This work is aimed to construct a contrast detail structured phantom for mammography and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis. The study was divided into 3 stages: production, validation and application. Production stage covered materials preparation, design and fabrication phantom. In validation stage, the phantom was compared to clinical mammogram in terms of exposure settings used in the image acquisition and their pixel values. Last stage was to study the application of the phantom to assess the image quality of mammography and DBT systems in terms of signal difference-to-noise ratio (SDNR), and sharpness (fullwidth half maximum, FWHM and artifact spread function, ASF) at 3 dose level (1/2 × automatic exposure control (AEC), AEC and 2 × AEC settings). The contrast detail structured phantom was successfully created with variations on microcalcification object size and position. In comparison with clinical mammogram, maximum pixel value of Sn sphere shows 85,34 % similarity while their background tissue had 86,07 % similarity. The study of applications of the phantom shows that the phantom can be used to assess the image quality particularly to detail of microcalcifications. The position of targets and dose level settings afflicted the measured parameters. The contrast detail structured phantom has been successfully construct and studied; this phantom allows assessing image quality of digital mammography and DBT by including the presence of structured breast tissue -like
