"This book highlights computationally enabled and digitally fabricated strategies used in the design of a series of full-size wooden structures. It introduces theoretical foundations and then focuses on the possibilities that have emerged as a result of the material-aware processes. The case studies expound wood as one of the most suitable materials to experience the seamless framework introduced with the digital design-to-construction chain. Two main aspects of the pavilions constructed, developed in various international academic groups, are considered. On one hand the case studies explore tolerances of raw and engineered material intertwined with machine processing; they also address material enhancement through strip applications in timber construction. In addition, the structures are examined in the light of an extensible designing path, which acts as an interoperable procedure, bridging the virtual and the real."

The bow of the ship is the first part that will hit the running water when the ship moves forward. In the submarine, the bow shape is very influential both on the laying of acoustic equipment, and for the magnitude of resistance to be generated. This study focuses on reviewing the influence of the bow shape on submarines without appandages to the characteristics of its resistance. The bow will be varied based on the Hull Envelope equation that governs the bow shape design on the submarine. The computational simulation with CFD is chosen as a method to predict the result. The results show that nf 2 is the most optimum bow shape with the lowest total resistance value that has a large enough extent."

"This book reports on a novel concept of mechanism transitions for the design of highly scalable and adaptive publish/subscribe systems. First, it introduces relevant mechanisms for location-based filtering and locality-aware dissemination of events based on a thorough review of the state-of-the-art. This is followed by a detailed description of the design of a transition-enabled publish/subscribe system that enables seamless switching between mechanisms during runtime. Lastly, the proposed concepts are evaluated within the challenging context of location-based mobile applications. The book assesses in depth the performance and cost of transition execution, highlighting the impact of the proposed state transfer mechanism and the potential of coexisting transition-enabled mechanisms."

"This book provides a comprehensive overview of the photonic sensing field by covering plasmonics, photonic crystal, and SOI techniques from theory to real sensing applications. A literature review of ultra-sensitive photonic sensors, including their design and application in industry, makes this a self-contained and comprehensive resource for different types of sensors, with high value to the biosensor sector in particular. The book is organized into four parts: Part I covers the basic theory of wave propagation, basic principles of sensing, surface plasmon resonance, and silicon photonics; Part II details the computational modeling techniques for the analysis and prediction of photonic sensors; Part III and Part IV cover the various mechanisms and light matter interaction scenarios behind the design of photonic sensors including photonic crystal fiber sensors and SOI sensors. This book is appropriate for academics and researchers specializing in photonic sensors; graduate students in the early and intermediate stages working in the areas of photonics, sensors, biophysics, and biomedical engineering; and to biomedical, environmental, and chemical engineers."

"These Transactions publish research in computer-based methods of computational collective intelligence (CCI) and their applications in a wide range of fields such as the Semantic Web, social networks and multiagent systems. TCCI strives to cover new methodological, theoretical and practical aspects of CCI understood as the form of intelligence that emerges from the collaboration and competition of many individuals (artificial and/or natural). The application of multiple computational intelligence technologies such as fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, neural systems, consensus theory, etc., aims to support human and other collective intelligence and to create new forms of CCI in natural and/or artificial systems. This eighth issue contains a collection of ten carefully selected and thorougly revised contributions."
