cope with death and counter abjection they experience in order to conform to socially accepted behavior and still be considered normal. It also shows that death as an ending may give young readers a dose of reality when reading a fiction. This study contributes to the scarce literature on teen sick-lit, providing a framework why the expression of sexuality is heavily manifested in the characters which suffer from terminal physical illnesses.

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk meneliti hubungan antara kematian, seksualitas, dan abjeksi dalam kedua novel tersebut dan bagaimana teen sick-lit dengan kematian sebagai akhir cerita berdampak pada pembaca mudanya.
