"This book addresses the design challenges in near-field wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, such as high efficiency, compact size, and long transmission range. It presents new low-profile designs for the TX/RX structures using different shapes of defected ground structures (DGS) like (H, semi-H, and spiral-strips DGS). Most near-field WPT systems depend on magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) using 3-D wire loops or helical antennas, which are often bulky. This, in turn, poses technical difficulties in their application in small electronic devices and biomedical implants. To obtain compact structures, printed spiral coils (PSCs) have recently emerged as a candidate for low-profile WPT systems. However, most of the MRC WPT systems that use PSCs have limitations in the maximum achievable efficiency due to the feeding method. Inductive feeding constrains the geometric dimensions of the main transmitting (TX)/receiving (RX) resonators, which do not achieve the maximum achievable unloaded quality factor. This book will be of interest to researchers and professionals working on WPT-related problems."

Wireless power transfer (WPT) has many applications especially for elctronic devie charging such as biomedic implants, low powered devices (smartphone and smart watch), and high powered devices (electronic vehicles). Although, a WPT with simple design that provides decent efficiency is still a challenge because most of developed WPT has complexity added to its circuit with the addition of DC-DC converters such as Class E converters. This research presents a WPT using IPT method as a bridge between transmitter and receiver which coils are made by hands. The simulation with ideal components resulted with an average efficiency of 77.25%, simulation with non-ideal comonents resulting in 46.17%, and the designed circuit on a protoboard with 41.62% average efficiency with the highest point in 45.90%."

"Wireless power transmission is being investigated as a means to operate tiny medical devices such as the capsular endoscope, which is able to exist for a long period during diagnostic procedures within the body. In this paper, we examine the wireless power transmission to a capsular endoscope by electromagnetic waves to show its usability for medical applications. A modified helical antenna inside the endoscope is proposed as a power receiving antenna, operating at 915 MHz. By calculating a maximum received power in the stomach using such antenna, the results show that adequate power can be well received."

Currently, the utilization of wireless power transfer to provide power for medical implants is crucial in minimizing the need for repeated surgical procedures for battery replacement. However, conventional Wireless Power and Data Transfer (WPDT) systems have two inductive coils, requiring complex circuitry and a large area. In this study, a single-coil WPDT transmitter circuit with amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation is proposed, which is compact and capable of achieving high efficiency. Two parallel capacitors connected in series with the transmitter coil enable power and data transfer operations to be in optimal condition. Circuit testing at the PCB level achieved an efficiency of 40.47% and can be improved up to 96.44% within the frequency range of 8.5 MHz to 11"

Biomedical implant technology is one of the most widely used technologies today. The technology utilizes the WPT system to transmit its energy. One of the important parts of WPT is PA. In this research, a 13.56 MHz PA that can reach PAE up to 80% and gain up to 20 dB has been designed. This PA used Class A configurations with Class AB operation. This PA could produce an output power up to 10 dBm or approximately 10 mW. The design process started from simulation using ADS (Advanced Design System) 2020 to observe and analyze PAE, gain, and output power. Based on simulation, this PA could reach PAE up to 87.48%, gain up to 41.44 dBm, and P1dB of 12.39 dBm. The next step of the design process is designing a PCB layout based on the schematic on ADS 2020 using available components. The PCB layout was printed and tested. Based on the PCB testing result, this PCB could reach PAE up to 14.58%, gain up to 39.1 dB, and P1dB of 12.4 dBm."

"This book describes a flexible and largely automated methodology for adding the estimation of power consumption to high level simulations at the electronic system level (ESL). This method enables the inclusion of power consumption considerations from the very start of a design. This ability can help designers of electronic systems to create devices with low power consumption. The authors also demonstrate the implementation of the method, using the popular ESL language “SystemC”. This implementation enables most existing SystemC ESL simulations for power estimation with very little manual work. Extensive case-studies of a Network on Chip communication architecture and a dual-core application processor “ARM Cortex-A9” showcase the applicability and accuracy of the method to different types of electronic devices. The evaluation compares various trade-offs regarding amount of manual work, types of ESL models, achieved estimation accuracy and impact on the simulation speed.
- Describes a flexible and largely automated ESL power estimation method;
- Shows implementation of power estimation methodology in SystemC;
- Uses two extensive case studies to demonstrate method introduced."

"This book consists of the identification, characterization, and modeling of electromagnetic interferences in substations for the deployment of wireless sensor networks. The authors present in chapter 3 the measurement setup to record sequences of impulsive noise samples in the ISM band of interest. The setup can measure substation impulsive noise, in wide band, with enough samples per time window and enough precision to allow a statistical study of the noise. During the measurement campaign, the authors recorded around 120 noise sequences in different substations and for four ranges of equipment voltage, which are 25 kV, 230 kV, 315 kV and 735 kV. A characterization process is proposed, by which physical characteristics of partial discharge can be measured in terms of first- and second-order statistics. From the measurement campaign, the authors infer the characteristics of substation impulsive noise as a function of the substation equipment voltage, and can provide representative parameters for the four voltage ranges and for several existing impulsive noise models."
