"The oldest written text in Javanese literature is Candrakiraṇa, one of its parts, the Amaramālā, mentions “Indra” as a king of the Śailendra dynasty. This work is essential because it includes various elements of prosody which the authors of kakawin needed to compose their literary work. For many years, some Javanese scholars had been debating the proper name of this text, using only one manuscript, LOr 4570, a copy of the incomplete gebang manuscript from the PNRI, which does not have a prologue or an epilogue mentioning its precise name. However, reading L 298, a lontar in the Merapi-Merbabu Collection, this manuscript clearly demonstrates that the name of this oldest text is Candrakiraṇa. This begs the question: Is there any relationship between the name and the content itself? This article presents pertinent arguments indicating that the name proposed can be accounted for both factually and conceptually."

"Literary and epigraphic references to the figure of pañji in Old Javanese texts are analysed, and contextualised with much better known references to the figure of Pañji in Middle Javanese texts. A hypothesis is offered that Old Javanese term pañji is best rendered as 'court-name’. It is argued that young boys from elite families obtained their familiar court-name (pañji) at the very onset of their career at the court, where they served as pages and attendants of the royal family. They were also trained in arms, religious lore, and arts. Being since their childhood close to the king, they were trusted persons, and some of them made careers as high-ranking court officials, such as Dəmung or Kanuruhan. Others, denoted ācārya, were trained as 'masters of divine weapons’, Tantric ritual specialists, who were in charge of the so-called 'divine weaponry’ (diwyāstra), mantra-infused ordinary weapons, an arsenal well-known in Old and Middle Javanese texts. Vestiges of this ritual lore have survived in Java until modern times."

"Penelitian ini mengkaji ajaran sufisme dalam budaya Jawa yang tercermin pada naskah Suluk Sandi Pratistha (SSP). Sufisme jawa dalam teks ini penting untuk dibahas karena memberikan ajaran atau tahapan dalam mencapai insan kamil atau kesempurnaan diri. Naskah SSP tersimpan dalam koleksi Mangkunegaran, dengan kode koleksi MN 316 A 66. Sebagai salah satu teks suluk yang berfungsi untuk memberikan ajaran keagamaan, filsafat, dan etika, SSP memuat ajaran sufisme Islam yang bersinggungan dengan kebudayaan Jawa. Maka dari itu masalah utama dalam penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: 1) Bagaimana menyajikan teks naskah SSP agar dapat dipahami oleh pembaca? ; dan 2) Bagaimana ajaran sufisme Jawa terkandung dalam teks naskah SSP? Sejalan dengan rumusan masalah tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan integrasi sufisme Jawa dalam teks naskah SSP. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan filologi dan sufisme Jawa untuk mengkaji teks naskah SSP. Melalui analisis filologis, penelitian ini menyajikan teks naskah secara jelas dan mudah dimengerti oleh pembaca. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mengeksplorasi ajaran sufisme Jawa yang terkandung dalam naskah SSP, termasuk konsep-konsep seperti distansi, konsentrasi, iluminasi, dan insan kamil yang mengacu pada pandangan Simuh (1995). Melalui praktik tersebut teks SSP menyediakan kerangka kerja komprehensif untuk mencapai perkembangan spiritual yang tinggi.

This study examines the teachings of Sufism in Javanese culture as reflected in the Suluk Sandi Pratistha (SSP) manuscript. Javanese Sufism in this text is important to discuss because it provides teachings or stages in achieving insan kamil or self-perfection. The SSP manuscript is stored in the Mangkunegaran collection, with collection code MN 316 A 66. As one of the suluk texts that functions to provide religious, philosophical and ethical teachings, SSP contains Islamic Sufism teachings that intersect with Javanese culture. Therefore, the main problems in this research are as follows: 1) How to present the SSP manuscript text so that it can be understood by readers; and 2) How are Javanese Sufism teachings contained in the SSP manuscript text? In line with the formulation of the problem, this research aims to explain the integration of Javanese Sufism in the SSP manuscript text. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a philological approach and Javanese Sufism to study the SSP manuscript text. Through philological analysis, this research presents the manuscript text clearly and easily understood by readers. In addition, this study also explores the teachings of Javanese Sufism contained in the SSP manuscript, including concepts such as distancing, concentration, illumination, and insan kamil that refer to the views of Simuh (1995). Through these practices the SSP text provides a comprehensive framework for achieving high spiritual development."

"Karya sastra merupakan representasi kenyataan sosial yang di dalamnya mengandung nilai-nilai kehidupan. Salah satu bentuk karya sastra adalah film. Penelitian ini membahas apa nilai-nilai etika Jawa yang terkandung dalam film pendek Tanah Kalurahan karya Paniradya Kaistimewan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk memahami etika Jawa melalui analisis struktur logis dan representasi budaya Jawa mendasarkan pada konsep etika Jawa sebagaimana disampaikan oleh Magnis-Suseno (1984), serta bagaimana etika tersebut direpresentasikan melalui bahasa, tanda, dan gambar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan objektif melalui analisis dialog dan tangkapan layar dari adegan film. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode Miles dan Huberman (1992) yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini berfokus pada empat topik etika Jawa yaitu: sikap batin yang tepat, tindakan yang tepat dalam dunia, tempat yang tepat, dan pengertian yang tepat. Hasil penelitian menemukan representasi nilai etika Jawa melalui dua unen-unen bahasa Jawa yaitu sepi ing pamrih rame ing gawe dan andhap asor serta sikap ngapurancang. Penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman tentang bagaimana etika Jawa mempengaruhi interaksi sosial, hubungan antarindividu, dan keselarasan sosial dalam masyarakat.

Literary works are representations of social reality which contain life values. One form of literary work is film. This research discusses the Javanese ethical values contained in the short film Tanah Kalurahan by Paniradya Kaistimewan. The aim of the research is to understad Javanese ethics through analysis of the logical structure and representation of Javanese culture based on the concept of Javanese ethics as presented by Magnis-Suseno (1984), along with how these ethics are represented through language, signs, and images. The research method used is dercriptive qualitative with an objective approach through analysis of dialogue and screen captures from film scenes. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1992) method which including data reduction, data display, and conclution drawing. This research focuses on four topics of Javanese ethics, namely: the right inner attitude, the right action in the world, the right place, and the right understanding. The results of the research found a representation of Javanese ethical values through two Javanese language adages, namely sepi ing pamrih rame ing gawe and andhap asor as well as the ngapurancang attitude. This research provides an understanding of how Javanese ethics influences social interactions, relationships between individuals, and social harmony in society.

"Variasi fonetis terjadi pada suatu bahasa dalam wilayah tertentu dan dapat menjadi pembeda dialek yang mempengaruhi bahasa tersebut. Salah satunya, variasi fonetis dapat ditemukan pada Bahasa Jawa yang digunakan di Kecamatan Ngoro Kabupaten Jombang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan variasi fonetis Bahasa Jawa yang digunakan di wilayah tersebut. Penelitian ini berlandaskan pada teori Petyt yang menyatakan variasi fonetis dapat dikatakan sebagai variasi bunyi dengan melihat kemunculan bunyi dari fonem vokal berdasarkan pendistribusian dalam suku kata. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif oleh Mulyana dengan cara mendeskripsikan data dan fakta dari suatu fenomena. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah tuturan masyarakat di dua titik pengamatan, yaitu Desa Sugihwaras dan Genukwatu. Jumlah informan pada penelitian ini sebanyak 2 orang dari setiap desa berdasarkan kriteria oleh Ayatrohaedi. Cara mendapatkan data dilakukan dengan teknik bertanya secara langsung. Data yang didapatkan berupa kata yang mewakili 246 glos. Dalam proses analisis data, penelitian ini menggunakan aplikasi Praat untuk membantu mengetahui perbedaan kualitas bunyi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan perbedaan variasi fonetis pada fonem /e/, /u/, dan /i/. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa perbedaan yang diketahui sebagai variasi fonetis dapat digunakan sebagai pembeda atau ciri dari Bahasa Jawa yang digunakan di Kecamatan Ngoro Kabupaten Jombang.

Phonetic variation occurs within a language in specific regions and can serve as a distinguishing factor among dialects that influence the language. One example of such variation is observed in the Javanese language spoken in the Ngoro Subdistrict of Jombang Regency. This study aims to describe the phonetic variation in the Javanese language used in this area. The research is grounded in Petyt's theory, which posits that phonetic variation can be considered a variation in sound by examining the occurrence of sounds from vowel phonemes based on their distribution within syllables. The research employs a qualitative methodology as described by Mulyana, which involves the detailed description of data and facts pertaining to a phenomenon. The data sources consist of the speech of residents in two observation points, namely Sugihwaras Village and Genukwatu Village. The study includes 2 informants from each village, selected based on Ayatrohaedi's criteria. Data collection was conducted using direct questioning techniques. The data obtained comprises words representing 246 glosses. For the data analysis process, this study utilizes the Praat application to assist in identifying differences in sound quality. The findings of this study indicate phonetic variations in the phonemes /e/, /u/, and /i/. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the identified differences as phonetic variations can be used as distinguishing features or characteristics of the Javanese language spoken in the Ngoro Subdistrict of Jombang Regency."
