"Tropical savannas and dry forests in Indonesia are important types of ecosystems which provide habitat to support various endemic wildlife. Several of these endemic species are now seriously threatened and accordingly have high conservation status according to IUCN, including the Bali starling (Leucopsar rotschildi) which is mostly now restricted to the Bali Barat National Park. Given the high extinction risk facing such species, conservation programmes are likely to require multidisciplinary approaches that address both the biological attributes of the species itself, as well as their habitat requirements. Regrettably, for many species, their habitat ecology remains inadequately understood. The objectives of this paper are to: 1) characterise the habitat of the Bali starling in terms of structure and floristic composition; and 2) document evidence of vegetation cover changes in the Bali Barat National Park. Analysis of remote sensing imagery as well as field sampling for vegetation attributes was conducted to address these objectives. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was calculated from Landsat imageries using red and near infrared bands. Tree cover percentage data were downloaded from Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF) product from the University of Maryland’s website. Results showed that forest and savanna are the dominant land cover types in the Bali Barat National Park but their distribution is somewhat dynamic with changes in vegetation cover and greenness found across the years in which increasing cover of woody plants is the general trend. In the Bali Barat National Park, the Bali starling is mostly found at or near distinct vegetation boundaries, such as the border between savanna-forest; savanna-cropland; savanna-shrubland; settlement-cropland; and forest-shrubland. Although Cekik area had planted species that has been known to be able to provide shelter and food for Bali Starling (so was Brumbun), the bird has not been observed to be presence in the area since the 1990s. These results further confirm the importance of examining habitat patterns of endemic bird within a landscape that are influenced by multiple factors that interact in space and time. Addressing data shortage in habitat patterns within endemic species distribution is important for conservation managers developing conservation management strategies. Evaluating the remaining habitat of the species is important for conservation of Bali starling and useful for the reintroduction and release program to their natural habitat."

ABSTRACT
Bali starling is a species endemic of the Bali Island and in the category of protected animals. Bali starling population declines due to land conversion factor so that the source of food and nesting places in the Bali Barat National Park is reduced. Bali starling life requirements for habitat suitability covering altitude region, distance from the river, vegetation type, distance from settlements and distance from the road variable. By determining the suitability index and aided by the weighting method and overlay analysis will be obtained suitability region of Bali starling?s habitat. The most suitable areas for the Bali starling?s habitat has the characteristics of the lowland areas, such as monsoon forest vegetation and savanna, close to the river and away from settlements and roads access."

Climate change mitigation regarding mangrove forest management has received significantly in international attention over the past decade, but it is lack of reliable data to quantify how much carbon stock is available. The mangrove forest in Bali Province is divided into three habitat types such as open bay beach located in West Bali National Park, semi closed bay beach located in Tahura Ngurah Rai and small island beach located in protected forest of Nusa Lembongan. The research aim is to analyze the relationship between carbon stock characteristics of mangrove forest with the different type and morphology of mangrove forest habitat. Biomass calculations was carried out using the allometric formula, however the similar allometric equations can produce different accuracy at different locations. The calculation of mangrove forest carbon stock for semi closed bay beach habitat has the highest estimation value of 51.35 tons/ha with a positive relationship pattern of 60%, in the other hand, the lowest carbon stock value is in open bay beach is 26.28 tons/ha with positive pattern of relation equal to 48%. This study indicates that each type of mangrove forest habitat has it's own charasteristics to the living ecosystem in it's territory and this affects to the carbon value."

Partisipan melengkapi kuesioner dry eye Indonesia dan ocular surface disease index (OSDI), kemudian dilakukan uji tear break up time (TBUT), tear break up pattern (TBUP), pewarnaan okular, dan Schirmer.

Background: Diagnosis of dry eye disease (DED) is established through a series of examinations of subjective symptoms and objective clinical signs. Unfortunately, diagnostic tools are not always available in healthcare facilities, making valid and reliable questionnaires an alternative for diagnosis. Indonesian dry eye questionnaire developed for the Indonesian population has not yet been validated with an ideal number of questions. Objective: To obtain valid and reliable diagnostic questions for the Indonesian dry eye questionnaire and to determine the clinical correlation between subjective symptoms and objective clinical signs of DED in patients. Methods: This study consists of three stages: (1) focus group discussion (FGD) to assess the content validity index (CVI), (2) pretesting to evaluate cognitive debriefing, validity, and reliability in 30 samples, and (3) testing to assess the validity, reliability, and clinical correlation with objective clinical signs in 60 participants. Participants completed the Indonesian dry eye questionnaire and the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), followed by testing tear break-up time (TBUT), tear break-up pattern (TBUP), ocular staining, and Schirmer. Results: Thenumber of questions in the Indonesian dry eye questionnaire from the previous study was 31 items, narrowed down to 14 items through FGD with a CVI value of 0.98. In the pretesting stage, all items were found to be understandable by all subjects with good validity and reliability. In the testing phase, 10 questionnaire items showed good validity assessed from corrected item total correlation and reliability assessed from Cronbach’s alpha. The questionnaire demonstrated a sensitivity of 91.1%, specificity of 100%, and an AUC of 98.2% (95% CI 94.4%-100%), with a diagnostic cutoff score for DED at 10.5. The Indonesian dry eye questionnaire score showed a strong positive correlation with OSDI score (r=0.808; p<0.001) and a weak negative correlation (r=- 0.339; p=0.008) with TBUT, but no significant correlation was found with Schirmer and ocular staining. Conclusion: The diagnostic section of the Indonesian dry eye questionnaire has excellent validity, reliability, sensitivity, and specificity for diagnosing DED. Clinical correlations were found between the questionnaire score and OSDI score and TBUT."

Mangrove forests have an essential role in reducing the impact of global warming in urban and surrounding areas, one of which is through carbon sequestration. Carbon sequestration is needed to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The capacity of carbon sequestration or carbon stocks of mangrove forests can be seen from its biomass value. This study aims to analyze the distribution of mangrove forest carbon stock and its relationship with the mangrove forest area's physical condition. The distribution of carbon stocks in the study area was analyzed using a vegetation index approach and statistical regression analysis. The vegetation indices used are ARVI, SAVI, and EVI obtained from processing Sentinel 2-A satellite imagery. The value of mangrove forest biomass is obtained from the allometric equation. The results showed that the distribution of carbon stocks in almost all the mangrove forests of Benoa Bay had increased carbon stocks every year. The relationship between carbon stock changes and mangrove areas' physical condition tends to be positive. The connection is evidenced by three of the four physical parameters of the site that have a positive relationship: temperature, salinity, and vegetation types."
